“Very good hotel near the Main Station”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

We chose this hotel due to its vicinity of Naples' Main Station. So every trip to destinations like Herculaneum, Amalfi Coast, Capri etc. was easily and quickly accessible. Also the Airport bus stops nearby - it would be VERY hard to get there using your own car and finding a parking possibility. The hotel itself is very good, silent during night, clean, good breakfast, nice personnel... sometimes suffering from loud and partying school classes, though.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms to the main street, probably loud already early in the morning as it faces the Main Stat...

Dear guest,

First of all thank you for writing us your review on Tripadvisor.

We are happy that you spent a nice stay at our hotel and that you appreciated our rich and various breakfast as well as our kind staff.

As mentioned in your post, our hotel has an ideal location to visit Naples easily and to catch the Circumvesuviana train to Amalfi, Pompeii and the ferries to the islands.

We hope to welcoming you back at Grand Hotel Europa as soon as possible.
Warmest regards!

I have booked the hotel when I was in a rush using trivago.com and according to the rating and the pictures there.
It is a 3 star hotel but I have been to hostels that are way better. The pillowcase was broken. The closet stank of mould and the base near the fridge was filthy.

The breakfast was a joke, so if you really need to go there get a room without breakfast.
We had free wi-fi, but probably because they didn't feel right to make people pay for something that doesn't work. I used my 3g mobile connection to connect. The few times we were able to use their wifi (probably when there were not many guests) the connection was so slow that it felt like we were back in the 90s again.
The stuff was nice and it is pretty much the only nice thing I can say about the ho(s)tel.
According to the people that I saw there, it actually gave me the idea of a non-youth hostel.
If you are on a budget, consider that we asked our colleagues that were staying in a 4star hotel on Corso Umberto I and they paid as much as we did. To be fair our colleagues didn't have breakfast included, but considering the breakfast we wish we didn't either.

Room Tip: do not select twins bed if you have picked a double: they gave us a very narrow room with two singl...

Dear Guest,

thank you for sending your review on Tripadvisor.

We are really sorry that your stay at the Grand Hotel Europa was not so pleasant and most of all we are surprised to read that you found your room not so comfortable and that you didn't like our breakfast.

Usually are customers very satisfied with our breakfast, rich and various, and our food in general- as you can read from many reviews published on Tripadvisor, where the guests often give a special mention for the restaurant and its excellent food....-

Furthermore we do apologize for the problems you experienced with wi-fi connection but they were due to some manteinance works made in those days by TELECOM, italian telephone line manager, in the whole neighborhood.

We do hope to welcoming you again to the Grand Hotel Europa in order to show you that even little problems you noticed have been solved also thanks to your comments.

Best regards!

I just came back from a 3-night stay at Grand Hotel Europa in Naples. I was there with a couple of friends and we had rooms with twin beds.

In general, the hotel is very good. The rooms are quite big, unlike a lot of other hotels in Naples, the location is great if you need to be near the train station, and they have a great breakfast. I just loved it, but of course, that is very subjective. They had delicious croissants made on the spot, some pastry with spinach (I think) and sausage, salami, ham, cheese, cereals, yogurts.

Small inconvenients:

- beds were very small. I almost fell out of bed at some point. I am thin, but other people might have problems.

- there was just a simple sheet to cover oneself, and there were blankets in the closet. So no flat sheet to put the blanket inside. During the night I was waking up several times because the blanket was heavy and it would slide off and I would be left covered only with the sheet. It was very inconfortable for me.

- the orange juice at breakfast was ok except for one morning when they added a lot of water in the tank (they probably ran out of juice, but should have just left it like that) and it tasted horribly (like it was water with a little bit of juice added, not the other way around).

Other than these 3 things, I liked the hotel. Free wi-fi and maps were also pluses.

On foot:

3 minutes to Train Station
20 minutes to the middle of the old center
1 hour to Casel dell'Ovo

Some say that the train station area is horrible and not safe, but I honestly did not see that. Yes, maybe it's a bit more messy than the rest of the city, but there is lot of garbage on the streets in other areas too, this is Naples, what can I say, it's crazy city :) Naples is definitely not a destination for everyone, some will not like it at all.

Stayed here for 4 nights in May. The hotel is not in the best area of Naples but it is easy to reach from the station and once there it is very clean and comfortable. The reception staff, well in fact, all of the staff in the hotel were welcoming and friendly.
The room was quite a way from reception and overlooked an internal courtyard - we were initially disappointed that we didn't have more of a "street view" but soon realised this was a godsend as the room was very quiet.
There is a tv with limited channels, aircon and minibar and a very small safe but there was no extra charge for this.
The breakfast was nice and we did enjoy the fixed price menu one evening a reasonable 18 euros.

We were there for two nights April 2014. Two nights too long. While it is conveniently located near the train station, it is also located in what appeared to be the worst place in town. We did not dare venture out after dark. To scared. We had booked a room for four and were given a small room in the corner with bunk beds that looked as if they came from an abandoned cruise ship. The other two beds were old couches. We couldn't wait for our two days to be over. We requested a cab the night before we were to leave. Paid in advanced and asked for a large cab to accommodate four plus our luggage. The man at the front desk understood our request, so we thought. The day of our departure we went to the lobby before 6 a.m. The front doors were locked down, gated. A staff member that had been sleeping came from around the corner to check us out. He then said our taxi had arrived and escorted us out through a side door. He locked the door behind us and there we were, in the dark, on the street and no taxi. We were obviously concerned for our safety. Finally our cab arrives, a FIAT, when we had specifically asked for a larger cab. We had a plane to catch, so after several attempts to fit our luggage in the trunk, and after the driver breaking off the wheels to our suitcases in his many attempts to squeeze our luggage in, we were left with no other option then to drive with our huge luggage on our laps. A total nightmare! And don't get me started on the horrible breakfast they offer. Never again Naples and never again hotel.

The staff at the front desk let us leave our luggage in the hotel even after we had checked out, because our train was cancelled due to a national strike (ah, Italy). But they really helped make our one night stay in Napoli feel safe.
