The hotel is a lovely 4 star hotel, within a short walk from everything in Capri.
Nice terrace and pool area, and the lunch area has a great view and a decent lunch at reasonable prices (for Capri).

The hotel has a policy of not allowing children under 14 in the pool after 1 pm. In all fairness, this should have been made clear to us when we made the reservation, including a 7 year old boy. This is also not clear from the hotel website. We complained, and the rule was changed while we were there.

It is a bit pricy, but then again - this is Capri.

Other than that - a nice hotel, with a friendly staff - including the room maids - and is clearly under excellent management.

Recommended!

I stayed here with two girlfriends this summer, it was my fourth trip to Capri but the first time I had stayed at the Mamela.

I really can't say enough good things about this hotel, the location is excellent, 5 minutes walk from Via Camarelle with all the main shops, resturants, bars...

The staff were all lovely, the hotel does not serve dinner but the lunch was divine, served in the resturant on a terrace (book a table at the edge to make the most of the view), the swimming pool is a great size, always an attendent present, always enough sunbeds.

The breakfast included in the price of the room is coffee, fruit & crossaints, plus eggs dishes at an extra charge.

The only downside (and not the hotels fault) was a few loud Americans whose voices could be heard constantly at breakfast, lunch, the pool... but perhaps that is just due to the time we visited. But in summary, lovely hotel, and I shall return!

Hotel Mamela was the most pleasant stay we had while traveling in Europe. The staff was great (especially Nadine at the front desk) and went above and beyond to help us with converters, directions, restaurant reservations, boat tickets and luggage. We had only wonderful things to say and no complaints. The room was spacious and VERY clean, the complimentary breakfast was great, the pool is gorgeous and the hotel is in a great location. I would, without a doubt, stay there again.

We stayed at this hotel the first week of Sept. for our honeymoon. The hotel room was beautiful and the view from the balcony is great. The staff was very helpful and friendly, especially the bartenders. One night they were closing the bar, but opened up again when we showed up for one last drink.

Our shower was clogged the first night, but after we told the front desk they had it fixed right away, and we had no other problems.

The breakfast isnt like America, just pasteries, friut, and coffee, but that is what is normal in Italy. You can buy omelets and other breakfast if you wanted. The coffee was great, and so was the wine and limonchello! The pool was very clean and we always had a chair to sit in.

Overall we had a great time at this hotel and would definitly come back again.

I am surprised by the previous review as I also stayed at the Hotel Mamela, Capri, in July 2008 and experienced none of the negatives that the reviewer did.
On arrival several members of staff were extremely diligent and helpful in ensuring that our bags made it from the port directly to our room. The room was spacious and immaculately clean and was thoroughly cleaned every day. The chambermaids were helpful, friendly and extremely obliging (as were all the staff).
We had no issues with the plumbing, the pillows did not smell and the elevator was not damp.
The pool area was lovely and there was a very helpful attendent on hand.
The reception staff recommended the most wonderful restuarant(Villa Verde) and helped us in organising hiring a boat. All of our requests were dealt with courteously and with a friendly manner. We did purchase our boat tickets from the hotel and, to be honest, we didn't even notice the price. But in purchasing the tickets from the hotel it means that your luggage is taken care of so I would highly recommend.
We would definitely return to Mamela- Lovely hotel, friendly staff and fantastic location.

Got misguided by the few reviews that were posted about this hotel. Must advise fellow travellers to keep away from this property. Usually when one books a four star hotel in which the rate for a double room is Euro 310 there is a mental comfort that one will not be disappointed. This property gets you shocked. Once you enter the lobby you feel good. The first impression is "hey everything looks fine", but alas thats the beginning of the end.

Be prepared to take your luggage to the room or the other alternative is to keep waiting expecting the luggage to be got to your room.
The elevators smell of damp

The beds are made up in the room when you check-in but the toilets are dirty. There was left over soap & shampoo from the previous guest. The ash tray was dirty.

The floor of the room was dirty (this is an understatement). had to tip the chamber maids to have the room cleaned & even complained at the reception.

inspite of the cleaning service the following day the floor still remains dirty.

The pillows stink & one has to be prepared to sleep without them. Had to leave the pillows out in the sun the whole day but still did not help.

The toilets are full of moss & algae. The drainage system is totally blocked in the shower area as well as in the sink. The wifi in the room does not work, only in the lobby.

The icing on the cake, the reception tends to misguide & they receptionists contradict each other. Its written in bold that the hotel can arrange purchase of boat tickets WITHOUT COMMISSION. One gets lured by it to avoid long lines but after you have booked yourself, there is a commission. You have a choice either to fight & spoil your holiday or simply ignore it.

The only decent thing about the hotel is the breakfast & the courteousness of the breakfast staff.

this is not my first trip to capri & have stayed in other hotels of lower star rating & the services were much better (fantastic compared to this one)

would advise friends to look before they leap.

To start off, if you can get a full transfer from the dock to the Hotel it's a good idea. Not just for this hotel but almost any hotel in the town of Capri, that way you don't have to deal with the bus.
Hotel Mamela is a short 5 minute walk from the heart of everything in Capri. The views are spectacular. The room we stayed in was actually very large. The front desk woman named Nadia helped us with so many things. She spoke perfect English and helped us plan out a few evenings and a day trip. The hotel itself was very very clean. The continental breakfast was perfect every morning. When we go back to Capri, we are definitely staying at the Hotel Mamela again. Worth every penny.
