“Spacious Apartment in Historic Centre”
Reviewed 25 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We stayed at the apartment for 5 nights last week (2 adults and 2 teenage children) and would recommend it. The apartment is in the historic centre of Naples overlooking Piazza San Domenica Maggiore on Spaccanapoli, the main walking route through the historic centre.

The owner Claudia dealt with our booking quickly and effectively – the apartment was booked through TA.

We took a taxi from the airport and Claudia met us at the apartment with welcome drinks and snacks. Some bread, biscuits and crackers were provided. Despite the building being old, there is a lift in the courtyard. The apartment is large with plenty of space. There are two reception rooms decorated with old paintings, statues, a piano (sadly out of tune), etc, a small but well stocked kitchen, a dining room, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The apartment has very tall ceilings, the dining room ceiling is beautifully painted. All of the fixtures and fittings were to a good standard. Note that there is no washing machine. There is free wifi with a 500MB daily limit. Claudia provided a mobile phone for us to contact her with any questions.

The apartment looks out over Piazza san Domenica Maggiore, which as other reviewers have noted is lively. The first night, the music from a nearby bar was pretty loud, but other nights we didn’t notice it. The apartment has wooden shutters which block out quite a bit of the noise. However, if you are light sleeper, I would say this apartment is probably not for you.

The location of the apartment is great for covering the sights in central Naples. The historic centre is all within walking distance, numerous churches and the San Severo chapel with the Veiled Christ within 2 minutes walk. The National Archeological Museum is also within walking distance (about 15 minutes). There are plenty of places to eat on Spaccanapoli and in the Piazza del Gesu. There is a Carrefour Express supermarket within 5 minutes walk. The apartment is about 10 minutes walk from the metro station at Piazza Dante. You can also easily walk to the funicular railway at Montesanto to get to Castel Sant Elmo.

Claudia also organized a car tour of the Amalfi coast taking in Sorrento, Positano, Furore, Amalfi and Ravello. Although this is a long day, this is highly recommended and is a great way to get a taster for the various towns. We did day trips by public transport to Vesuvius and Pompeii.

Note that Naples is a lot grittier than some other Italian cities that we have visited – there seemed to be more graffiti on the buildings and peddlers on the streets. My wife got doused with a bucket of water by some teenagers on a passing moped on our last night. However, whilst we were more alert to street crime, aside from the above incident, we did not experience any problems. Despite this, Naples is well worth a visit.

“A valued experience.”
Reviewed 23 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

DOMUS DECUMANA is a beautifully restored and decorated apartment run by the highly efficient, friendly and helpful Claudia (whose grasp of the english language is a real bonus).

The accomodation is spacious, clean and well equipped with bedding, towels and crockery. The apartment contains the most beautiful ceiling decorations, the walls are adorned with interesting paintings and the rooms contain antique collectibles and books -there is even a piano in the main sitting room!

The location, overlooked from the large floor to ceiling windows, is a lively, vibrant, predominantly 17th C. PIAZZA SAN DOMENICO MAGGIORE, situated slap-bang in the middle of Naples and in walking distance of what the CENTRO HISTORICO has to offer for lovers of history, architecture, archaeology and shopping not to mention pizza, pasta, pastries and prosecco!

Unfortunately the lack of kitchen space is not for those of us who enjoy cooking and the main sitting area could be a far more social room if there was a second sofa or comfy arm-chair. The lack of a washing machine may also be a problem if staying for more than a week.....

Having said that, I would definitely stay there again.

“Lovely apartment In a fantastic location with an amazing host”
Reviewed 10 June 2014 for a stay in May 2014

The photos truly tell the story of how beautiful the rooms in the palazzo are. Windows all look out onto the piazza which changes day and night and is great for people-watching. We stayed 6 nights and used Naples as a base for the Amalfi, the Islands and Pompeii etc. We loved the life and food of Naples itself and are keen to return. Claudia's communication about the apartment, arrival details etc, was consistently excellent. She has great English and a very warm manner. She offered information, advice and suggestions, lent us a phone to keep in touch with her and even managed to organise a house call from a doctor . She also arranged a most amazing day driving down the coast and visiting the Amalfi towns. While the noise from the piazza some nights is loud and the kitchen is small, this was the most beautiful apartment of our whole month in Italy and the best host.

“Lovely apartment with balcony overlooking a lively square”
Reviewed 19 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

This was a beautiful old apartment; the rooms have amazingly high ceilings and most of the decoration is that of a real old Italian townhouse. Claudia was very helpful and efficient, and was there to greet us and to bid us farewell, but did not intrude. The location is as central as you can get, and we loved looking out over the square, with its cafes, gaggles of students and dog walkers.

The only two drawbacks were that the square was very noisy on one of the nights, and the kitchen though fine for us was too small to make a big meal in.

“Old Napoli Elegance”
Reviewed 13 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

Go to Naples and stay in this apartment. You will find it in one of the palaces surrounding the bustling Piazza San Domenico Maggiore. Claudia, who is so helpful, was watching for us from the balcony when we got out of the taxi and welcomed us to this very large and modern apartment. It looks like some elegant owner had just stepped out for a moment; with the art, books and charm under soaring, decorated ceilings all in place.

Perfectly located for exploring the excitement of Napoli!

“Great apartment in historic Naples”
Reviewed 13 January 2014 for a stay in January 2014

We stayed for 5 nights in the apartment. It is very well located, in historic Naples, 5 minutes from the subway and in the middle of a very lively square with lots of restaurants and touristic shops. The apartment is like a palace, with very high and decorated ceilings, lots of space and an interesting layout. Claudia, the owner, was very helpful and available. The only problem was the noise at night. But it seemed to only bother me out of 4 people. The square is only quiet in the early morning.
I highly recommend it .
