“Ideal location for historic/old Naples - very friendly staff...”
Reviewed 18 October 2012 via mobile

This is a great location for exploring the old historic part of the city.

The rooms are very quiet and clean and the staff extremely friendly and helpful.

Would definitely stay here again if we come back to Naples...

We stayed at this hotel the first few nights after landing in Italy and really needed sleep to get over our jet lag. Our room was one of the quietest we've ever had, in any city anywhere. Even though it was next to the elevator, we heard nothing when our door was closed. We also were able to make the room completely dark, and the bed was very comfortable.

The location of this hotel is very convenient walking distance to many tourist attractions of Spaccanapoli and the many delicious pizza restaurants on Tribunali. We also were able to walk to the metro for the archeological museum, and the funicular to see the Vomero district, as well as a 15 minute walk to the train station to head toward Pompeii and the other attractions around Vesuvius. We would absolutely stay here again.

Some reviewers have commented that this is not a "nice" area of Naples. However, we saw families, children, and single women walking in this area after dark and never encountered any problems.

This hotel does not have a restaurant, so other than breakfast, you must go out to eat.

Naples can overwhelm one with its congested street life and abundance of things to do and see, so it was important to us to have a hotel close to the historic center, but still very clean, quiet and well run. Palazzo Decumani is a complete modern renovation of an historic building. The decor is very pale, white, and modern -- a chic look that European's seem to favor these days. Huge, deluxe rooms and bathrooms, with excellent linens on comfortable beds. Every modern convenience. (Thank you for the free Wi-FI.) A lovely traditional breakfast buffet is part of the cost of the room, It includes local specialities that tempted us to eat rather too much. Also a complementary welcome drink and appetizers was a very nice touch -- and an opportunity to chat with other guests. The staff was lean, so you won't get the type of service that you get at a Grand Hotel -- but they were enough people to take care of all our needs. (There is no bellman or doorman, for instance, so we rolled our own bags to the elevator. That's OK with me.) The front desk staff was very helpful in terms of advice on taxi rates, local restaurants, ferries to the islands and all else. A word of caution: the area around the hotel (and Naples, in general) covered with grafitti. You get used to it in a day and it doesn't mean that that the area is unsafe -- that's just Naples and that should be one of the very interesting things that drew you to the city. We were there five nights and wished we could have spent more time there, because you can never dig to the bottom of all of the fascinating things to see in Naples.

Room Tip: We faced the front, but there was no street noise, since the hotel is well insulated and has air con...

Naples isn't the most beautiful of cities, but this little hotel is an oasis. Our room was reasonably sized with a lovely, modern bathroom that included nice toiletries. The WiFi was included in the price, and the breakfast service and selection were quite pleasant. Lots of little touches like loaner umbrellas inside the front door, welcome drinks, a guest computer with printer in the lobby, and an email detailing how to find the hotel and how much to pay the taxi driver, made us feel welcome and appreciated as guests. Everything was clean and well maintained...particularly the air conditioning, which was much appreciated as a respite from the heat and humidity. I would definitely stay there again, and like another reviewer recommended, Ugo at sorrentocars.com provides an excellent service should you want to tour the Amalfi Coast via a private car hire.

This is a beautiful hotel hidden away from one of Naples main streets. The old quarter of Naples is a fantastic place to be and this is one of the best places to stay. We did not have a reservation but luckily we could be accommodated, and lucky we were. Reception and bar staff are very helpful and welcoming and attentive.

The room we had was superb despite the tv not working, but who needs a tv when you have Naples to explore. For the 4 stars it has it is certainly more luxurious than that. I can't recommend this hotel more, if you are in the area stay you won't regret it!

Located in the heart of the Centro Storico of Napoli, this former palace has been brought into the 21st century in a most attractive and comfortable way.
While many visitors might be inclined to pick a hotel along the sea, I cannot imagine not staying in the old historic district. After five trips to Naples over several years I now prefer being in the heart of 16th and 17th century Naples. Its narrow, cobble- stoned streets and its two decumani (ancient streets} dating back to Roman times, make the Centro Storico an exciting area. The hotel is an oasis of comfort in the heart of this ancient setting.
Our room was perhaps the largest we have stayed in, on this, our third trip to Italy in less than three years. Bleached hardwood floors and copious built-in shelves and closets plus a huge chest of drawers provided more hanging and storage space than most master suites. The bathroom was spacious, tiled, and up-to-date.
Breakfast is nice and there are complimentary welcoming drinks.
Palazzo Decumani will be my home away from home in Naples from now on.

The expression "Let Naples be Naples" was never so clear as I wended my way to the hotel along a street with graffiti-covered buildings. The hotel, however, is clean and neat It would be helpful if the hotel would install a ramp for luggage as there are 3 sets of stairs to reach the check-in desk and while short, the guest is still required to lug his/her suitcase up them.

Ursula at the front desk was welcoming and pleasant, though she waited to offer to help me with my suitcase after watching me drag it up the first 2 sets of stairs. When my TV didn't work, she came to my room immediately to adjust the satellite which wasn't in sync with the television. She patiently answered my questions about the neighborhood, museums and shopping areas. Terrific. The room, the closet and bathroom were both large and there's an incredible amount of drawer space. The shower had plenty of pressure and hot water, and the terry robe was heavenly.

The welcoming drink at the bar was lovely. The young barman was gracious and attentive. In addition to the complementary drink, he laid out a spread of crackers and cheese, and assorted snacks that easily comprised dinner.

On the other end, when I checked out the woman didn't say a word as she dragged herself from the computer to complete the tasks. She processed the paperwork, pointed where to sign on the credit card slip and handed me the receipts without a thank you, or "how was your visit?" and certainly not a smile.

It's a short walk from Termini and historic district. Be sure to check out the good assortment of small food and shops at the end of the street to the left as you leave the hotel. They're run by Neopolitans who are friendly and patient with tourists who speak bad Italian.

The Margarita pizza from the restaurant across the alley from the hotel is delicious and only 3 Euros (it's closed on Sunday). I was drawn to it because there was a crowd of locals waiting at the take-out window and if they're eating there, so am I.
