Forked over the cash for this place to avoid our graffiti soaked diggs in the city center. Very happy with our choice. The staff was lovely and upgraded us to a bay side room with a view of Vesuvius. Windows were double-glazed, but we did hear some traffic. Did not bother us (I was shocked!) so I'm glad we didn't ask for a back room. The bed was amazing - just sunk into the quality mattress and soft linens and slept for hours. Enjoyed the sitting area and flat screen tv too. Clean bathroom, good water pressure, and plenty of hot water. Location was far from tourist attractions, but ok for the ferry and quiet frankly I felt safer being away from everything at the end of the day here. Two nits: Breakfast was horrendous - try to get a rate without it and get a cappuccino when you hit the street. The shower was designed with an odd half door that lead to a flooded floor. Line the place with towels beforehand,
Happy Travels!

We LOVED the Hotel Excelsior! We used our Starwood points and were still able to get an upgrade to a beautiful corner suite - not always easy when traveling in Europe! The staff was very responsive to all of our requests we loved the location. We were traveling with our young son he loved it too. We were able to easily walk to many restaurants along the waterfront and it was just a little further walk to get to additional restaurants and nice shopping areas. The use of the spa at the neighboring hotel is a bit over-priced if you are only looking to take a dip in the pool, so we skipped it. But we did schedule a massage and it was excellent.

I was expecting a lot more from Naples, Italy. Boy, was I disappointed. This city is very dumpy, dirty, and made me feel unsure of my safety a lot of the time.

The Hotel Excelsior was well located (as it was in the very small area of high end hotels). It was close to the port, so it was easy to get there when traveling to Capri via ferry. There were plenty of restaurants to choose from around the hotel. I would not have ventured much further into town to dine.

Driving into Naples was a bit of a nightmare, and it did not help that the hotel was on the far side of the town, so the traffic delayed our arrival by quite a bit.

The hotel food was very overpriced. We chose not to eat here. Unfortunately the weather was terrible while we were there, so we could not even take advantage of the rooftop restaurant.

We left our car in the pull through at the front of the hotel. It was still sitting there 45 min later. The valet service is not great. It took over 30 min for them to bring our car around one morning. A bit irritating.

The "upgraded" room was very lack luster. The view was very nice, but there was nothing else exciting about our room. Very plain.

I have to pick "yes" or "no" if I would recommend this to a friend, and honestly I would pick "undecided".

This was our third stay at this hotel and everytime it just get's better and better. The entire staff is beyond belief - they always are a step ahead of your needs. The rooms are beautiful. large and modern. Excellent amenities. The view of the Gulf of Naples is exceptional. I simply cannot say enough about this hotel. We also travel with our Shih Tzu, which can prove to be difficult but they go above and beyond for her, which makes everthing so enjoyable. Many hotels state that they allow pets - but they reall don't allow them anywhere in the hotel but the room itself. Not here - they are great. We travel Italy extensively - and this has remained one of our all time favorites.

Only stayed at this hotel for one night but it was pure luxury from the time we arrived at the hotel foyer. We are travelling around for 5 weeks in Europe and have not found a hotel that even comes close to this one. We only stay in 4 star hotels some with better than other rooms as we are booking as we go. Our room overlooked the bay of Naples. There was not one thing I could pick at all about the room and the value compared to others was excellent. Breakfast for 24 Euro was very good. The area along in front of the bay was busy and had plenty of places to eat. We had the best food in Italy here in Naples. The staff were efficient and helpful.

Overall, I was quite surprised by this hotel. This hotel was in a perfect location right along the waterfront in Naples. We were able to walk to so many sites from the hotel, not to mention some good shopping nearby. There were fabulous restaurants within a nearby stroll as well. The rooms were european elegance, and the hotel went out of their way to accommodate our family in adjoining rooms. The marble bathrooms were beautiful and my daughter especially loved the decadence of the huge closet. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only real drawback was the cost of the breakfast, which is a common problem throughout the nicer hotels in Europe. After a couple of days, we walked down the street, had coffee and delicious pastries and skipped the expensive breakfast.

We spent a couple of nights here to round off a recent trip to Italy. The hotel was quiet in late August, but still exuded the grandeur that its location near the castle and marina demands. Rooms were comfortable: we got a good deal of €155 a night (excl breakfast). Staff were very helpful. Bar though quiet was nice. We ate in the rooftop restaurant one night: choice was limited and though the food was good, it would have benefited from a decent tasting menu. The restaurant lacked the class of other similar places we have eaten. As with plenty of similar hotels, there are lots of extra charges: €30 pp for breakfast is too much; €10 for 8 hours wifi unnecessary and €6 for a small Coke from the fridge ridiculous. All in all, this is a great place to stay, but why is it the top hotels that behave like Ryanair when it comes to trying to rip customers off (we had free wifi and minibar in several other Italian hotels)?
