“Cool comfort in the city”
Reviewed 8 May 2013

A very clean, quiet and comfortable place to luxuriate after a dip into the rougher parts of Napoli. This beautiful building may not be in the most upmarket part of town, but it's not far from the railway station and a short walk from the archaeological museum. Our air-conditioned room overlooking the internal courtyard was very quiet, comfortable, cool and clean. Marble-tiled bathroom with modern fittings. Everything worked except the mini-bar refrigerator - a call to reception fixed that in 10 minutes. I booked and pre-paid via britishairways.com but still had to pay a local tax in cash when checking out. It is Italy after all.

We planned for a 2 night stay and had to extend to 3 thanks to Lufthansa strike!
Front desk personnel was very attentive and with good english.
There is a charge for room internet and has a weak signal.
We had ants in the room but the rest of the room was very comfortable, great shower.
Always use taxis from hotel, confirm fare with front desk and clarify with driver before getting on the car!!
Breakfast is expensive but with a great selection. Dinner was SUPER expensive and with limited options, room service menu woul've been a better option.
Staff at dinner was unprofessional, singing and dancing instead of doing their job, had to ask for check 3 times.
Hotel was not busy at all, last night we decided to bring a pizza and wine and enjoy it in one of the many tables available in courtyard (we were the only ones out there), at one point someone from restaurant came to tell us that was forbidden to use the hotel areas for eating outside food....I was in no mood to argue so I just dissmiss her, all I wanted was a little dinner on a safe enviroment because the city was just baaad but that is a different review.

This hotel is good. Lovely historical building with quiet courtyards. Our room had good bathroom and bed was comfortable. There are no irons or ironing boards. We found the area around the hotel to be very run down, with a lot of graffiti, rubbish
etc. This meant finding a restaurant in the area difficult. We ended up eating at hotel which was fair and adequate. The service was very good in restaurant. We would recommend spending extra on taxi if staying on coast and limiting time in Naples. We stayed as we have a 10 am flight out.

A strenuous uphill walk from Garibaldi station. Reception spoke good English but was somewhat annoyed when I asked to decide later if I wanted to extend my stay. But the rest was just excellent. When Wifi did not work from my (small) first floor room, I got immediately offered to change to a fantastic 3rd floor room. Quiet, large bed, great TV with about 100 international channels. Huge, modern bathroom. Wifi is 7Euros for the entire stay but worked well on the 3rd floor.

Room Tip: Avoid 1st floor (no Wifi, small rooms)

This hotel exceeded my expectations and being that we were there pre season it seemed as if we had the whole palace to ourselves! This is one of the most unique places I have stayed and the loft room we were given was lovely. Our room faced the street but was not noisy at all. It was actually fun to sit and watch all the activity going on outside with a glass of wine in hand.

Loft area was a bit stuffy--perhaps a fan would help. I was told they don't turn the air con on until June. The only way to cool the room off up there to sleep comfortably was to open the window, which of course meant a lot of noise...On a positive note the beds were extremely comfortable--the best we slept in the entire 10 day trip.

Good tip: they have a fixed price taxi to the airport for E15 which is far better than a private transfer which will cost you E30-E35. Take advantage of it if necessary. We had a very early flight ( 6 am) and had no problem arranging an early morning taxi the night before. Please note the taxi driver may try to charge you more ( ours did) but just kindly remind him you know that there is a fixed price agreement with the hotel for E15!

I highly recommend this lovely hotel for any stay in Naples and contrary to what many reviewers here have said I found the neighborhood to be just fine!

Room Tip: Loft rooms are great!

The hotel is a very nice historical palace in the old city center of Naples, especially the two inside gardens are an oasis of peace.
the rooms are large and very well decorated, bathroom are also wide and very bright.
The breakfast is simply phenomenal, there are a lot things to eat and all of them very very good.

the people that work in the hotel are all very kind and helpful.
considering the rooms and the hotel the quality/price ratio is very good, but it's normal considering the location and the city

After all these positive aspects, I have to tell the negative things:
the location is not fantastic, even if the hotel is in the city center, the surroundings seems to be disreputable.
In the room the temperature is very very high and the AC are not very silent

We stayed here for two nights and paid for our room using Priority Club points so, for this reason (I assume), we were given a very small room; a stark contrast to the luxurious and grand appearance of the reception area! However, that said, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom modern and the room clean. We were also given robes and good quality toiletries, which were a pleasant touch. All staff we encountered were friendly and spoke good English (if, like us, you forgot to brush up on your Italian before arriving!)

The downsides were the lack of tea/coffee making facilities, a €7 charge for wi-fi and an over-priced restaurant (which clearly caters to the 'on expenses' crowd).

As other reviewers have said, Naples is a dirty city, but that isn't the hotel's fault and this feature isn't exclusive to this area so don't let that put you off staying here. It's a good average, but maybe not quite deserving of its 4* status.
