“Great Hotel, Wonderful Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

Naples was not one of our favorite cities, but it worked perfectly as our first stop on a three week vacation. We took a day trip to Capri and enjoyed a few sites in Naples on the one full day we were there and had a half day city tour on our first day with a private guide. The nice thing about the hotel is its proximity to the Bay (beautiful views), the promenade where there are a ton of restaurants.....no need to taxi anywhere as there is a wide selection for dining within walking distance......good pizza or pasta readily available. We were in room #335 which had beautifully polished hardwood floors. The room was large (540 square feet) and extremely comfortable. Furnishing included a desk and chair and desk lamp, 2 arm chairs and side table, floor lamp, flat panel TV of about 42" with a wide range of channels available. There were twin beds, 2 night stands, 2 lamps.....lighting was fair for reading. A remote control for lights and there are shutters on the exterior of the room that can also be controlled remotely to give you excellent black-out capacity. An entry hall with walk in closet in addition to the square footage in the room. The closet had a five drawer dresser and a 2 drawer dresser with six shelves also...plenty of room for your clothes. They had wood hangers that you could take off of the permanent attachment ring on the closet hanger rod......cumbersome......loose wood hangers that remove easily is a much better solution. The bath room had fair lighting and they supplied an unlit magnifying mirror attached to the wall. Single Marble Pullman Sink of about 8 feet. Marble wand shower that was easy to adjust as part of the tub combo with excellent pressure and no surges in the hot water. Marble floor and walls. Blow Dryer. Toilet and Bidet. About 120 square feet in the bath room. Heated towel rack....great for drying clothes. All in all a well serviced hotel with excellent maids and good concierge desk. Not so sure we would go back to Naples, but we certainly would recommend the hotel.

We stayed for five nights in a large suite overlooking the Castel dell'Ovo. The service is really good. The room is clean and very nicely decorated with rich green silk wall paper and matching drapings. The best part of our stay was definitely the buffet dinner on the 7th floor where they offer a variety of salads, vegetables and fish. Breakfast, included in the price was also very nice. On the downside, We went to Pompeii by train which goes from the central station. To get there you need a taxi. (By the way, do not miss the Archeological museum where thousands of items found at Pompeii are kept) We also went to Capri for a day tour from the port, to get there one also needs to take a taxi. To most of the attractions you need a taxi. If the taxi does not have a meter, you have to ask the price before you get in as taxi fares differed a lot in our experience.

Room Tip: Room 412 where we stayed was good.

We stayed one night in 2 connecting rooms which was perfect for our family of 4. The rooms were quiet and clean and really quite large. Only downside was that the shower got water all over the bathroom! I think a shower curtain is necessary!

Also I forgot my handbag at breakfast and Paola found it and delivered it to my room! The staff is truly first class and very helpful.

We had lunch on the terrace and cocktails on the rooftop - amazing and so serene! I loved it.

If you want to get away from the chaos of the city the Hotel Excelsior has a lovely bar. Beautiful original decor with gorgeous frescoes. It's pricey but the service is Impeccable, excellent quality of cocktails made by a real "barman" and the "apperitivo" snacks can replace a meal. All is made fresh. I always enjoy a light apperitivo on Sundays before a Sunday meal.

Loved this hotel! Huge rooms, comfortable and clean. Great location with incredible view of castle and coastline. Napoli is really run down, so I wouldn't stay anywhere but along the coast in more tourist areas. Close to pier where you can get ferries to Isle of Capris, etc. Short drive to Pompeii, and tour companies will pick you up at this hotel. Cab drivers are crazy drivers, but safer than walking. Great food on the pier across the street. Breakfast was delicious and the view on the terrace is wonderful of Vesuvius and castle. Take your camera to breakfast!!!

Room Tip: Make sure you have a view of the coast!

We stayed one night before heading to Capri . The hotel was beautiful and clean. The beds, pillows, and towels were comfortable. This is in a great place in town for walking or jogging. We had a balcony and view of the bay and Capri. The breakfast was tasty and served on the top floor with dining inside or on the terrace. The staff is very helpful and pleasant. Downside: low water pressure in the shower and no free Wi-Fi.

We wanted to end our holiday in Italy on a high note and this was certainly it! Our room was so luxurious, huge dressing room, marble bathroom. Many famous people have stayed here and we know why now. Simply quiet luxury. convenient for shopping, resturaunts, sightseeing, ferries, it has it all.
Go on, treat yourself!

Room Tip: Room to the side was quiet but still afforded a sea view.
