“Nice Stay, Nice Staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2013

Overall it was a nice stay in a nice location and accommodating staff. After arriving in the late evening and checking into our room, we discovered the telephone did not work. Since we were expecting to talk to our wedding planner from Slow Dreamsthat evening to discuss the next day’s activities, it was important we have telephone service. The staff didn’t just relocate us to a room with a working telephone but made it an upgrade with a balcony and an amazing view. The room and bathroom was clean and provided us enough space for the single day we were there. The rooftop restaurant provided us our first dinner in Italy and it set the bar very high for the remainder of our trip.

I cannot say anything negative about this hotel. It was a pleasure to stay here after a disappointing b&b experience in Florence. The room was small but immaculate with a comfortable bed and sparkling clean bath. The soaps smelled like the flowers in Capri, and there was always hot water and plenty of towels. It looks exactly like the photos submitted here by tourists and management. The breakfast buffet in the rooftop restaurant with breathtaking views of Napoli was adequate with many local pastries and coronets, hazel nut spreads, fresh fruits, a variety of cereals, yogurts, milk, juices, and coffee could be prepared the way you like it by the staff, or you could pour your own from the tabletop carafes. The dinner menu was small but again, the best views of the Bay of Napoli, friendly staff, and lovely plantings of flowers and trees. The menu offered the typical Napoli classics in the traditional "courses" style. It is close to a funicular that will take you down to the Mergelllana, many restaurants, shops, and the bay. You can purchase tickets from the front desk for things like the Tour Bus (cash only). It is also close to a supermarket (Conad's) where we went to purchase water and snacks. There is a small mini-fridge in the room. They also provide laundry service (expensive) but an iron is free. Other than the supermarket and a few coffee shops, there is little to walk to from the Hotel, as it is in a quiet residential area. Called the Posillipo, It is a very nice area where the locals say "the rich & famous live"! Cabs abound. The views are fantastic on the funicular and give you a good sense of where you are. It is close to the Mergellana and the many restaurants there as soon as you get off the funicular. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: We did not pay the additional $100 plus for a room with a view of the Bay of Napoli. The other rooms...

The Hotel Paradiso has the most spectacular views over the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius. It has a beautiful rooftop restaurant The bedrooms are a good size. There was always hot water for showers and the staff were friendly. As in most of Naples English is not widely spoken but the reception staff's English was adequate. The restaurant serves lovely food but has a limited menu. The continental breakfast was more than adequate and staff were helpful. It is quite high up above the outskirts of Naples but the Funicular is only 150 metres up the hill which takes you down to Mergellina. Certainly a hotel worth staying in away from the hustle, bustle and traffic in the centre of Naples

The view from the hotel over the bay of Naples is possibly the best of any hotel in Naples. The hotel itself is perfectly fine. Check in was OK despite a couple hiccups. The friendly and efficient staff helped make what could have been very stressful into a calm transaction. Rooms at the rear of the hotel face a wall as others have said, though I was offended or put off by this. The wall was covered in climbing plants which made a nice contrast to the glare of the sun on days out. My room was a bit tighter than I would like, but not so small that it was uncomfortable. Decor is nice enough. It seems appropriate for the age of the hotel (possibly 1930's modernist I think). Despite it's possible age it has held up well and considering this region of Italy etc. the decor was as expected. Cleanliness was excellent, the cleaning staff as friendly as those at check-in. Breakfast was great. Flooded with morning light with views over the bay to Vesuvius, Capri and the curve of the bay just below the hotel at Mergellina. I would be more than happy to spend any time at the hotel again- for the access to such views every morning alone.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the sea are obviously more attractive, although for the difference in price and access...

Staying in Hotel Paradiso for 2 nights. The rooms are small and dated but very comfortable. However there is minimal sound proofing and if you are a light sleeper I wouldn't recommend it. I could hear everything from the room next door...

