“"The most beautiful location in all of Capri"”
Reviewed 7 October 2013

We stayed at the Hotel Luna at the beginning of October to celebrate our wedding anniversary. When you arrive at this hotel, you soon realize that it is one of the grand old hotels of Capri. You get the feeling that you would have the same experience having stayed here in the 1960's. This is a GOOD thing. I cannot imagine another hotel property in Capri with a more beautiful setting (the property is huge) and in my opinion, has the best view in all of Capri. We stayed in an oceanview room (210) overlooking the Faraglioni and it was perfection. We enjoyed a beautiful bottle of Prosecco and cookies sent by the hotel upon our arrival overlooking the sea. The rooms are quite large and very comfortable. Nightly turndown service is just perfect. The hotel is very quiet and well situated about a 5 minute walk (uphill or downhill depending on where you start) from the Piazza and funicular. The pool is beautiful and very relaxing, the perfect way to spend an afternoon. We ate lunch by the pool having read some wonderful reviews however we were not very impressed by the sub-par Caprese salad (by far the worse we had during our entire stay in Italy). The staff were lovely and helpful and the common rooms and patio of the hotel are simply beautiful, along with the gardens (wow). We asked for a recommendation for pizza and they were right on the mark--Bucco di Bepe near the piazza. It was delicious!!! Capri can take your breath away and the Hotel Luna is VERY well priced for what it has to offer. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend a visit to Capri in a heartbeat!!!

Room Tip: Definitely take a seaview room as the views CANNOT be beat!!!

I have now stayed at this hotel 3 different times. I am still amazed that this hotel charges less than other high-end properties on Capri. For the quality of the service, food, views and rooms, they really could charge much more!!

Each time I have stayed in a suite. This includes 2 separate rooms, 2 doors to the large balcony and as bonus, 2 full bathrooms. The suites we have always stayed in are at the end of the hotel furthest from the lobby.

Entering the suite, there is a full bathroom immediately to the left. To the right are 3 closets with the most hangers I have seen in a hotel room--enough to actually hang all of my clothes for a change.

The first room is a large living area with a couch, desk with chair and flat screen TV. There is a door that opens up onto a balcony. The next room has a comfortable bed, another flat screen TV and another full bath as well as a window overlooking the sea and doors that again open up onto the same large balcony that one can access from the living area. Of note, one of the bathrooms is a walk-in shower and the other has a bathtub instead.

The views from the balcony, even while lying on the bed, are of the sea and surrounding parts of the island. It truly is worth going to Capri just to see that view.

The room is very comfortable, from the large spaces, to lots of drawers and hangers, the two full bathrooms and two TVs.

There aren't many channels on the TV but I find this to be the case in all Italian hotels I have stayed in, including the top end five-star luxury hotels in Milan.

The service is excellent--very thorough housekeeping service and turndown service, for example.

The breakfast was included in our rate and was truly excellent--it was the usual buffet found at excellent European hotels but with the addition of wonderful cakes and pies.

The public spaces are also beautiful as is the walk from the entrance to the property down to the main building.

Honestly, I have always thought they undercharge compared with other fine properties on Capri. It really is an excellent value.

One word of warning, it is a seemingly endless uphill walk to the center of Capri where the plaza is and the entrance to the funicular. It is not far but since it is all uphill from the hotel to the plaza and location of many restaurants, it may not be an ideal base for some people.

Though I will say that I was extremely pleased with the arrival and departure service. We called the hotel from Naples once we knew what time our ferry left Naples. We were met right off the ferry boat by a staff member from the Hotel Luna who took our luggage and sold us the funicular tickets to get to the center of Capri.

On departure, we were told to hand over our luggage in the lobby two hours before our ferry departed, and it was waiting for us at the ferry dock right next to the ferry entrance on time. So we never had to worry about getting our luggage from the ferry up to the hotel and down again to the ferry.

This is a hotel I recommend strongly without any hesitation--the views, the service, the comfortable suite, the wonderful food, etc.

Stayed here with my wife for one night over the course of our honeymoon. The staff are lovely, made us feel very welcome right from the start. I had booked a room with a balcony looking onto the sea and the 'blue grotto'. As we were newly weds they upgraded our room to one with two balconies. The room was huge, immaculate and very airy. We had an amazing view of the famous stacks. Facing out to the sea on our left was a 14th century monastery and on our right were some Roman gardens. Everywhere we looked took our breath away.
There is a fantastic restaurant beside the hotel called Il Geranio, go here for dinner! Good value and excellent food!
Breakfast in the restaurant was the typical continental, wasn't offered anything hot like an omeltte but I think it was available. Plenty of everything and did the job.
There is a nice small gym that looks onto the sea and the pool area is lovely, also has a great view.
If I ever go back to this Capris I woud definitely stay here. It's worth spending a little extra for this place.

