“Best hotel in Naples”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

Hotel Europeo is located directly in the historic center of Naples. In less than one minute walk you reach the first place that tourist should visit. It is set in the middle so that wherever you want to go, it is a perfect starting point. The rooms are really nice with good furniture, comfortable beds and they are decorated into detail. Really lovely! I went with my boyfriend and booked the "small double room". I stayed in the hotel one year ago with my mother and we had a really huge room with a big bathroom, so I expected the room to be small since it is called "small". But in reality they shouldn't call it like that because it fits very well for two persons! Really close to the hotel you kind find a lot of cafès and bars where you can have breakfast for an incredible small price and so delicious. Although the hotel is located so central, it is surprisingly quiet! I only want to mention two little advices: One is that the elevator is really really small. So who in general does not like to take the elevator because he or she feels "bad" I wouldn't recommend this one! Taking the stairs is possible and also a nice sport activity. The other point is that the room all the time had a cigarette smell, although we've left the window open all day. In the room in which I have stayed the last time this was not the case. Altogether the hotel is perfect for everyone who likes to stay in the center and wants to pay a very fair price!

Europeo is in a perfect location if you want to explore the old Naples and its surroundings. Shopping streets, historical sights and the authentic Neapolitan lifestyle begin right there, outside the hotel gate. Value is just excellent, considering everything.

The hotel itself is a bit funky, but in a completely charismatic fashion. Same goes for the rooms, which are just lovely in their own way. The staff is polite and nice, although maybe slightly quiet depending on the worker on duty.

All in all, I would recommend Europeo for anyone who wants dip in the old Naples vibe and actually live in the middle of it.

Before booking your stay, there is some basic information all visitors should read about the slight quirks of Europeo:

First of all, it's a bit hard to notice Europeo from the street as the entrance to the building is in fact inside a courtyard, which is gated. During the day, there's a cafe in front of the gate, but in the evening it looks like a empty lot. Next to the gate is a button and a speaker. Just press it and you are granted access. Walk through the courtyard to the back and on your right there is a door with another button and a speaker. This grants you access to the actual building with the hotel. Now, the whole building is not Europeo. Just two or three floors starting from floor four. The elevator is tiny, but you can take the stairs as well.

Reception is on one floor, but your room may be on other floor. Reception opens the lock to the corridor on the other floor, so that's interesting as well. You also need to always give your room keys to the staff when you leave your room. This is not a problem because the reception is open 24/7, but just know that you have to always check in at the reception (for your room key and possibly for them to open the corridor door lock).

When you are leaving the hotel you need to open the gate between the courtyard and street. The button for this is not located next to the gate but instead about 30 meters away. So when you are walking towards the gate, look to your left and you will notice it.

We booked this hotel only spending one night in Naples in transit. I have to say the staff were great, friendly and very helpful with information, but the rest of the hotel left a lot to be desired. The rooms were clean, but very small and the bed was well below average. Hard like a rock and small, with the European split mattress which did not help things. The window didn't lock which wasn't ideal, particularly in Naples as the city seems pretty unsafe. I suppose it was our fault in that we only booked a one star hotel, however we did this after looking at the ratings on tripadvisor so wanted other people to be aware of the limitations.

The location of this hotel is great. It is right in the historic center, just a few mins away from the port and the Spaccanapoli street. I found the entrance easily since I knew it was behind a cafe, and there were signs. The hotel is next to the university, I felt very safe during my stay. If you want to go to the station, you can walk or take the subway for 1 stop.

The hotel is on the 4th floor and really beautifully decorated. The staff is really friendly and helpful. They definitely added something to the experience. They speak english really well which is great.

The rooms are basic (fairly small) but perfect for a few days when you want to explore Naples and surroundings. They are nicely decorated, airconditioning works great. There is a safe available, just ask at the reception for the key. TV works fine, bed is comfy.
Bathroom is clean, shampoo and hairdryer provided.

Wifi worked perfectly (I was surprised since it often doesn't work in Italy)

I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone who is planning a trip to Naples!

Positive: Location, staff, rooms are nicely decorated, value for money.
Negative: Rooms are a little small
Tip: Ask the staff to explain how the gate works in the evening.

I travel a lot and I saw hundreds of hotels. This one is really nice located in the real historic centre, easy to reach railway station and sea port. Decoration of the hotel and rooms are higher of any compliments. Nice rooms, equipped with new TV set, air conditioning, safe box, etc. i strongly recommend staying here to explore Naples.

The hotel is located perfectly if you want to stay in the historic centre of Naples. The are is close to the university so you will see a lot of students around the area. The area feels very safe and the hotel is just a few steps from the Spaccanapoli street. The hotel is a bit difficult to find at first but ask for the directions from the hotel, they are very helpful. The hotel is located in the 4th floor of a residential building but no worries, there is a lift (very small but still there is one). The rooms are very simple and small but clean and at least we had air conditioning. The view from the room is to a courty yard. The hotel is very cute inside, they have nice paintings on the walls and in the room. There is no breakfast served in the hotel but you can find nice coffee shops close by. They have wifi but it is not that great (typical in Italy). The staff was nice and helpful.
Just be sure that you get a receipt for everything you pay for. We had to pay the tourist fee twice because the staff member did not remember to make a note on the first time and when we were leaving he did not believe us when we told that we had paid for it already (we did not feel like starting a fight over 6 euros).
But overall a very good hotel! :-)

Excellent hotel in the heart of historic Naples. The staff was very friendly and informative. The area was safe and easy to get to at night. Everything is walking distance from the hotel. Great value stay if your visiting Napoli for a short period of time.
