“Treasure trove”
Reviewed 18 July 2014

The museum has the great treasures from Pompeii and Herculaneum (sculpture, mosaics, fresco painting, objects and erotica) as well as a great number of Roman sculpture of utmost importance. Every time I go to Naples I return to see these works anew.

“Thought we would see more”

A bit boring after visiting Pompeii and Herculenium. Visit these instead. The forbidden room is quiet an eye opener though!

“Amazing Mosaics”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

Most of the incredible mosaics from Pompeii are here. They are beautiful, irreplaceable works of art. There are no longer artists capable of reproducing such intricate pictures using chips of glass.

Why then are they displayed in such shocking conditions?

The entry fee was accepted only in cash. Why? With hundreds of visitors annually one would expect that they would mend a large area of the floor. The building looks like it's going to fall down. The courtyard was full of weeds.

The mosaic floor of Alexander the Great was modelled on a contemporary painting. This is the closest likeness that exists. I got the feeling that these were not being well cared for but shown for cash.

Visit before it's too late.
