“Ideally located & comfortable hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 April 2014

Our stay at Palazzo Decumani was most pleasant. We took the bus from the airport to Centrale train/Stazione and walked to the hotel. From there it was a walk to the hotel. Graffiti is prevalent on many buildings so we weren’t sure what to expect upon arrival to the hotel. However, we were pleasantly surprised to see a classy classic façade. As you enter, you face a beautiful chandelier hanging in the center of the winding circular stair. No worries, there is also an elevator. Check-in was very quick. All of the staff is personable and helpful, especially Barbara and Ornella at the front desk and Bartender Salvatore in the lobby bar – a good place to enjoy apperitivo before dinner or drinks afterwards. Even though the lobby and public areas are contemporary, the guestrooms have Italian/European charm. Everything is updated and clean, with wonderful bathrobes and slippers to make one feel at home. The hotel is beautifully situated in a quiet/safe area in the historic area and very convenient to many of Naples’ key sights and delicious restaurants. Our balcony faced a residential side street which gave us a good idea of daily life in Naples. We also found the local people to be friendly and eager to engage in conversation if approached. While locals will even warn (by gesturing their lower eyelid) for you to be careful of your possessions, we had no problem. Good advice still holds true that one should be aware of their surroundings when travelling. Our only negative comment would be breakfast in the dining room which was from 7:30 – 10:30 AM.
The dining room staff was equally friendly, but some items were not replenished on a timely basis after 9:20am when we got sat down. The 1 quiche was delicious but was not replenished once it was eaten . Given that it was all gone by 9 AM and the fact that we were told it is so easy to make, it was surprising that they only had one to accommodate more than a few guests. The bottom line regarding this hotel is - if we return to Naples, we would definitely want to stay at Palazzo Decumani!

We lucked out with this find. It seems to have been recently renovated, I'm sure other reviews have mentioned it, and the decor is wonderful! The service from the staff was top notch and the breakfast was delicious. The archeological museum is a nice 15 minute walk away and you need only stroll a couple of yards and you are right on Via S. Biagio dei Librai aka Spaccanapoli. The room was clean and the bathroom well appointed. The hotel is also blessed with a location off of the busier streets so you aren't deafend by the traffic noise in a city as large as Naples. I will return and would absolutely recommend the Palazzo Decumani!

We found this hotel after recommendations on Trip advisor. We were not disappointed by the hotel - very friendly helpful staff, comfy bed, well appointed bathroom, delicious bar snacks
Sadly its vicinity in Naples didn't inspire us. The graffiti and grime of the city was bad enough let alone the rotting rubbish on street and then had to cope with the crazy taxi drivers!!

Room Tip: upgrade to a superior room to get a bath

When looking to travel to Naples I was amazed that i could find a hotel this nice for the price. The hotel was in a great location and there were many good areas to eat in just a short walk. Also if you are interested in visiting Pompeii, it was only a short distance to the train that will take you right to the ruins. Unfortunately it rained for the majority of the time we visited Naples, but the hotel was so nice and comfortable that it was a nice refuge from the rain.

We only had one night to spend in Naples after our two-week Italian trip, but we certainly ended it on a high note. The location near the historic center of town is ideal. We were able to walk to the archeological museum with ease shortly after arrival and there were numerous places close by for dinner.

The room is quite large and nicely appointed. The bathroom is large and modern with many nice amenities - good quality shampoo/soaps, bathrobe, slippers, etc.

Salvatore in the bar is delightful and clearly enjoys his job. He serves several tasty finger foods with the complimentary welcome drink and has really good suggestions of places for dinner.

We unfortunately had to leave for an early morning flight and weren't able to enjoy the breakfast. But this was a lovely way to end our time in Italy - just wish we could have enjoyed the hotel a little longer!

I first read of this hotel in the New York Times travel section. Then I read reviews on here and thought it seemed extremely nice. I am guessing for Naples (no offense, but Naples in NOT a 5 star city) it may be nice. However, I think it is EXTREMELY over rated.

Our key card to the room never worked and we had to go back to the front desk multiple times. The TV didn't work. The bed was so uncomfortable, I could feel the bed springs on my back. Additionally, upon checkout, our room bill was 80 euros over what we had calculated it to be, and I am not a fan of sneaky charges.

The positives were that the man running the bar was very nice and kept adding small food plates to the counter for us to eat. Also, the break fast was one of the better ones we had for a hotel, although we may have been secretly charged for this which makes up the 80 euros.

Also, the neighborhood is pretty sketchy and our driver, a local, could not find this hotel ANYWHERE so map it out first.

I stayed at Palazzo Decumani as a splurge as I am on a very long trip and don't normally spend 90 euro/night. But Naples is so dirty and blighted with graffiti that it's wonderful to have a comfortable home base to explore the attractions of the city. It was an extremely good value as everything about the hotel is great. The service from the front desk staff is outstanding. The breakfast is excellent and lasts until 10:30, and the free wifi in the room works well, when it's working. If they would add free bottle of water in the Classic room that would be much appriciated.

Room Tip: The Classic rooms are on the side street on a low floor, but I didn't mind.
