“Not to be missed!”

What an amazing place! We went on a coach tour from Maiori to Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. The walk to the top from the place where all the transport stops is about 20 mins. The walk is gravelly so closed comfortable shoes are a must. The views from the top were out of this world. With the clouds and smell of sulphur, it is very atmospheric. Definitely worth the walk up.

“Trip to Vesuvius”
Reviewed 22 August 2014 via mobile

We had been to Vesuvius before on an organised tour so decided to do it on our own this time. Travelled by train from Sorrento to Pompeii Scavi. €2.20 single ticket. Once off the train, turn left and head towards the Busvia tour stand. You can buy a ticket, €22 for adults and €7 for age 4-10. This includes transport to and from Vesuvius and entry to walk up to the crater. Bus leaves on the hour from 0900 to 1700. Bus takes you to the Vesuvius National Park and then you are given a ticket for the 4x4 jeep that transports you up to the walking point to the crater. 15-20 min walk and not too steep. A guide is provided to tell you a bit about Vesuvius however having been before we skipped that to allow more time at the crater for photos and relaxing. Bus driver tells you the time to be back to the bus which is usually 1.5 or 2 hours. They leave promptly so make sure to allow enough time for the walk down. The 4x4 is a bit bumpy but the children enjoyed it. All in all a great day and some wonderful views from the top. Don't forget to bring water and wear training shoes as the path is gravel and a bit dusty.

“Breathtaking Views!”
Reviewed 20 August 2014

We took the Unimog 4x4 buses up to the look out point, this in itself is an experience! Not unlike a fairground ride! The 4x4 ride delivers you to a location just below the crater, from here it's a 20-30 minute walk to the crater rim itself, with stunning views along the way. Whilst not particularly steep, the terrain is sandy and can be a little slippery, especially when coming down, that said there are rope railings all the way, so plenty to hold onto. My 8 year old daughter and myself had no problems going up and down.

Once at the top the views are amazing - you can peer into the crater itself. Walking around the crater rim, you get spectacular views over the Bay of Naples and the city itself.

“Climbing Mount Vesuvius”
Reviewed 20 August 2014

My husband and I climbed Mount Vesuvius. It was a very steep climb, but it was great. You can see smoke coming out of the top of the volcano when you are up there. It was a great activity to do together as a couple. I recommend this.

“Visiting Vesuvius”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

Well worth going for the geography, the view and the experience but -- a great example of Italian scamming and poor presentation of the rich heritage they have. No information regarding the History and Geography apart from some very old signs here and there. Very grumpy man in little more than a tent giving out (expensive) tickets and no prices or ticketing information on display. Just a bit of rudeness when you politely ask. Beware of scams on way up to park car also- unofficial money makers. Such a shame as this is a great place to visit - a wonderful spectacle. If you are driving yourself as we did - watch for buses coming on your side of the road down narrow bling and steep bends. Also - our Sat Nav took us not to the official car park were you walk up but to a place where Jeep like mini buses drive you up for a lot of money - had to ask locals for the way to the "normal way up". Despite this - well worth it - just wish they appreciated what they have a bit more - provide some information and not make you feel you are being scammed.
