This hotel is in a lovely quiet spot, overlooking the sea and cliffs the opposite side of the island to the harbour. I would say its worthy of it's five stars but lacks that certain something in service that makes it exceptional. I agree with other reviews that it did seem deserted at times both of guests and staff. I would say if your looking for a pretty, quiet hotel with great views, choose this one, but don't expected much in the way of atmosphere. The views from the breakfast dining area are the best i've experienced. The quality of the buffet was good but selection slightly limited for what I would expect for a hotel in this category. Our room with its high ceiling was spacious/airy and was very nicely finished. The balcony we had overlooked the pool and bar, with full view of the sea and cliffs. We ate at the restaurant once for lunch and thought the food was good. We choose to eat further up the road for dinner where there was a little more atmosphere.
It terms of the service...
My mother and I arrived at the port at dusk and were hoping to be met by the hotel representative from the boat to take our bags to the hotel. The hotel representative wasn't at the boat and i had to walk around the harbour with my bags twice before we decided to wait near the taxi stand and call the hotel. He found us after a 5-10minute wait and took our bags. We were told where the hotel was and had to navigate our own way there with no map and very little guidance, luckily iPad in hand we managed to find it at the end of the dimly light pathway.
When we arrived at our room we found that there was a double bed, when I had requested twin beds, so we had to wait for house keeping to come and remake the room, which to their credit was carried out swiftly.
We had to find a member of staff a couple of times for a drink at the pool bar which was a little frustrating.
I think my expectations of service are reasonable and don't expect everything to be perfect, but when you paying upwards of £400 a night you expect the service to be a little more than ordinary.
