“Amazing authentic hotel with outstanding staff”
Reviewed 19 May 2014 via mobile

We went on a long weekend here and the hotel is a real gem. Charming and elegant, it allows you to experience a bit of the real Naples rather than the blandness of a chain hotel. The breakfast room is beautiful.

Close to lots of restaurants, cafés and main areas, it's in a great location. We walked nearly everywhere.

The staff were very friendly and gave us lots of wonderful recommendations. The standard of service was surpassed on our last day however when we realised we'd made an error and failed to book an additional night so potentially had nowhere to stay on our last evening in Naples! The hotel had tried to contact us earlier on but we were out all day at Pompeii and didn't hear the calls! So when we turned up later that evening we were more than a little concerned when the hotel updated us on our booking error. However the staff had packed up all of our things for us securely and had booked us a room down at their other hotel for the night. They got us a cab and sorted everything out and were so friendly and professional the whole time - they turned what could've been a very stressful and upsetting situation into an easy, positive experience - thank you!

This is a hotel you find going round the back of a university building, the street looks very poor with peeling walls and graffiti. You enter a courtyard and this too looks forbidding. It is only after you climb the stairs and enter the hotel that you realise what a nice place it is
The rooms are of faded splendour especially the breakfast room a large pink room with piano and marble fittings
The room we had was an unusual shape with beds upstairs and a small living room area below but it was very comfortable
The breakfasts were good though not remarkable - all the usual - rolls, fruit, yogurt, juices , coffee, cheeses; cold cuts of meat
The staff were magnificent the people at the front desk could not have been more helpful fixing restaurant bookings, arranging transport etc.
The hotel is really nicely situated lots and lots of great restaurants nearby. A short walk to the museum and easy access to public transport to the main railway station
I really enjoyed our stay here

Room Tip: pay a bit more for the larger rooms they are more fun

As many others have stated, do not be put off by the entrance to the hotel! Once in reception the hotel is really nice, but the best part is how helpful the staff are. They gave us some excellent recommendations of local places to eat, great walks and the best sites in the historical district.

The hotel is two minutes walk from the main historical area and about 20mins from the sea. You can walk to the Central Station for trains to Pompeii and Sorrento.

The hotel is very good value for a city centre and the breakfast spread is very good. Would definitely stay here again.

In the middle of the narrow streets of old, dirty Napoli this hotel does not look much from the outside, but after taking the antique lift to the second floor you find a very nice and renovated hotel floor with kind and helpful staff and pleasant, quite rooms - not least the palace like breakfast room is quite impressive. Access by car is difficult, but the staff is helpful in ensuring private parking not far from the hotel.

Yes, the bedrooms could have been more charming and beautiful and light-filled and had more places to sit, but the hotel is outstanding first of all in terms of its helpful and knowledgable and sweet staff. The lobby and breakfast room are exquisite, and the entire hotel offers a rare opportunity to live in history. An outdoor terrace is under construction and should add immeasurably to the appeal of the hotel. Breakfasts were excellent, accompanied by soft classical Neapolitan music. The location was perfect - quiet in the hotel, but teeming with life and possibility beyond its walls. We hope to return again and again.

We felt like we were in the middle of an old gothic vampire movie when we walked up the stairs. It's awesomely flawed and exactly what you should expect in the heart of this gritty passionate neighbourhood. Somehow it's actually quiet even though it's only minutes from bustling traffic and nightlife. Hotel room was very cool, breakfast room and breakfast were fantastic, staff was very helpful.

Maybe my expectations were too high because of the ranking on TA, but there were too many mistakes and flaws during our stay.

First of all, this former palace needs serious refurbishment (and a decent entrance !) although lobby and corridors are gorgeous. Rooms are quite big, but not very cosy, maybe because of poor and outdated lighting. We did not have a double bed as advertised, but two mattresses next to each other instead. The bathroom was spacious and nice, however the camping-style low-quality toilet paper is an absolute shame for such a hotel. Breakfast was OK, but do come early, as plates were not refilled, even one hour before the end of service... Staff was very nice and helpful.

Naples is not a very expensive city, so there is nothing that can justify such a high price.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
We are glad to give you the warmest welcome as our guests into Palazzo Sisto Riario Sforza. Here, in the heart of Naples old town within inches of Santa Chiara Church with its Cloister, the Veiled Christ and Via San Gregorio Armeno was born, in 2008, our Hotel. The Decumani Hotel de Charme was originally built during the 17th century and belonged to Sisto Riario Sforza, the last Archbishop of Naples in the Bourbon Kingdom of the Two Sicilies of which Naples was the capital. In 2008 we embarked on a major refurbishment programme for the second floor, where the Hotel is placed. The hotel has now been fully restored and equipping with all the modern conveniences our guests expect. A wide lounge, decorated with golden stuccoes and mirrors, testifies the illustrious past of this residence. All of our 22 bedrooms are fully air-conditioned and feature the following: soundproof windows, flat screen Television with international channels, safe, minibar, direct dial telephone and hairdryer. The Decumani Hotel de Charme is located in the Decumani, in the heart of the old town originally a Greek "polis" and then a Roman "urbs", an area wich represents with its squares, streets and alleys, a unique historical, cultural and artistic heritage, as it is testified by the acknowledgment of Unesco, which in 1995 declared the historic centre of Naples " the biggest open-air museum in the world". ... more   less
