It's not the ritz but good value for the price. The area is seedy but safe enough (I wouldn't walk around at night by myself but no problem when with a companion). It was very near the station. We found the restaurants in the area ok but limited choice.
My husband and I had a 1-night stay before our flight out of Naples after a wonderful 3-week trip in Italy. Hotel Zara was an easy walk from the train station, and we appreciated the safe, locked entrance. The hotel is clean and adequate, especially for under 40 Euros. We did not feel threatened in any way in the neighborhood, but knew about the questionable area around the train and bus stations. The hotel staff (24-hour) gave us a recommendation for a nice outdoor cafe for dinner just a couple of blocks away. He also gave us tips on how to walk to the waterfront area, which we did. We had to be at the airport by 4:30 am, and the hotel manager called a dependable taxi for us the day before, which we were grateful for. We would definitely stay there again!
the hostel it is nice near to the main train station ,i enjoyed my stay...staff very friendly .
the hotel it is in the centre of the city ,for people that traval just for weekend or short stay it is excelent........
The location of this hotel is perfect for using public transport, great if you plan on doing day trips to Pompei, Herculaneum and Vesuvius. However you need to be aware that it is in a very bad neighbourhood - we didn't have a problem but I would not like to be travelling alone. The hotel itself is very secure so once inside we felt safe.
The room was ok, this is not a luxury hotel and you shouldn't expect much. Bit noisy as it opened on to the breakfast room. Mostly clean. Bed was a bit uncomfortable and the pillows are seriously awful.
Breakfast is a whole bunch of pastries and cakes. There was cornflakes but the milk was hot.
We stayed for 4 nights in late February. There are two levels of security to get into your room and this is necessary a Napoli is a fairly intimidating city. But after the first day you become comfortable with your surroundings and find the people standing around on every street corner are not interested in you. The hotel is functional and not unpleasant it is near to train and metro stations and a tram stop is handy in the other direction. We also walked to the Harbour and took the ferry for a day trip to beautiful Capri for around 40 euros each
Back in Napoli we found we had to go further afield to find somewhere to eat in the evening. Also found it very rare to find a bar in Napoli where you can sit and dwell over a drink . Everyone seems to pop in for a shot of coffee or a small bottle of peroni. The nearest we came to finding a place described as a pub actually turned out to be a kebab house that had beer on draft.
Considering that this is a 2 star hotel, I would say that my expectations were met for what you pay for. We were given a large family room with 2 double beds between my husband and myself however we found the beds to be uncomfortable. Also, for those who like a bit of a sleep in, you will find with all rooms along the hallway will have an issue with noise during breakfast time as the hallway isn't sound proofed so you will hear everything during breakfast time.
The location is convenient when taking the Alibus from the airport and taking the train to Sorrento from central station - though I do agree that the area may look a bit dodgey but if you're with someone it's fine.
