“Great rooms, ok location, poor service”
Reviewed 9 February 2012

We stayed at Hotel Albergo del Golfo in July, 2012. We took a triple sharing room. The room was great. It was large with a TV and lots of cupboard space a small balcony. The bathroom was a good size compared to what one gets in Italy. A newly renovated hotel. The location wasn't bad, it was a 15min walk to the main station and a 10min walk to the pier where one can catch ferries to Capri etc. The fort was also 15-20min walk. The area was quiet and out of the hustle bustle of Naples. But safe. Our room was inclusive of breakfast. But the breakfast was complete trash. One Croissant, horrible coffee. We spent 2 nights here. Both times they ran out of food. We got 2 croissants to be shared amongst 3 people. So I would not recommend the breakfast. Right next to the hotel there was a small shop run by an old lady, which served water, beer etc., which was dirt cheap. The lady herself was extremely sweet. The person on the reception was rude, and provided no help what so ever. He just did not seem interested. The staff was sparse and not service oriented. There was free wifi, but to avail the facility, one had to really argue with the person on the reception.
I would recommend the rooms and the location for the price but the service and breakfast was atrocious.

Room Tip: Do not take the room with breakfast. The room itself was very nice.

Excellent value for money. Have been twice in this hotel and will return. Recently this hotel hosted my group of forty six people for two nights. Everyone was surprised. Such a small hotel with such an elegant spacious clean and modern rooms. Breakfast is moderate but very good. Everyone complimented the management and staff who were attentive for every single detail and need of our stay there. Dont get a negative impression as soon as you arrive in the street. It's narrow and shadowy. The facade of the hotel is undergoing restoration. As soon as you step into the hotel, you feel better. As soon as you enter the corridors and room, you' ll feel like being in a five star hotel. The location is in the heart of historic Naples within walking distance to all points of interest.
The photos on the hotel's website are real. Other hotels presented excellent photos but disastrous lodging.
A very sincere grazie e complimenti to the staff and management at Albergo del Golfo. My next stay in Naples alone or with a group will surely be at Albergo del Golfo. An excellent value for money. Try it and you'll know what I mean!

We found this hotel to be clean, spacious and in a good location. However, we were very disappointed iun the service provided by the older Italian man who appeared to be the manager. He gave us a very hard time about our reservation, including calling us numerous times on the day of our arrival to verify if we were coming. He then hassled one of our party who had forgotten his passport, even though we had not been told that having a passport was necessary. He so misled us about our reservation options, then refusing to let us change our reservation once we arrived. Finally, he charged a 50 euro deposit to our credit card without telling us beforehand or explaining why, despite the arrangement to pay the entire bill in cash. It's a shame that a hotel with such potential could be ruined by poor customer service and the power trip of a manager.

This is a decent hotel at good value. The interior is tidy and has some quite classy touches with the rooms spacious.

The location is good on one hand, located within the historic centre; but bad on the other, on a slightly shady side street.

The hotel lacks services - there is a bar, but it appears to be dormant and the rooms miss basic facilities like a kettle and a few hot drink supplies.

Still, for a well placed cheap night in the city this is a good pick.

Initially from the reviews I didn't think this hotel would be great, but it ended up being surprisingly incredible!
Location - in historic center, felt rather safe. Walking distance from the port if you're going to an island. 10€ taxi to main train station.
10 minute walk to Via Tribunali which is one of the main streets with the best restaurants.
We were 3 and they put us in a 4 person bedroom. Enormous! Very clean, good air-conditioning, rather hi-tech. Definitely recommend it.
Breakfast is simple but good.

My girlfriend and I decided to stay one night in Napoli on our way to the Amalfi coast. We stayed at this hotel, and like everyone else says: don't be scared of the neighborhood and the facade. The hotel is a very modern, well-designed 3-star hotel, with great facilities and big rooms. The double-room we stayed in, was the biggest I've seen, in a 3-star hotel.
As i said, it is well-designed and the interieur is very stilish - with great lightnings, beautiful materials and very elegant. So it does not complement the very untasteful facade.
There is no parking near the hotel, but they have a agreement with a parking garage nearby, for 20 euro per 24 hours. I would STRONGLY recommend to park in a garage and NOT on the streets if you have a new car - car thefts is a great problem in the Napoli region, and we got our Fiat 500 rental car stolen during the night.
If you don't have anything specifically to do in Napoli, I would recommend not to go there if you're on a road trip. There is nothing spectacular to see in Napoli, the city is chaotic, and full of anarchistic vibes drawn from the decade-long trash problems in Napoli. I didn't really see any trash lying around, but in general the city just looked trashy - dirty, chaotic and not very friendly. You felt unsafe. I've been to a lot of big cities, but Napoli did not look like any of these, just out of control. So save yourself the disappointment, and drive past Napoli. Only positive whas the hotel!

I was a bit worried about the hotel after checking out the street on Google maps but the outside doesn't do it justice. The hotel is clean and modern. The room was spacious. There's a communal balcony on the 3rd floor, which is very pleasant. Breakfasts were basic but that's pretty normal in Italy (and they were sufficient). Most of the reception staff speak English and are very helpful and pleasant. It's in a great location - you can pretty much walk to anything in the city. I'm definitely going to go back to Naples at some point and would have to problem staying here again. Excellent value!
