“Nicely located & good hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2008

Stayed a few days over Christmas & new year 2007.

Very good location, with a view over the bay, so no hemmed in feeling. Nice to walk along the promenade in front. The main town & sights, & train to Pompeii/Herculaneum are a pleasant 15-30mins walk, but plenty of taxis around.

Room & bathroom very clean & spacious. Decor slightly dated. Furnishings very nice, & bed very comfortable.

Communal rooms also very large / spacious, but again slightly dated decor. Also, probably seemed quite odd, since there were few people around.

Staff generally very professional & pleasant.

What a wonderful experience we had at this hotel. This hotel is a better experience than the Excelsior in Rome (we stayed there first). By the way the hotels are not related. The property is beautiful, is decorated in such good taste. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, some of them have wonderful views of the bay and the surrounding area is wonderful to walk by. I agree that Naples can be a little dangerous but if you are careful, you'll be fine. We walked several times for dinner, one time at midnight, and we did not find the least of a problem outside. Breakfast buffet is very good, above average from Europe. Service is amazing, someone walks you through the hotel facilities and show you to your room at check in, in fact, I think some people would feel uncomfortable with this quality of service. We had a car but hotel location is perfect so we did not use it during our stay. Staff gave us good pointers for a visit to Pompeii and Capri. A big drawback is that parking rates are enormous at the hotel, we know now a better alternative was a public garage just a couple of blocks away. I strongly recomend this hotel and would stay here again. Loved Naples by the way...

We booked a large oceanview room and were not dissapointed. The room was by far one of the most beautiful hotel rooms we have stayed in. The walls were covered in gold silk fabric and the decor was equally posh. We really enjoyed having two bathrooms and the many windows overlooking the bay and castle. After a day in Naples we saw what we came to see and were not too upset to be leaving but were sad to leave our gorgeous room...

I am a pretty loyal Starwood guy so I like to stay at Starwood properties, but I had read and heard some iffy things about this hotel. So when I arrived with my wife I was a bit nervous. There was no need.

We got a marina facing room that had views of Vesuvius and the sea. The room looked like it had recently been refurbished - the green cloth wall coverings and moldings looked brand new. There was some construction noise during the day (when we came back for mid afternoon rests) but it was not bad at all - and furthered my impression that the rooms are being upgraded and refurbed.

Saw some comments about the area around the hotel. My wife and I felt very safe walking at night and there was nothing sketchy about the area at all.

The garbarge crisis in Naples is for real - but there wasn't ANY problem in the city centre at all. Naples is a very compact city so it gets a bit dirty all by itself, but there were no overflowing mounds of trash anywhere we saw. Maybe we saw one near the trainstation, and maybe 1 or 2 scattered here or there. But the REAL problems are over the hills in the 'burbs. In comparison, if you are familiar with New York City, I'd say it was if there was no garbage issue in Manhattan south of 125th street, but that the other boros had issues.

If I have any negative, its that the hotel staff didn't ever seem to know the weather report for day - but thtas easy to find out yourself.

Hi
I stayed here for business.
Its nice hotel with one of the nicest settings. The rooms are a a bit worn and tired but ok I wouldnt want to think I had paid a lot of money for them.
Be so careful outside though on two of the three nights colleagues going outside for a smoke got their wallets and watches stolen at knife point.
Naples really is not a nice place.

We stayed at the Naples Excelsior in late March during a very cold Easter week. After a difficult journey, we were greeted warmly and shown around the hotel. It was magnificent! The lobby and restaurant are incredible(so was Breakfast) as was the view from the rooftop terrace!
I was concerned after reading one negative review, but my fears were immediately abandoned upon checking in. Our rooms were immaculate with every amenity available. It was definitely the highlight of Naples- I would highly recommend the Excelsior!

Hotel is perfectly located on the water's edge directly facing a beautiful mideval castle and small boats dock, about 10mins walk from the major pedestrian area of Naples.

Rooms are beautiful and peaceful, and all face either the above view or that of Mount Vesuvius (that overlooks Pompeii).

Staff are friendly and gracious.

I recommend this hotel highly for romantic getaways or pampering weekend breaks to this city.
