“best kept secret, palazzo Decumani is the best hotel in naples”

On our recent trip to Naples we stayed one night at Palazzo Decumani. This is a wonderful hotel, located in a quiet cobblestone street near all the hustle and bustle of Naples. The staff is extremely friendly, the rooms extraordinarily furnished, decorated with exquisite taste and with all the anemities one could possibly ask for. During our stay, the hotel staff was very curteous, every need was fullfilled, the restaurant is excellent and we will always return to this beautiful hotel. We have absolutely no complaints, and for the rate we paid it is an absolute bargain! Congratulations to the owner of this hotel, this is a jewel!

A nice clean 4* hotel but don't expect any room service other than a toasted sandwich. The historic area of Naples is so disappointing, dirty, graffiti everywhere with beggars approaching you for money.....just don't go there

The worst city I have ever stayed in.

My husband and I stayed at the Decumani from 7/8-10, 2009. I was admittedly nervous about what the hotel would truly be like since we got a rate of 100 Euros per night and the hotel is right in the center of it all. I can say, without hesitation, that this hotel is truly a four star hotel and compared to everywhere else we stayed was an absolute bargain for what we received.

The hotel is in the historic center of Naples, walkable from Napoli Centrale. When you enter the lobby you are surrounded by modernism in the midst of incredible history. The lobby was extremely clean and serene. Our room though was fabulous. We had a huge bathroom with an incredibly large shower, bathrobes, slippers, flat screen TV, queen bed, desk and two closets. There was evening turn down service, A/C and the best buffet breakfast we had during our stay in Italy. We walked everywhere we wanted to go - even all the way to Santa Lucia.

Naples was equally fantastic and we'd highly recommend you stay here when you go.

Stayed here one night on the way back from the coast for our early morning flight from Naples airport. The actual hotel was easier to find then I thought, it looked nice from the outside and the room was good too. On the 4th floor, good size, huge rainfall shower and it was spotless. Just what we needed. Left too early for breakfast so can't comment on that. The reception staff were not that friendly, at no point were they rude but really didn't do anything other than the bare minimum. In the morning, the guy just put my case outside my car and said Ciao and went back inside. Bearing in mind this was 5am in the morning, it was pitch black and it was Naples!!!!! I shoved it in the boot, locked the doors and got out of there!! Would have been nice if he had lifted it into the boot for me. Anyway, I would stay here again as the room was really nice and I felt good value, but I did feel that the place lacked soul and the reception staff should be more welcoming.

Very nice and large sound proof room overlooking a small square in front of the hotel with doors onto small balcony. Quite a difficult hotel to find on your first visit to Naples. Full bathroom with the best supplies and big fluffy towels. Free wireless internet. Good breakfast with eggs to order and decent coffee. Nice helpful staff but not all English speaking. Only drawback no tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

We arrived at Palazzo Decumani following a scary drive from the port (for which our very angry driver charged us 20 Euros - despite the real cost of around 12 Euros).

The hotel is situated in a typically scruffy area of Naples although, to be fair, most areas are the same and the architecture is ruinied by graffiti.

Check-in
Reception nice, trendy I suppose, and completed quickly and efficiently.

Room
Nice enough, and very clean, but it could have been any time of day and you wouldn’t have known it as the (although very big) window overlooked the central fire escape/light- well. Very sad for the last day of our Honeymoon. Nice bathroom with good quality toiletries. The safe, almost amusingly, not attached to anything and the receptionist said this was normal (not sure my insurers would agree). A/C noisy and kept us awake – for the wrong reasons. WiFi would only work if you perched on the window-sill but, as it was free, OK.

Breakfast
Served in a very claustrophobic room (mosquito heaven – bitten twice in one sitting). Nice selection of pastries. No hot food in bain-marie – not topped up whilst we were there. Mediocre coffee.

In conclusion, this is a nice enough hotel and I think we were just unlucky with the room so, if we had to come back to Naples (and that would be too soon), we would consider the Palazzo Decumani.

We spent seven nights in the hotel which we choose due (a) it's level of comfort and the quiietness of the rooms (b) proximity to major historical sights and access to train station for excursions to Pompei etc. It did not disappoint on either account. Naples is a very vibrant city and we were aware of it's reputation for being a bit rough but can honestly say that at no time did we feel anxiety about walking around the main streets in the area late at night. Due to booking late we paid for a superior room which was a bit more spacious located on the second floor with a window overlooking the piazza. The hotel was first class in terms of all the services as well as the breakfast offered. A great deal of attention has been given to the room furnishings and faciltities. The only minor quible was that the air conditioning was set a bit too cold for our liking but the reception altered this after we mentioned it so that we could individually adjust it to a warmer maximum temparture as required. Overall for this part of Naples we would be surprised if a better hotel exists.
