Wonderful gem in the heart of Naples. Staff made everything possiblle to make us feel at home. Wonderful in every way. Thank you very much to Federica and all the staff. Near all the places to visit, including double deck bus tours leaving from Piazza del plebiscito and the veiled Christ .

We had pretty high expectations of this hotel after reading all the reviews on TripAdvisor. Perhaps our expectations were a bit too high....

The hotel is lovely, it has some absolutely magnificient features (the dining hall!), but I guess we were just unlucky with our room. It was really dark, and in combination with the antique furniture it had a bit of depressing feel to it. Via a tiny 'hall' we had access to a balcony, but no light was coming into the room. Judging by the pictures on TripAdvisor, other rooms clearly don't have this issue.

Compliments to the person that checked us in, he was very friendly and helpful. Also the location is really convenient, right in the middle of town - yet in a quieter street. Breakfast was exactly to our taste (fruit juices, fruit salad, perfectly cooked eggs, tasty bread).

We certainly had a nice stay, but compared to other hotels we stayed in (in Naples and surrounding area - in a similar price range) this was our least favourite one.

When the taxi driver dropped us in the courtyard of the building where the Decumani Hotel de Charme is located (after backing up the narrow street at high speed!) we saw the sign pointing to the elevator and were alarmed -- could the Trip Advisor reviews have steered us to the wrong location? We persevered and took the elevator to the 2nd floor, stepping out of it into a world of elegance. As it was explained to us, building codes prohibited the hotel owner from making improvements to the common area downstairs. It was just the first of many astonishing contradictions and inconsistencies about Naples that, by the end of our stay, we found charming and tolerable.
The hotel itself is a jewel and the magnificent Baroque Breakfast Room a highlight, especially one evening when a visitor from Texas offered an impromptu concert on the piano and his music echoed throughout the hotel.
Particularly impressive and knowledgeable were the staff at the front desk, including recommendations on restaurants (Pulcinella Bistro - where we ate 3 times thanks to Elena) and insights about Naples and its distinction from other parts of Italy (Roberto).
The room was spacious, the bathroom modern and roomy, the furniture antique but sturdy and the bed one of the most comfortable we have ever encountered at a hotel! Our only quibble is with breakfast -- heavy on cream-filled pastries and too light on protein needed for a day of sightseeing. We suggest offering hard-boiled eggs that could be cooked in advance. Turning down the volume a bit on music at breakfast time would be helpful too.
Overall, we highly recommend this hotel and we hope to return there one day.

The hotel is situated on the 2nd floor of a historic building, and you get to it via a rather historic lift. However, once you get there it indeed has 'Charm' and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Having said that we were not particularly happy with our room which was near reception (good in some ways, but less good in others). Breakfast was good. Although it is a narrow, slightly dark street, this is typical of the Naples Historic area, and the hotel is well located near the fabulous Santa Chiara complex, Gesu Nuovo and other historic sights like the Cappella Sansevero with the amazing 'Veiled Christ' sculpture. You can even walk to many sights like the Archaeological Museum and the Castel Nuovo. No restaurant but the nearby 'Pulcinella' is very good.

The hotel is tucked away down a narrow street, in what initially feels a less than welcoming area of town. However, don't be put off by first impressions. The hotel itself is beautiful and the staff are incredibly warm and welcoming, and couldn't have been more helpful.

I travelled with a friend, and our twin room was a comfortable size, with a small balcony, shared with the neighbouring room, and a gorgeous bathroom. An extra pillow would have been nice, but I'm sure this would have been provided had we actually asked! The breakfast room is stunning, and there is a good selection of cereals, meats, fruit and yoghurt, although my sweet tooth got the better of me every day and I found the pastries and doughnuts impossible to resist!

First impressions aside, when leaving the hotel to explore, I actually found that I didn't feel at all unsafe at any time, and the hotel is perfectly located for exploring the old parts of the city. The narrow cobbled streets of the Decumani are fascinating and we spent hours just wandering around seeing what we stumbled across.

Naples itself is a beautiful city, and for the first time I feel I have experienced the real Italy. The people were friendly, and my friend and I received more than one offer of assistance whilst exploring. Don't let the graffiti and litter put you off!

Make sure the taxi knows the location as the hotel is located in the historic district where drop-offs are restricted -16 euro from the airport.
You enter via a rickety lift or stairs , but its a real gem when you are inside - staff are very helpful and go the extra mile breakfast is continental and fine . The real advantage staying here is that you are in the middle of the action and with a little research can walk everywhere. Trains from Circumvesuvius are cheap and plentiful to Herculeaum and Pompeii . Mini bar is fairly priced all in all a great stay , but bring your walking boots !!

We went on a long weekend here and the hotel is a real gem. Charming and elegant, it allows you to experience a bit of the real Naples rather than the blandness of a chain hotel. The breakfast room is beautiful.

Close to lots of restaurants, cafés and main areas, it's in a great location. We walked nearly everywhere.

The staff were very friendly and gave us lots of wonderful recommendations. The standard of service was surpassed on our last day however when we realised we'd made an error and failed to book an additional night so potentially had nowhere to stay on our last evening in Naples! The hotel had tried to contact us earlier on but we were out all day at Pompeii and didn't hear the calls! So when we turned up later that evening we were more than a little concerned when the hotel updated us on our booking error. However the staff had packed up all of our things for us securely and had booked us a room down at their other hotel for the night. They got us a cab and sorted everything out and were so friendly and professional the whole time - they turned what could've been a very stressful and upsetting situation into an easy, positive experience - thank you!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
We are glad to give you the warmest welcome as our guests into Palazzo Sisto Riario Sforza. Here, in the heart of Naples old town within inches of Santa Chiara Church with its Cloister, the Veiled Christ and Via San Gregorio Armeno was born, in 2008, our Hotel. The Decumani Hotel de Charme was originally built during the 17th century and belonged to Sisto Riario Sforza, the last Archbishop of Naples in the Bourbon Kingdom of the Two Sicilies of which Naples was the capital. In 2008 we embarked on a major refurbishment programme for the second floor, where the Hotel is placed. The hotel has now been fully restored and equipping with all the modern conveniences our guests expect. A wide lounge, decorated with golden stuccoes and mirrors, testifies the illustrious past of this residence. All of our 22 bedrooms are fully air-conditioned and feature the following: soundproof windows, flat screen Television with international channels, safe, minibar, direct dial telephone and hairdryer. The Decumani Hotel de Charme is located in the Decumani, in the heart of the old town originally a Greek "polis" and then a Roman "urbs", an area wich represents with its squares, streets and alleys, a unique historical, cultural and artistic heritage, as it is testified by the acknowledgment of Unesco, which in 1995 declared the historic centre of Naples " the biggest open-air museum in the world". ... more   less