Room Tip: Spend a little extra to get a sea view.

Stayed at Hotel Luna for 3 nights...the service, restaurant and views are great. Breakfast was included in our tariff and as well as the buffet we had the choice of a continental breakfast served in our room or on our balcony overlooking the I Faraglioni.

The hotel is easy walking distance to restaurants and a few of the local attractions: Via Krupp, Marina Piccola, and Capri town. The hotel has a lovely pool area and gardens. We arrived by boat and were met by a representative of the hotel who portered our luggage to the hotel. We caught the funicular to the top and a short walk through the main walkway to the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the I Faraglioni ...and enjoy breakfast on your balcony .....

The joy started when the charming Pino met us at the dock to whisk away our luggage, and escort us to the Funiculare. Up and away we went to Capri, the city on the hill overlooking the beautiful sea. The walk to Hotel Luna was very easy, as it followed one cobblestone road through the sights of Capri to the gates of Hotel Luna. Passing through the gate you wander through a heavenly garden, Bougainvillea draped archways, and passed the pool and cabana area into the courtyard open to the sea. The desk manager was very welcoming, and my husband and I were astounded by the view of the Faraglioni as he pulled back the drapes, and opened the doors to our terrace overlooking the sea. Heavenly! The room is simply decorated, and the floors are tiled with an exquisitely designed pattern throughout. The Bathroom was large, again graced with the tile, and equipped with a stall shower, and a bathtub.
The included breakfast was another pleasure at Luna. The food was fresh, and delicious. The cappuccino was excellent, and of course the views of gardens or sea spectacular. The patio area near the courtyard entrance is filled with sofas for a peaceful time to read a morning paper, or enjoy the stars at night with a drink from the bar.
When it was time to leave after the 3 night stay, my husband and I were heartbroken. Even though we had another 12 days in Italy to look forward to, we knew that no destination would compare to Hotel Luna.

Room Tip: Contact the hotel before hand to discuss your needs, and desires. I am certain they will accommodat...

Capri offers spectacular glimpses of land and sea and the Hotel Luna is lucky to have a view that often leaves also us, who live in Capri, amazed; every change of light renews the beauty of the island. You know, we are very happy when our guests smile! So, I recommend, the next trip to Italy will include a longer stay here with us! Thank you for the kind words of appreciation, Pino and all the Staff greets you cordially.

Decided to visit Capri for a few nights to be able to see the island after the busy tourist spell during the day had calmed down.. Capri is gorgeous and the view from a sea front room in this hotel was just outstanding and very romantic. That being said the standard of bathroom facilities was really quite poor, the shower was a basic dribble of water at best and it took a manouver or two to get inside. In addition the air conditioning had no control panel so remained at fridge temperature as either off or on were the options.

Service was so so....bartender seemed a little annoyed at having to serve and we were never asked if we enjoyed our stay when leaving.

For the views alone it was amazing but would generally say that it is a very expensive stay otherwise, well certainly for the price we paid.

Probably the best view in all of Capri is at hotel Luna. If you are planning on staying here spend the extra $$$ and get a balcony the overlooks the ocean. I promise you won't be dissapointed. Everyone was wonderful and the genii nor hospitality here is something I will always come back for. Breakfast is included and this location is very close town for dinners, drinks, shopping etc. I can't say enough how great this hotel is.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
We can be in no other place than Capri’s Hotel Luna. “Tell me if there is another spectacle on earth which can compare with this” wrote Alexandre Dumas as he gazed at the Faraglioni rocks way back in 1816. “No, there isn’t” you instinctively want to answer, as you sit on the sweeping terrace of Hotel Luna, watching the setting sun paint the legendary sea stacks a shade of fiery red, or stroll through the gardens on a summer evening, in the silvery light of the Capri moon. Watching the sun rising over the sea, whiling away a morning lazing by the pool, relishing a delicious lunch of insalata caprese and fresh fruit, taking a spot of exercise in the panoramic fitness corner, enjoying a candlelit dinner overlooking the Faraglioni, savoring a bottle of wine with that special someone on the terrace of your room.