We stayed here for a few days while a family member was being treated in a nearby hospital. The staff could not have been warmer or more kind to us during a very difficult and emotional week. We are especially grateful to Salvatore and Veronica for going out of their way to make sure we had enough -- and delicious -- food.

The views from this hotel are truly spectacular, and the area of the city (Posillipo) is the most upscale and one of the safest in Naples. It's only a short cab ride to the center, or to the charming restaurants of the Marechiaro area directly on the waterfront.

The restaurant is very good for dinner, and the continental breakfast is quite comprehensive.

The rooms are quiet and very comfortable, especially for such a reasonable price.

All in all, we would definitely stay here again and recommend it to those traveling through Naples.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors have a view of the Bay of Naples and Mt Vesuvius.

This hotel looked great on the Internet with its expansive views situated as it is on the side of a hill overlooking Naples and out over the bay to Vesuvius. Indeed the view is well worth a brief stay. Naples itself we found to be quite exciting, terribly busy but very dirty and appeared to lack upkeep and routine maintenance, quite different to Rome. It is however an exciting city to visit, just be very careful crossing roads where traffic lights and pedestrian crossings appear to have little use.
The hotel itself however we found, over our 3-day stay with friends, did not live up to its alleged 4-star status. The only good thing was the view and you had to have a bayside room to appreciate that otherwise the inner facing rooms looked into a wall. The rooms were not kept well and cleaning variable. The beds were comfortable but the bathroom small. We had innumerable power outages when we tried to boil an electric jug (provided on request to make tea and coffee) and learnt very quickly where the fuse box was located so it could be reset. The housekeeping did not clean or resupply the coffee facilities. Laundry was offered on the usual 'In by 9 back the same day' but ours despite being handed in at 745am took 2 days, a problem if one were moving on. Internet access was supposed to be supplied by Wi-Fi but logging in was variable and troublesome and could not be relied upon.
Staff, with one exception, was grumpy and begrudgingly helpful if asked for advice. We ate out rather than accepting this behavior in the restaurant (which does have a great view, as with the rooftop garden). Be aware there is not much around the hotel site and if you want to go out to eat you have to go downtown. A funicular rail runs a few minutes walk away and takes you down to Mergillina where there are good restaurants within 5 minutes walk from the end of the rail. Note that this stops running at 10pm so you have to get a taxi after this. Tickets for rail need to be bought in advance, as it is not easy in the evening to obtain if the nearby tabac has closed.
In summary, great views but next time we'd stay elsewhere.

Room Tip: Make sure you book the Bay of Naples side.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
BEST WESTERN Hotel Paradiso, situated on Posillipo Hill, enjoys a spectacular view of the Gulf of Naples, with Vesuvius as a backdrop.Within just 2,500 metres may be found: the San Paolo Stadium, the Mostra D’oltremare exhibition centre, the University of Federico II di Monte Sant’Angelo, the railway station and the Campi Flegrei subway stop. From many rooms, and certainly from our “Terrazza Paradiso" restaurant, following the line of the coast you see Castel dell'Ovo, built around the year 1000 on a small island of tufaceous rock named Megaris. This is where - legend has it - the siren Parthenope, enchanted by the beauty of the surroundings, constructed the city of Naples. Descending the hill, in a few minutes one arrives at the marina of Mergellina and, 200 metres after that, at the subway station. From here there is a good connection to the old city centre and to the central station, from where it is possible, in around 20 minutes, to reach the sites of Ercolano and Pompei. Also on Posillipo Hill, around 2 km from the hotel, and at the end of the incredibly scenic Via Petrarca, is Virgiliano Park with its green areas and wide terraces that look out onto a sheer view of the Marechiaro Sea, and with a clear view of the little island of Nisida. This is a sight of rare beauty for those who love walking or jogging far away from traffic. The rooms, the meeting rooms, and the scenic restaurant with its Mediterranean cuisine and the warm welcome of its staff, all act as guarantees of a pleasant holiday or business trip. ... more   less
