“A solid hotel with great access to downtown Naples”
Reviewed 6 December 2013

We stayed at the Hotel Nuvo for a few nights this spring. The rationale behind our choice of the Nuvo was simple: we had a rental car, and we wished to avoid having to drive into downtown Naples at all costs. The Nuvo is easy to reach from the Autostrada, and right next to (literally next to) a rail station that will take you downtown. It also includes parking, though this means handing the keys over to the hotel for them to park.

Given the low price and the locale, we didn't expect much, but were in fact pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and spaciousness of the rooms, as well as the general efficiency of the hotel. The breakfast, while unspectacular, got us going nicely. When it came time to check-out, the staff had already retrieved our car from parking and placed it in front of the hotel - without any reminders from us.

The convenience of the Nuvo is also its main downside. The adjacent rail station means that a fair bit of noise and vibration reaches the rooms starting early in the morning. Light sleepers beware. If that sounds bearable, though, you should find the Nuvo to be a pleasant base from which to head into Naples.

Very clean hotel, linen changed every day. Good selection of food in cold buffet breakfast - cereals, Italian sweet breads, croissants, rolls, cold meats, fruit, cheese, hard boiled eggs, selection of fruit juices, coffee, preserves, toast etc. Be warned though, there is no restaurant so you will need to go out to eat in the evening. Ask the receptionist they will recommend places within walking distance, and give you directions. The pizzeria next to hotel is lovely, but if you want something a bit cheaper and just as good, there is a restaurant called the 2 perle which is a 5 minute walk away. The hotel car park is very small, and you have to hand your keys to reception so they can move your car around as necessary, in order to maximise the space. Unfortunately for us our hire car suffered a minor bump and scrape whilst in Naples, which resulted in us paying a E400 excess. Not entirely convinced that this did not occur whilst parked in the car park by another guest trying to manoeuvre their car????? The hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful. Room we had was a triple bed and was very large. Although there is a train line outside the hotel you would never know it. The sound proofing in the bedrooms was excellent. We never heard a thing, in fact during our 5 day stay we did not experience noise at night at all. Couldn't get hold of an iron from housekeeping staff. May be something that the hotel should consider offering guests? The area in which the hotel is situated is not too far from the motorway and airport, and is slightly out of the city centre, making it easier to drive to.Unfortunately though it is in a bit of a run down part of Naples. We were quite shocked at the amount of grafitti, and litter on the streets that we saw, but this did seem to be a problem through out the city to be fair. We felt quite safe however walking to the restaurants in the evening, as there was always plenty of people out and about. Not a place to spend time relaxing, but ideal as a touring base for Pompeii, Mount Vesuvia, Sorrento and the Amalfi coast. Be prepared for the Italian drivers! Every car has a dent or scrape, they are a law unto themselves so be warned!

We were looking for a hotel that was easy to drive to, because we'd rented a car from Rome and were planning to explore other areas after we'd visited Naples. Hotel Nuvo was perfect--it was fairly easy to get to from the freeway without getting too involved in city traffic. The price was very reasonable for such a nice hotel; the facilities were good, the parking free and the train that went into the heart of the city came often and let us off right where we'd hoped. After a day of exploring the sights, we enjoyed coming back to the hotel and ate at a nearby restaurant which was excellent. I would highly recommend this as good value for a fine hotel.

My wife and I got into Naples to watch a Champions' League match, and we chose Hotel Nuvo based on the distance from the stadium. It turned out that this was a better choice than we could have anticipated - by the Cumana Line, the stadium was only 2 stops and 5 minutes away; and the hotel itself was clean, nice and spacious. Davide at the Front Desk was also very pleasant and gave us excellent service - giving us clear directions to the stadium, and helping us get a cab and ensuring our checkout was smooth and easy.

Just to add more information for people who may want to stay here - the hotel is in Fuorigrotta, which is not near the central area of Naples, and a cab ride to the Napoli Centrale station will cost about 25 Euros. As highlighted by other reviewers, there isn't much in the way of sights or food in the area; not a problem if you're prepared of course.

Over many years my experience of Italian hotels has not been all that positive. This is an example of what can be done for a modest tariff in a hugely stimulating city. The Nuvo offers spacious rooms, an extremely courteous and helpful staff, a very fine breakfast, free and safe parking and excellent access to the centre of Naples. The restaurant next door served us a very good meal for not very much money. If you are visiting Naples with a car you will find parking a major problem and the traffic often so busy that it is difficult to get anywhere at all quickly. Staying at the Nuvo enables you to park your car safely and use the public train system, which is cheap and easy to navigate.

We were a family of four from India and we booked at Hotel Nuvo after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor and we were not one bit disappointed. The hotel was a little away from the city centre, but it was very elegant and had a lot of charm. There was also a train station very close to the hotel so travel was not a problem. The walk back however was a little longer, but helps burn off all the extra calories after all that delicious food! Talking about food, there was a marvellous pizza place just opposite the hotel, where we had some amazing Pizzas, out in the open and which had a friendly buzz to it .The breakfast at the hotel was more than adequate and the people managing the breakfast were very cheerful and helpful. We used to look forward to the Cappucinos every morning.I would also like to comment on the helpfulness of the front desk staff , especially David whom we saw the most at the desk when we were there. He helped us to organize our trip to Pompei as well as helped us to order a birthday cake for my daughter(which was a surprise for her). He introduced us to Mr Lucio, who had a car service and is known to the hotel and helped us to fix the fare for a day trip to Pompei and Sorrento as well as shorter drops within the city. Our trip to Pompei and Sorrneto with Mr Lucio was very memorable, where at our request we got to listen to some contemporary Italian music, which we liked so much that on our return, he presented the disc to our daughter. We were really touched by his gesture as well as the hospitality we enjoyed at the hotel. We will certainly stay there if we ever return to Naples. Thank you all for making our stay so lovely.

Room Tip: I would recommend room number 14, where we stayed, if you need a room with 4 beds.

Theres not much wrong with this hotel, the room was very nice, the view was also good. The breakfast selection was very good. The staff was very friendly and spoke good english. It was easy to find, and the parking on site was excellent. My only complaint, is that there was not many places to eat within walking distance. Notwithstanding the above, if we were ever to stay in naples again, we would probably stay there again.
