“Great hotel in an excellent location”
Reviewed 11 February 2014

My wife and I spend 2 nights here at the end of Jan and found this hotel to be almost faultless, both the large room and service were excellent, the breakfast was also the best we had in our week in Italy. The highlight were the picky bits we were given with our free welcome drink, the waiter not only brought the standard peanuts, crisps, olives but then added parmesan cheese drizzled with honey and a hot cheese and ham ravioli I'm sure he would have kept the food coming if we had not asked him to stop as he was so keen to please us, which is the feeling all of the staff gave, nothing would have been too much trouble.

Room Tip: as this hotel is on a small back street I don't it really matter

We only stayed one night after arriving by plane into Naples and on our way to the Amalfi Coast. The hotel was very comfortable - we had a very spacious double room with an en-suite bathroom. The staff were very friendly and helpful - we overslept but they managed to rustle up a late breakfast for us. The location is great - very central if you want to explore the old city and a short taxi drive down to the harbour (we went by ferry to Sorrento, which is a very pleasant way to go, but it is also easy and cheap by train).

We stayed there for three nights in early January, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Took a cab from the airport, 25 euros. The we had a standard room which was nice, although no view, but the bathroom was very nice with a large shower.

The two best things about the hotel are the location and the breakfasts. Although the hotel sits in a area that is going through renewal, it is only one block from the old town with many restaurants and shops. The breakfasts were the best we had in Italy, with hot foods, quiche, cold cuts & cheeses, and pastries.

Would definitely stay there again

This hotel makes a wonderful base from which to visit ruins. With comfortable rooms, incredible breakfasts and helpful, delightful staff ready to point you in the right direction, I can' t think of anything lacking in this lovely hotel. And being centrally located, it's ideal for exploring Naples on foot. While a taxi helps if arriving from the train station, it's not necessary if you are traveling light or relatively young (think under 60).

The Palazzo Decumani hotel is outstanding. The neighbourhood might not be the cleanest, the prettiest or the quietest in Naples but it is the most picturesque and it puts most landmarks at walking distance, and safety is not an issue (or at least was not during the two weeks we spent there), even at night (we were usually back around 11 pm). The hotel itself is very well insulated and very clean.

We were in room 404, a Deluxe Double (one notch below the suite) corner unit with a beautiful view on the Vesuvius – Naples’ barometer ! The room was very well appointed. Very quiet in spite of being located next to the elevator. High ceilings and 30 square meters, enough to feel at home during a rather long stay. Plenty of closet and drawer space. Not many hangers though, but a total of 6 drawers in closets/derssers, so huge that they looked like twice as many, plus 2 night-stands with double drawers ! Nice bedding and confortable mattress. The (large) bathroom had almost everything you could ask for including kleenex (but no facecloths and no clothes-line). The heating is partly monitored from the reception, so make sure you ask for and get the proper temperature on the first night (We had to ask for extra duvets).

Breakfast is included. It’s much more than the continental fare: scrambled eggs, warm ham and cheese omelets in puff pastry (cooked on the premises), sausages, delicious warm apple turnovers, etc, etc... No restaurant at the hotel but plenty of small places nearby, the kind that caters to university students: hearty food, nothing fancy. If you’re ready for a ten minutes walk and if you love fish, don’t miss Il Garum. Ask the reception, they will call and make a reservation for you.

The staff is adorable, no other word to describe them. They will go out of their way to help you. Barbara even gave us some tickets (left by other guests) for the Circumvesuviana train to Pompeii. The other persons at the reception are very nice too. As for the gentleman at the bar, Salvatore, he is – well – a true gentleman, who will serve you the most exquisite wine cocktails (try the “Puccini” at 10 euros) accompanied by tasty tapas-like appetizers that he improvises every day. All those people, obviously, really love what they do.

When reviewing a hotel, we usually mention a few of those that we really enjoyed elsewhere, just to give an idea of our tastes and preferences (price included). The Palazzo Decumani would be, for us, in the same league as the Lennox in Boston, the Burnham in Chicago, the Amadeus in Seville, the Capo d’Africa in Rome, the Duca di Venezia in Venice, the Residence Appia in Prague.

Room Tip: Room 404 is large (30 square meters). It is a corner unit with a view on the Vesuvius.

A lovely hotel , well designed and comfortable ! Staff superfrendly and efficient . Deluxe room very specious with pale wood flooring and great wardrobe space . Breakfast was really good with selection pc sweet and savoury. Only problem if you come by car the hotel is in a ZTL zone and you cannot access the center until after 18.00 . We parked at il Porto parking and walked to the hotel , only 10 minutes

This hotel was not inexpensive but it was overall a nice place to stay. It was very clean, bright and new feeling. Each morning they offer a breakfast (included with the room) which was fairly good, but nothing special. The coffee was not up to Italian standards and often times the kitchen staff could not keep up with refilling things that had run out.
We spent one evening in the hotel bar, which was pleasant. It was quiet, with good music playing and Salvatore (the bar man) was very friendly and talkative. They also provide some great snacks when you order a drink. The front desk staff was not so friendly or helpful, except for Barbara- whom was always smiling and willing to help in whatever way. There is also wireless included with your room, which was not too strong, so don't expect to use it much. I would probably not return here, but it was a nice place to stay overall.
