“Comfortable hotel in impressive historic building”
Reviewed 6 July 2012

I spent two nights in this hotel to visit the centre of Naples. My room was quite large and had a tasteful, modern interior. The bathroom was perfectly clean and had excellent facilities.

The M Gallery Hotel is located in a very impressive historic palazzo that used to be the house of Joachim Murat, king of Naples at the time of Napoleon. No need to say that this special location creates a great atmosphere. The famous archeological museum of Naples, the Piazza Garibaldi and the Central Station are on walking distance. The neighbourhood is a rather poor working-class district. However, we didn't encounter any problems.

Breakfast was very good, staff appeared to be very helpful if we had any questions. Just one remark: each room could only access the internet with one device. Internet access had to be renewed every 12 hours.

To conclude: great hotel for a very low price, definitely recommended if you want to pay a visit to Naples.

First time I've stayed in a Palace converted hotel. The room, bed, shower, etc were all perfect. The bathroom had excellent amenities plus a comfortable robe.Very pleasant view from the inside patio of the palace. The staff could not have been more helpful to all of our questions and requests - thumbs up for Paola and Laura! The breakfast was also fantastic! The hotel has a handy bus that take you to the center of Naples, if you don't feel like walking some picturesque and touristic 2km. Highly recommended.

This hotel is really lovely and amazing value for money. However my one complaint is that despite there being a lovely courtyard housing comfortable chairs for relaxing it was always very difficult to get a drink whilst sitting there. The staff were constantly tidying the cushions and emptying ashtrays etc but they never reported back to the appropriate personnel that people were looking to order drinks. On four separate occasions after waiting for someone to arrive for approx 20 mins to take our drinks orders we had to go and find someone to take the order. Furthermore we also saw people leave having given up waiting for a bartender to arrive. Such a shame because apart from this minor problem the place is great and we would certainly stay there on another occasion.

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. Rooms are a good and comfortable size with comfortable beds (great pillows!), adequate storage, minibar, and flat screen TV. The bathrooms are large with a shower/soaking tub ("rain" shower head coupled with hand held), and wonderfully large/soft towels. The courtyard is a wonderful place to sit and have a drink/meal. We ate lunch and dinner at the restaurant, and the food was quite good, but I'd recommend eating outside the hotel as well. Decor is a wonderful combination of modern and historic. I wouldn't describe the staff as "warm" so I understand some of the other reviews; however, I do not count this against the hotel because we found the staff to be helpful, responsive, and friendly when engaged in conversation (especially when we attempted to speak with them in Italian). We had a problem with the air conditioning that was quickly fixed within 15 minutes of our complaint. The hotel is located on a busy street with many locals outside at all times. We found this convenient because you can easily get a beer or soda at lower cost right around the corner. It can be noisy with the windows open, but the windows, shutters and drapes offer noise control and privacy a guest would want. I think the location is perfect - within walking from the Duomo and historical center of Napoli, 15 min drive (10-15 euro taxi) from airport, and 15 min drive (10 euro taxi) from the port. We luckily found a wonderful and accommodating taxi driver when we arrived at the port. We called him for all of our taxi-travel. He spoke Italian only but I'd be willing to share his contact information via private message. I don't think you will regret staying at this hotel if you are visiting Napoli.

Feel free to contact me with any questions.

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights with a friend. The hotel is a former palace, beautifully refurbished with a good location.
The rooms are well equipped; with large bathrooms and air condition.
Breakfast can be served at the terrace, which is very nice.

However, and very surprisingly, there is no water in the mini bar; we thought it was a mistake but got it confirmed by the reception when asking for the mini bar price list which was not in our room by the way.
It means that if you get thirsty, you need to drink tap water in the bathroom or call the room service which in any case is totally inadequate.

Breakfast: if you want to get some fruit juices, you have to guess by taking any of the bottles in the fridge ( i picked up a bottle with an orange liquid in it assuming it was orange juice but it was peach instead and I struggled to get find some orange juice).
Same for the pastries; there is a bunch of croissants, but most of them are filled with jam and again you have to grab and try a couple of them before getting a plain one eventually.

Finally, the attitude of the staff for the breakfast was appalling; they decided on sunday for a stupid and silly reason not to serve breakfast outside on the terrace, leaving us only the inside dark room. When we told them that we wanted to be seated outside, then they told us that they will leave the coffee at the door, which is literally only 2 meters far from where we were (but we were outside). We also had to set up the table (whilst they still had to relive everything once we were gone!) Outrageous. You also need to ask constantly for more coffee to the waiters since it is not available, but cups are way too small so you need constantly to find a waiter and ask for more which is not nice.

Concierge: there is a concierge at the hotel; which is nice. We asked him some help to book a trip on the Amalfi coast. He came back to us proposing a visit covering less cities than any other tour we found on the internet, but twice more expensive! (500 euros for a day, which is a robbery!). We ultimately booked a limo with a private driver for the whole day thanks to internet and this was awesome and costed us 300 euros, and we visited much more cities and saw much more than if we would have gone with the hotel.
The concierge also advised us a tour guide for 3 hours i order to visit Naples, which we also declined considering the astronomic price 150 euros. Finally, when we asked for the schedule of the boats going to Capri, he told us to wait the day of the departure since he could check on the newspaper! so weird and not professional.

Overall, still a very good experience, but the hotel, and in particular the Food and Beverage management could be much better as well as the concierge who might getting some commission on the back of the guests...

Despite this, I still recommend this hotel since overall I had a good experience.
