“First experience of Naples”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2013

We stayed on a continental B&B basis. The hotel is situated down a narrow street in the middle of the historic centre of Naples. The entrance is scruffy and the lift barely big enough for a couple and their luggage. However, the welcome at reception is exceptional. Our room was comfortable, clean, large and adequately furnished with ensuite facilities that included a spa bath. There was no tea/coffee making facilities. The breakfast, although adequate was hardly exciting. All the staff were very polite and helpful especially Federica (excellent understanding of English), Elena and Irene. We would certainly return to this hotel again.

We stayed in the hotel in March 2013. This hotel is for people who like to feel authenticity of places. It is authentically beautiful. Rooms, bathrooms are well appointed. The breakfast room is outstanding. I also want to comment on the exceptional hospitality of staff. We came by car and while we were unloading, the young man at the front desk called the police asking them not to fine us (there are police cameras in the yard). All of our requests and questions were met with charm and readiness to help. You feel like these are your friends helping you. We left our laundry behind and the lady named Irina helped us to get it back. We have exchanged numerous emails and she was patient, polite and ready to help us in the way convenient for us. We are truly impressed. Thank you!

All of the reviews raving about how great this hotel is are right. It is rare that I stay in a hotel where I actually feel comfortable, peaceful, at home, etc from the get go, and this is one of the them. The building just has a very grand, good feeling. My room was gorgeous in an understated way, with high ceiling and long curtains and silk bedcover and view into a lovely little street. I felt like I was staying in my own room at a good friend's house. The breakfast room is lovely and calm as well.

The staff at reception constitutes the hotel's finest quality. They recommended suitable places to eat (we had special dietary requirements, plus we wished to dine at an unfashionably early hour), they offered to make reservations, they helped us control the air conditioning and the TV set, they called a fixed price taxi for us (I particularly commend this service - such a good idea!) and in general made us feel really welcome. We liked the room and the hotel central location as well. The only drawback (and the reason why we don't give this hotel 5 stars) was the breakfast buffet - abundant but unispired. In all, we would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely return.

When asking for a reconfirmation by e-mail 3 weeks before travel in May 2013, the reservation staff at this 4-star hotel acted absolutely strangely.
First they called me to tell that they unfortunately haven´t got any reservation, which could be caused by internet troubles they had in December 2012. They offered to find us another accommodation as Naples would be rather booked in May. I gladly agreed and was reliefed. So far so good.
But then I wondered how they can call my personal mobile phone because when asking for the reconfirmation I send the mail from my office and my private number was not given to them.
So I called them back and asked for explanations for this mistery.
The lady said, that they had received our reservation the very morning and excused for not having red her e-mails for a couple of days. I answered that she must have forgotten to read her mails for many month, as our reservation was made already in October.
Felt like talking to little kids, who are getting deeper in troubles the more they say. We cancelled therefore our reservation and stayed instead at Bonapace B&B, which we highly can recommend. 4 star professional service for a budget price.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
We are glad to give you the warmest welcome as our guests into Palazzo Sisto Riario Sforza. Here, in the heart of Naples old town within inches of Santa Chiara Church with its Cloister, the Veiled Christ and Via San Gregorio Armeno was born, in 2008, our Hotel. The Decumani Hotel de Charme was originally built during the 17th century and belonged to Sisto Riario Sforza, the last Archbishop of Naples in the Bourbon Kingdom of the Two Sicilies of which Naples was the capital. In 2008 we embarked on a major refurbishment programme for the second floor, where the Hotel is placed. The hotel has now been fully restored and equipping with all the modern conveniences our guests expect. A wide lounge, decorated with golden stuccoes and mirrors, testifies the illustrious past of this residence. All of our 22 bedrooms are fully air-conditioned and feature the following: soundproof windows, flat screen Television with international channels, safe, minibar, direct dial telephone and hairdryer. The Decumani Hotel de Charme is located in the Decumani, in the heart of the old town originally a Greek "polis" and then a Roman "urbs", an area wich represents with its squares, streets and alleys, a unique historical, cultural and artistic heritage, as it is testified by the acknowledgment of Unesco, which in 1995 declared the historic centre of Naples " the biggest open-air museum in the world". ... more   less
