We chose this hotel because it is so close to the train station and we were going south to Calabria - my husband had stayed before and vetted it for me. The first stop was an overnight in a room that was average and street side - quiet noisy and just ok - but on the return home after a very late train ride that was 3 hours delayed from bad weather - we tumbled in and they nicely upgraded us to a suite - which was lovely! The area around this hotel is a bit older but the people are all friendly and there are lots of stops for coffee and pastries and if you are there for dinner there is a great pizza place just around the corner. All of the staff are friendly and helpful - the first room wasn't quite as clean as I liked (floor needed cleaning) but the bathroom was large and clean and the bed was clean. The suite however was beautiful and it actually opened onto a side street so the traffic noise was a lot less - they have a buffet breakfast included and it is fine with a mix of pastries, bread, fruit, meats. Most of the "characters" hang out in front of the train station but if you pay attention to your surroundings you'll be fine!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that isn't in the very front of the hotel

Chose hotel because it is close to train station. Had to walk past/over 2 people passed out on the sidewalk. Garbage everywhere. Once inside the hotel, the front desk was polite and checked us right in. Got to the room and noticed dusty dirty floors, long black hairs in the bath tub, etc. Our room overlooked a courtyard that was very very noisy at night. We were out the next day and when we returned the room had been cleaned but the maid did not leave any glasses to drink from. Went down to the restaurant and got a couple. The breakfast was a pleassant surprise and quite good. Wi fi did not work on my device. Computer in the lobby also did not want to connect me to my email carrier..maybe me? I believe wi fi was free for an hour and then you have to pay. Having said all this, we would stay again because of the location. Also, I did not feel afraid at any time. Even when I went to the train station in the dark while my husband checked out

Dear Patrick,

Thank you for sending your review through TA.

First of all we do apologize for any inconvenience that you experienced with your room: if you had spoken with our reception desk, they would have helped you and solved everything.

With reference to Internet service we just point out that, sometimes, our antivirus system disables the connection to some e-mail carrier.

We are happy that you appreciated our breakfast, always very rich and various and most of all that you noticed how good our location is: this is simply ideal for anyone who wants to spend some days exploring Naples and its main touristic attractions even on foot.

We invite you to come back at the Grand Hotel Europa and we suggest you to book one of our junior suites dedicated to “bassi napoletani”, where you can breath the typical Neapolitan atmosphere also during the night....

Kindest regards from Naples and many wishes of Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all our staff!

We stay in Naples at least twice a year.travelling from Calabria by train and staying overnight before flying back home so we are used to the area around the station.True it is grubby but feels no more dangerous than any other mayor city.If you want to stay near to the station, this hotel is a gem.The location is ideal-out of the side gate of the station(near to the left luggage),turn right, cross the road and you are there.
We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful and the decor is charming although according to your taste the art work is a little quirky. The rooms are well decorated and I would certainly recommend trying to get one on the second floor in the vic europa corridor.

A special mention for the restaurant. We decided to try the set menu. The food was excellent and very good value for money, the service was efficient and the waiter very friendly. In fact from the reception staff,to all the restaurant staff(both evening and morning) and the bar staff, everyone was friendly and helpful.I have been visiting Italy at least three times a year for the past eight year so know that this is not always the case.Breakfast was the typical italian breakfast.
Scratch beneath the grubby appearance Naples has so much to offer,it is such a vibrant city although the driving and traffic is nearly the worse I have ever seen .

Dear guest,

Thank you for your lovely comment on TA!
We are happy that you found your stay at Grand Hotel Europa so good.
All our rooms have paintings on the wall and are decorated in accord to different themes, in order to make each of them original in its style.
We are also delighted that you appreciated our restaurant, which offers typical Neapolitan dishes, and we thank you for your nice words dedicated to our staff, which works every day only to make our guests holidays unforgettable.
Our hotel - due to its proximity to central station and the main bus stops- is perfect located to
visit Naples and its surroundings.
As you mentioned in your review, our position just in front of the train station exit is ideal to avoid to cross Piazza Garibaldi for reaching us.
We hope you’ll choose again Grand Hotel Europa next time you will be in Naples!
Warmest regards from our entire staff and best wishes of a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year's Eve!

Stayed for 7 nights during October. Chose the hotel because of its proximity to the station, therefore easy access to Pompeii, Herculaneum, etc. Read all the reviews beforehand and was a bit worried about the location. However, if you're reasonably streetwise and act confidently you're unlikely to find trouble. Basically, if you look like a victim, you're more likely to become one!!

The hotel itself is smart and the staff really helpful. The room we had was at the front, had a small balcony, was large enough without being cavernous, and the shutters and curtains shut out all of the light and most of the noise.

Breakfast was good quality with a good choice, but did become rather monotonous after a few days. Had dinner there just one night - good, but better value to be found elsewhere in the city.

Overall, I'd have no hesitation recommending this hotel, but next time in Naples I'd probably select a more picturesque location.

This hotel is a quaint hotel in a terrible area. The staff was easy to deal with and the food great. The hotel is just 1/2 block away from the main train station. Unfortunately the area surrounding the train station is very seedy and very dirty. Traffic is ruled by the attitude of only the brave get there. There is nothing to really see around the hotel. You are better off staying in or around Sorrento Italy. Please don't misunderstand, this is a very nice hotel for a decent price. It is just in a terrible place.

Dear guest,

Thank you for sending your comment through Tripadvisor!

We are really happy that during your stay at the Grand Hotel Europa you appreciated our staff as well as our dinner service: the chef cooks everyday traditional Neapolitan dishes.

The hotel is conveniently located near the central station and the bus terminal in order to explore Naples and its surroundings easily. With reference to any inconvenience due to the location, we would like to point out that you will find same problems in any other hotel close to the central station in any other big city of the world.

Hoping to welcoming you back soon at our hotel, maybe in one of new junior suites inspirated to the typical Neapolitan streets, we remain with our best personal regards.

This hotel is an average place with small, but clean rooms. The area is awful, dirty and very noisy. The advantage for us was that we were just passing through Naples and needed a place convenient for travel. It is also a great price. This is within two blocks of the main train terminal so we were able to walk over on arrival with luggage in tow without any trouble and then walk back in the morning to grab a taxi to the port. But this is really it's only advantage. We ate dinner there as we did not want to go out into the streets after dark and the food was just ok, Service wise, the waiter only put in two of the four entree orders. When we tried to sraighten it out, he brought the piece of paper he had written the order on over to the table and shoved it in our faces. Since we already knew he had missed writting the other two down, this was not helpful and was rude. It took an hour to get the other two entrees. On a different note, the front desk staff was lovely.

Stayed here for 2 nights and regretted the decision. The hotel was nice enough but the staff were uninterested in helping if we had questions, as if they were doing us a favor. The room was big and ok and breAkfast was not as plentiful as others. They only provided 1 hr of free wifi. Though it is conveniently located near the station, I would advise not to stay here as it did not appear safe. We took care not to stay out late. If staying in Naples, better to stay further away from the railway station area.

Dear guest,

First of all thank you for sending your review through Tripadvisor.

We are deeply sorry that your stay at our hotel was not satisfying. In particular, with reference to your words about our staff, we feel very surprised: usually is our entire staff very helpful with all our guests as the main purpose of their job is to assure them a pleasant stay at the Grand Hotel Europa.

Concerning to our location we would highlight that the hotel is located in a secondary street compared to Piazza Garibaldi: so there isn’t any reason to feel unsafe.

Warmest regards from Naples!
