Best Western Hotel Plaza
Ranked #60 of 185 Hotels in Naples
Reviewed 28 October 2007

The Best Western Hotel Plaza is the only clean spot in the entire city of Naples which is in itself an outdoor spetic tank.
The rooms are clean and the staff is helpful. Don't expect more because that's it!
Breakfast is the usual pastry, weak coffee, sour orangejuice and some glop the Europeans adore. A cross between yogurt and sour cream.
Beyond the stoop of the Best Western it's a sea of litter, piled up garbage, gloom, despair and graffiti.
The filthy train station is about 6 blocks of slums away with the poorest citizens north of the Congo.

You'll feel safe in the Best Western Hotel Plaza but you'll never forget Naples, and that's a fact.

Do not expect to get what you booked and paid for at this hotel. We booked a superior room with a king size and single bed room through Best Western with their internet special and paid in full without refund. The first room we were shown was very small with a double and a camp bed squeezed in, we asked for what we ordered they kept us in our room for an hour till I complained again, they then showed us 3 other rooms till we got a proper single bed but again the room had a double bed and was small. I asked to speak to the manager who was not in but I spoke to him on the phone he said he would show me other rooms. His staff carefully showed me rooms on the 2nd and 4th floor which were exactly the same no superior room or king size bed. I said I would complain to Best Western which I did. They said it was not their problem as all their hotels are independantly run, but it is on the Best Western website. As the website says the hotel has King and Queen size beds so who is lying. This hotel also does not have a restaurant as advertised. We also had to wait 24hrs for Tea and coffee which was never replaced. We also had to ask for more toilet rolls and finally only one call girl operating outside we had 3 but this is Italy. Do not trust this hotel or Best Western

After reading the Tripadvisor reviews, I expected this hotel to be far better than it was. We travelled from Rome to Pompeii and stayed at this hotel because it was close to the train station before we departed to Amalfi. This hotel is definitely a budget hotel, 2 stars at most. The room and shower were extremely small and uncomfortable, the service was sub-par, and the hotel offered no real ammenities. We chose this hotel because it had a restaurant and we didn't want to have to walk around the train station area at night, which was incredibly seedy. However, the restaurant was never open while we were there, forcing us to walk to a restaurant nearby, which were few and far between. After a long day of sightseeing, this hotel offered no comfort. Naples as a whole is not very inviting, especially the train station area. If could do it over, I would have taken a train closer to Amalfi for the night and have avoided Naples altogether.

I stayed at the BW Hotel Plaza in early October 2007. The hotel itself is acceptable while the area, and all of Naples for that matter, is full of litter and trash. While the hotel is nice with a very convenient location near (walking distance with luggage) the main train station, there is no reason whatsoever to stay in Naples when the town of Sorrento is only 1 hour away. The only good thing about Naples is the Musuem where they take what's unearthed from Pompeii and put it on display. Naples itself is dirty, crowded, noisy, crime-ridden and really has no redeming positive attributes. That being said, if looking for a Naples hotel this one is just fine - the room I had, on the second floor, had double pane windows that really kept out the street noise. I've stayed at other hotels that had the same type of window but still let in the noise, here, for some reason, the installation was done correctly. It's close to the train station, relatively cheap (cheapest on my 3 week Italian vacation) and there was a safe in the room. Breakfast, served on the roof was acceptable but not overly generous in its' selection and quantity.

The bads; location was dirty, noisy and from the balcony all I saw was the laundry of the apartment building across the street. The room was an acceptable size but the shower stall was amazingly small and I barely fit in through the doors. Also, you were required to return the room key when leaving, not the most secure of arrangements which might explain the room safe and the front desks' strong recommentation that it be used. There is an Internet PC in the lobby for 5 Euros/hour.

All in all really not a bad hotel. It was clean, quiet and I would recommend it if staying in Naples but would strongly suggest staying in Sorrento instead.

Greeted on arrival by sole member of staff. Therefore no-one on bar duty - we never did find anyone manning the bar, despite the fact that one night there were 6 people behind the front desk!

Asked for the "coffee making machine" which took two days to arrive and was a kettle, 2 teabags and 2 coffee sachets. When we returned that night the dirty cups were still there, but we had to go ask for more supplies. An hour later a member of staff arrived with a cup of tea, a cup of coffee and tried to remove the kettle. Eventually he left us some sachets. During our 8 day stay the cups were never washed, we took teabags from the (lovely) restaurant and bought a jar of coffee and some milk ourselves.

The floor was never swept and the potentially lovely balcony, which gave us a birds' eye view of the callgirls in the Piazza below, was plastered with pigeon droppings.

The restaurant had to be booked in advance and we only saw one lunch and one dinner menu.

Doesn't deserve 3 stars as it promised much more than it actually delivered.

The hotel is just around the corner from the train station but a bit out of the way for most sites. The room was great though... Spotlessly clean, good beds, mini-bar and I was lucky enough to have a little balcony overlooking the street. There is an upstairs atrium where they serve breakfast and some cute foodie shops nearby.

Hotel was only walking distance from train station (about 5-10 mins). However, we took 20 mins to find the hotel due to traffic in Naples. Naples was the most messy city we went during our Italy trip. Hotel was pretty good. We could check in early (about 12 plus). The room was bit small. The guest lift was out of order so we need to took another lift which was old and very small. Breakfast was in the roof and Its well atmosphere there. If i stay in Naples, I would definitely stay there again. However, I didnt think I would ever go to Naples again.
