We spent two nights in Naples at the Hotel Piazza Bellini during our three week trip to Italy in October, 2013. Osteria da Carmela is just around the block from the hotel, and as was the case with many other reviewers it was recommended by the hotel. In reflecting on our trip, our dinner at Osteria da Carmela stands out as one of our most pleasant dining experiences in Italy. The restaurant is small and unpretentious but attractive. It is a "sit down" restaurant with white tablecloths and is not a pizza restaurant. When we first arrived, there was only one other couple eating there. After ordering our food, a large group of local diners arrived filling up the place. The young lady who served us was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, and the food and wine were both excellent. Like other reviewers, our bill consisted only of the handwritten total amount due. I figured that this was a quaint local custom, and since the amount was about what I expected I didn't complain or ask for further backup. I would unhesitatingly recommend Osteria da Carmela to friends and other travelers.
