A short read of reviews of this property shows sharp contrasts of opinion. There is a difference between being booked in by a tour operator and/or choosing the hotel as part of a travel or sightseeing tour with definite objectives. This place is not a "holiday hotel". It is not for sunning or bathing. However it is the ideal place for seeing things & above all, LIFE in the historical center
of Naples. First of all ASK for room 210. This is a large double with a balcony, french doors, a
sitting area and is airconditioned and QUIET. The great column in the little square and the close proximity of the wall, tower and dome of the St. Gennaro church are stunning. The great cathedral of Naples is round the corner. There is a Caravaggio painting in the museum across the
via Tribunal (which runs past the hotel.) A great Donatello marble altarpiece is 200 yards away.
Via Tribunal is an official open air museum with historic buildings, outrageous driving patterns,
oblivious smartphone-addicted pedestrians, clusters of young and old talking and flirting and wheeling and dealing in the street without sidewalks....
The hotel breakfast is adequate. Milk, water and various juices in plenty. A number of cold cuts. Yellow cheese, hard boiled eggs, FRESH rolls and croissants, jams, honey, butter and crackers. No Fruit or veggies. Luciano makes a good cappucino on request. Free Wifi works best near the reception: The 16th century thick stone walls are beyond the capacity of the wifi to penetrate!!! Valentino will set it up, speaks English and is helpful and well versed in the info about his city.
The restaurants in the local streets are renowned for their wonderful local specialities. Mostly family-run, with generous helpings and taste "like Mama cooked". The local wines are inexpensive and "real good".
This is the place to stay in for the sights, smells and delicious ethnic cuisine of the real Naples and its very special population, its art & religious monuments and for the sheer joy of being there.
