“The best hotel in Capri, and one of the best in the world !”
Reviewed 23 June 2013

We booked to stay for my 40th Birthday, and from the moment we arrived until the sad time we had to leave EVERYTHING was perfect. It simply could not of been any better. We rented the Junior Suite, and the view from our balcony was unbelievable. A bottle of champagne and some lovely deserts awaited us on our first day. The attention to detail was incredible.

Our room was on a split level, so dressing room and lounge area downstairs, with the bedroom and bathroom upstairs. All the fittings and fixtures are of the highest quality, everything worked, it was all spotless and what you would expect from a hotel of this quality.

The only one thing worth mentioning about the Junior Suite, is that the ceiling height upstairs in the bedroom in places is only 6 foot, and being 6ft 3 i had to be careful i didn't bump my head, but that really didn't bother me, i was there for the views, luxury and atmosphere.

Sky TV with some English channels made us feel at home when watching TV late in the evening and the bathroom with LED lighting was a cool modern feature. The whole design of the rooms and style of the hotel oozes quality with a modern twist. The room had 3 air-con units in it to keep us cool (was 30 - 35 degrees outside whilst we were staying - June 17th 2013)

Nothing was ever too much trouble. I share the same birthday with my partner, and they arranged for a beautiful arrangement of flowers to be sent to the room on our special day together. We got engaged that afternoon, down at the Faraglioni rocks which the hotel over looks, so this place will always hold a special place in our hearts.

We had our birthday / engagement meal at the hotel, and to be fair it was by far the best meal we had over the entire 5 day trip. The breakfast menu and waiters who served us were all very polite and chatty and really made us feel welcome. Same applied to the hotel receptionists and even the cleaners ! Everyone has been trained to perfection to ensure your stay with them is as perfect as it can be. Their English is perfect so there is no language barrier.

I've read a couple of bad reports for this hotel on here, but all i can say is take these with a pinch of salt ! I run my own business and have 99% satisfied customers, but you'll always get something that goes wrong and things don't live up to peoples, sometimes over demanding expectations. Just read the 4 and 5 star reviews of this hotel, of which there are plenty. These give the true reflection of what this hotel is all about.

The hotel has 2 pools. 1 heated with spa jets, 1 non heated and much deeper. All the gardens and surrounding sun bathing areas / bar / walkways etc are spotless, with amazing plant life and flowers. At night lots of coloured lights really bring the place alive - see photos !

One thing worth mentioning is that the hotel is in a car free area, so from the port you can get a taxi up to the main square in Capri, but from there you have to walk to the hotel. In this area most businesses use tiny little electric golf cart vehicles to move stuff around. They will take your luggage from the main square and deliver it free of charge to the hotel, however they don't have a vehicle with seats on the back, so for people who find it difficult to walk etc, this might cause a problem, but i'm sure if you asked they could arrange something. It's about a 1km walk through the town and through Via Tragara, which just sets the scene for what is about to come.
Takes around 10 minutes to walk it, but it's beautiful and there are lots of seating area's along the way if you're mega unfit !

On departure, the hotel arranged for our boat tickets to be purchased and our luggage delivered down to the correct dock which saved us a job.

All in all, if you really want to roll the boat out and stay in the best hotel in Capri then this is it. It's not cheap, but experiences like this aren't about the money.

The best most romantic trip we've ever had !

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room over looking the Faraglioni Rocks !

The view from our room and terrace was as good as it gets....anywhere. At different times of day the light shifts and the sea takes on various hues. You can see the white rocks of capri island and , the Faraliogni piercing the sea and hear the sound of birds playing in the slipstreams. Peer down the cliff and the crystal blue Fontalina beach beckons.
This hotel gets better each year. Breakfast is marvelous!

Stayed for 3 nights last week. Beautiful hotel, STUNNING views, great location (about 10 min walk outside the main town of Capri...much quieter than staying in town and much less crowded with the daily tourists.. and much quieter than down by the port), terrific breakfast. One of the best places we've stayed...convenient to everything.

We sadly only had one night here but loved everything about it. Our bed was very comfortable with beautiful linen, stunning bathroom lighting and shower, and superb breakfast with many options we haven't been offered elsewhere. Loved every moment.

Room Tip: A reminder Amalfi coast hotels don't provide irons or kettles in rooms.

This was the second visit to this hotel, one of the best in the world! First visit was last year with our 21yr old daughter. The experience was so perfect that we returned this past summer again with our 3 other adult children and granddaughter. It sits on a secluded part of the island; that is the beauty of it. The staff are very discreetly there for your every possible need. They took care of all transfers (including the arrangement of a private car from Rome), and made the entire trip relaxing and peaceful. The meals at the hotel are perfect, especially breakfast and lunch overlooking the water and my daughters loved the spa services. All in all, one of the most wonderful 2 vacations we have ever taken and can't wait to go back again. This is not a child oriented hotel; however that was not what we were looking for.

Room Tip: It appears that all rooms have a beautiful view

This hotel is in a lovely quiet spot, overlooking the sea and cliffs the opposite side of the island to the harbour. I would say its worthy of it's five stars but lacks that certain something in service that makes it exceptional. I agree with other reviews that it did seem deserted at times both of guests and staff. I would say if your looking for a pretty, quiet hotel with great views, choose this one, but don't expected much in the way of atmosphere. The views from the breakfast dining area are the best i've experienced. The quality of the buffet was good but selection slightly limited for what I would expect for a hotel in this category. Our room with its high ceiling was spacious/airy and was very nicely finished. The balcony we had overlooked the pool and bar, with full view of the sea and cliffs. We ate at the restaurant once for lunch and thought the food was good. We choose to eat further up the road for dinner where there was a little more atmosphere.

It terms of the service...
My mother and I arrived at the port at dusk and were hoping to be met by the hotel representative from the boat to take our bags to the hotel. The hotel representative wasn't at the boat and i had to walk around the harbour with my bags twice before we decided to wait near the taxi stand and call the hotel. He found us after a 5-10minute wait and took our bags. We were told where the hotel was and had to navigate our own way there with no map and very little guidance, luckily iPad in hand we managed to find it at the end of the dimly light pathway.
When we arrived at our room we found that there was a double bed, when I had requested twin beds, so we had to wait for house keeping to come and remake the room, which to their credit was carried out swiftly.
We had to find a member of staff a couple of times for a drink at the pool bar which was a little frustrating.
I think my expectations of service are reasonable and don't expect everything to be perfect, but when you paying upwards of £400 a night you expect the service to be a little more than ordinary.

Although it is 5 months since our stay, our memories of our stay at this hotel are still fresh and we have already booked a return trip to Capri for May 2013 and plan to stay again. Even before arriving the hotel was helpful and informative by email in relation to luggage and recommendations for restaurants. We were lucky to be upgraded to a suite as it was our wedding anniversary which meant we had a fabulous view and a private sunbathing area. Whilst the decor is somewhat eclectic this added to the overall interest / appeal for me. The hotel is tucked away but only a 10 minute walk from the hub hub which we enjoyed as the location gave uninterrupted sea views and it was so peaceful. Breakfast was excellent and we didn't miss the ability to order hot food as commented on in other reviews, given the array of choice. We didn't eat at the hotel in an evening as it was too quiet so our restaurant highlights were Il Geranio (recommended by the hotel) and Edode where we dined twice as the food, service and ambience were outstanding.

Room Tip: Don't miss the sea view, it's worth it!
