“Avoid Naples at all costs”
Reviewed 26 August 2012

We arrived in Naples late at night, and were greeted by mountains of rubbish as far as the eye could see. This is a filthy, filthy city. The Hotel Garibaldi is located in one of the most seedy areas of Naples, right near the train station. Our air conditioning did not work and the internet connection was weak. Stay here if you must stay in Naples, then get out.

For all you non-smokers, this hotel is a smoking hotel with smoking allowed everywhere including in the rooms. Consequently the first room we had was quite malodorous. While this place is in the area near the station, it was easy to get to and the guys at the desk were really great, especially Dia and the other young gentleman who checked us it. Unfortunately we were not given a twin room straight off but they did move us the next day. Breakfast is included but was a bit uncomfortable with at least three staff standing around the little bar when there were only two of us in there eating. The hotel offers wifi but this is only available if you are near the front desk. There was a "free wifi" available that did not belong to the hotel but we took advantage of that however even this wasn't available in the room. They were kind enough to let us sit in the breakfast area to use the wifi but this was a bit uncomfortable as people often went in there to eat and smoke, use the toilet and make coffee. My main complaint about Hotel Garibaldi was the fact that the rooms were not clean, especially the bathroom. Having worked in hospitality for many years I have a thing about hotel room cleanliness. In the first room there was hair everywhere...sink, shower, walls, toilet. A real no no in a hotel room. The second room was slightly better but still not hairfree! We were at this hotel for 5 nights and I am well aware that we had the second class rooms - the rooms on the side of the street, with the promised balconies, were large and spacious. Both our rooms were on the tight side. At the rate we paid we really shouldn't complain but it would be so easy to have made this hotel absolutely first rate.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking Via Mancini seem to be biggest and with lovely balconies.

Excellent service at this hotel - we stayed one night at the end of a trip of the area.
I would agree with most of the other reviews here about the excellent level of service provided to guests. The hotel was clean, air-con worked well, perhaps not the most modern hotel, but for the price and for what it was trying to be, it succeeds very well.
Make sure you get a taxi (a.k.a. roller-coaster ride) down to the port for dinner, as suggested by the reception staff. It gives you a different view of the city.
I couldn't help feeling that Naples could be a much nicer place if only they got rid of all the garbage everywhere!

This was the best hotel we had in four cities! The Giacobbe family, Papa Rosario, sons Enzo and Carmine treated us like family. Enzo welcomed us with a big smile and a tour of the hotels 12 rooms. We loved our room. It was very clean and quiet! The hotel is very modern, with rich woods and has a 'home' feel. We loved the breakfasts Carmine made us each day and the fact that they spoke perfect English. We had planned to stay one night and we stayed FIVE nights! It is the perfect hotel to explore the area, from Capri to Pompeii!

Room Tip: Make sure you see the room before checking in!

Stayed here for 2 nights in April - had 2 rooms each with a balcony - they were clean, spacious and comfortable. Naples is one of those places that you visit knowing it will be fast, grotty and full of colour. Yes, there are markets right outside the doors, but the windows are double glazed and we had no problem with noise. We actually enjoyed strolling the markets and nabbed some fabulous bargains. The hotel does smell of cigarette in the foyer and stairwell, but we had no problem in the rooms. We found all the staff to be friendly and helpful. We wanted somewher near Garibaldi station as we were backpacking and didn't want to be walking for ages from or to the trains. Easy trip up to Pompeii from the hotel. Dinner at the Iris restaurant on the left hand side of Garibaldi square as you exit the station, was very good value and tasty.

Hotel was good - value for money - but unfortunately in a horrendous area in terms of cleanliness. Having said that it did not seem as a dangerous as people made the area sound like. It just has too much filth around coupled with unwanted elements it just unnerves you. It is good if you arrive late in the evening by bus and have to catch the train the next morning otherwise not a recommended area at all. However the staff and hotel were good. Would I stay there again - yes only if I arrived at 9 pm and had to leave before ( am the next morning so you actually don't see the surroundings.

Hello, well here are my 2 cents of opinion regarding this place, i book a 3 night stay in this hotel back in 2010 on a trip with friends, upon our arrival to begin with the location\area looks like a dumpster very trashy, graffiti everywhere, not safe to walk around at night!
the rooms were small not enough space to move around, bad viewing. overall i had an unpleasant stay, the only advantage of this location is that the main train station is only a 5 minute walk away...
