only the view, but nothing else... 4 star hotel with 3 star value. Even though it has been renovated lately, especially the rooms don't have any warm atmosphere. Only nice thing is the view of the castel del Ovo, obviuously if you book a sea view room

After reading the reviews before I went to this hotel, I was very wary, but having come back, all I can say the people who wrote bad reviews MUST of been staying at another hotel !!!!!!
we had a room at the front so a fantastic view over the bay of naples, bed very comfy, great shower, air con good, breakfast a wide variety to choose from, all the staff very pleasant and helpful, I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting naples and the tour bus stop is right outside, what more could you want...... :)

We spent 5 nights at this hotel and encountered numerous problems, none of which were resolved by the staff!
We left the AirCon on full blast for the entire 5 days and nights, but the room was still boiling.
The minibar contained 6 miniature bottles of spirit with the seal broken. When informed, reception told us a "technician" would look into it.
We asked a few questions on how to get to different places, and each time we received a different answer - and they were all misleading!
The bed is very solid, not very comfortable.
On the positive side, the pool area is nice and had a nice member of staff attending it (bar/lifeguard). Also the location is great, on the seafront and close enough to port to get to the ferry.
Would not recommend the hotel, based purely on the attitude of the staff and the lack of service.

Nice location by the bay with a good view from your room (if facing the bay), if not the view is good enough to keep your windows closed! Bed was not very comfortable, bathroom was resonable with a tub. Internet connection in the room is a dial up network! You need to pay for the wireless connection which non of the staff knew the price for. The sky TV network on the tele shows news and italian channels, rest you have to pay for (ie no movies or sitcoms either). Did not check other hotels but this place is safe for you to walk out for a meal closeby with a view of the bay.

This hotel has the best location , just opposit to the so called Egg castle and facing the sea, a very good view whilee having breakfast. The staff at the reception is more tuned to business travellers than holiday goers, but overall the location is so good that you wouldnt complain. ~140-180 euros per night. breakfast included , which has a lot of breads to choose from and egg,ham ,milk, cornflakes, jams, croissants, tea coffee served by the waiters.swimming pool on the roof top.large business meeting rooms . Piano player during the evening. Both economy & suites available. Morning you can get a taxi easily to the naples central station to go t o rome(15 euros) and the port to go to capri beach is nearby as well (16 euros one way)

I lived in Naples for nine years so knew what to expect location wise which is why I chose this hotel. It really is super, overlooking the little harbour and Castle, near some lovely restaurants (Regina Margherita and Rossopomodoro were exceptional and just along the sea front from the hotel) and within walking distance of the shops. The swimming pool on the roof was fabulous, never crowded and the lifeguard/bartender/all rounder was friendly. It was open 11am til 7pm and has a small menu so you can eat by the pool. On a few occasions though the pool either closed early or we weren't allowed to use the pool because there had been some rain earlier in the day. Disappointing. The view from the pool is breathtaking though, overlooking Capri and has a veranda to sit out on to enjoy it.
We stayed in two rooms as I had made two separate bookings. The first was a superior double with sea view. The view was amazing and although I have seen it 3000 times before it never ceases to amaze. The actual room was big with a balcony with table and chairs but had a small bathroom that flooded. There was no iron, kettle or sewing kit which is normal for Italian hotels. The second room was a classic but to be honest was exactly the same as the "superior" in fact the bathroom was bigger (although this flooded too) and the room was enormous with a lovely wooden floor. We also had a huge terrace overlooking the sea, from the side of the building. Bizarrely there was no terrace furniture to enjoy the view so we took the chairs from the room outside.
The reception staff need to get their act together, they didn't seem to know what they were doing. I was told we could stay all week in the superior room to avoid us changing mid week but on the third day the room door wouldn't open and we were told we had to move rooms. The housekeepers were great though, they went out of their way to get anything we needed like robes and slippers (which weren't provided in either room unless asked for). The general manager was one of the most unfriendly people I have ever met in my life! He is definitely in the wrong job!
The breakfast was quite good - croissants, breadrolls, jams, ricotta, fruit, ham, yoghurts, cheese, coffee, juices. The scramble "egg" tasted of water and was inedible, the bacon was not like English bacon but not too bad. The waiters gave special attention to young single women but ignored us, in fact we even had to set out own place settings on the last day! Fabulous view from the restaurant though which was open 6.30am to 10am, 12 til 3pm in the afternoon. I think it is open 7 til 10 at night but not 100% sure. In the evenings there was a pianest in the foyer, which was a nice touch.
Overall I enjoyed the week, I knew the location and wasn't particularly surprised by some of the hotel staff attitude. The positives outweigh the negatives and I would probably return. Next time though I would book a classic room with sea view because I couldn't see the difference between the superior and classic apart from the price!

The hotel was nice apart from reception area the rooms and so forth were quite average. Found all members of staff we encountered to be extremely rude and unhelpful, We only stayed one night on a stop over from the amalfi but would not stay again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Four stars for the Hotel Royal Continental, a hotel on the seafront promenade of Naples with a fascinating past, rebuilt in 1955 by Ferdinando Chiaromonte where once stood the Grand Hotel Royal des Etrangers . Today it is known as a structure of great prestige framed by the extraordinary beauty of the Bay of Naples. Large common areas , multiple meeting spaces , picturesque corners of relaxation, the Royal Continental sparkles elegantly with vintage charm thanks to the interiors designed by Gio Ponti , one of the greatest architects of the twentieth century. The furniture too was designed by him combined with designs by young architects of his choice . All 397 rooms, of which most have large windows and a balcony facing the breathtaking view of the Gulf, are spacious and very bright. On the Floor Museum Gio Ponti you can stay in one of the 24 rooms with wooden furnishings and fixtures designed specifically for the Hotel by Ponti. Suspended furniture, three-drawer chests with feet, and magazine racks and lamps in satin brass integrated into headboards from briar have made the history of Italian design. In stunning New York style, the Roof on the tenth floor, from which the beautiful view of the ancient Borgo Marinari and the legendary Castel dell'Ovo can be enjoyed, presents the one of a kind sea-water pool designed by Gio Ponti, published in 1954 on the cover of Domus. Guests are offered the solarium, outdoor bar, Fitness Center, massages booked in advance and two exclusive restaurants with spectacular panoramic views that stretch from the Vesuvius to the hill of Posillipo and the island of Capri. Breakfast served by the sea, in addition to the buffet which offers freshly baked pastries by Hotel Royal Continental, including oven fresh Neapolitan sfogliatelle, pastry horns. Location of reference for events and meetings, the Royal Continental is a well known Conference Center of primary importance in the national scene. Equipped with the most modern equipment and complimentary Wi-Fi, the Conference Center is characterized by its many meeting rooms with natural light and sea views. An exceptional location for large or small events thanks to its Auditorium setaing 530, its 16 Meeting rooms, 13 business suites and exhibition space, more than 200 sqm large. Pets up to 10 kg are allowed with an extra cost of 20 euros per stay.
