“Good hotel”
Reviewed 25 September 2009

A nice, clean modern hotel. For some reason, we were upgraded to a suite, which was great. Great bathroom and shower, comfortable bed. Air conditioner was marginal at best but made the air drier than the very humid outside air. Have to pay for internet connection but the breakfast was included and was good.

Piazza Garibaldi is very dirty and we did not find any good restaurants. The restaurants are basically pizza places with some additional dishes. We did not do it, but it is probably best to eat at the UNA restaurant.

It is easy to get from the train station to Pompeii and Herculaneum on a train called Circumvesuviana. Somewhat less convenient to get to the Archaeological Museum. The hotel is a ten minute walk across the square from the train station. There is a frequent bus, Alibus, from the train station to the airport.

This hotel is very close to the main train station however the area is sketchy. When we arrived there was quite a bit of construction going on around the train area and there was a garbage strike. When you exit the train station, you can easily spot the hotel across the Piazza but the area is busy, noisy and full of cars and buses and it was an obstacle course walking there with our luggage in tow. We stayed one night and only as a starting point for a day trip to Pompeii.

The hotel room was modern, clean and spacious. There were two layers French doors that opened out into the noisy Piazza. The bathroom was very clean and spacious. The buffet breakfast was included which had a large variety of food, eggs, ham, bacon, bread, assortment of pastries, yogurt, fruit, coffee and tea etc. Breakfast is served in their restaurant at the top of the hotel and the terrace was also very nice and peaceful for the morning, away from the noise.

The hotel staff were very nice and helpful. The wifi was not working when we arrived and you do need to pay for either wifi or internet access at their computer terminals, 3 Euros for 30 minutes. We had asked the reception for restaurant suggestion in the area but really it turned out that there were few restaurant choices in the area. We would suggest this hotel only if you were transiting through the city and needed a place to stay near the train station.

Considering the, regrettably, terribly dirty city of Naples this centrally located hotel proved to be our very oasis in town! Clean, airconditioned, tranquile (good windows) despite its location in front of the railway station. Highly recommendable.

Hotel was clean, smart, trendy. Flat screen tv in the room, nice bathrooms, our room overlooked the chaos of the square. If your going to Naples this hotel is an excellent choice.

Sadly you should only go to Naples if you really have to, the city was dirty, never really felt that safe in the city, although did get an awesome pizza in Naples. Traffic is mental and overall the city is simply not that nice, The location is however close to Pompei (3o mins by car) however i would recomend going further down the coast rather than stay in Naples.

If you don't want anything other than manicured lawns, de-thorned rose bushes and schmaltzy cookie cutter bungalows with white picket fences, it's probably best not to leave Wisteria Lane, don't you think?

Housed in an extensively redesigned 19th palazzo, UNA Hotel Napoli is a welcome refuge from the chaotic, gritty energy of Naples. It was by far the best appointed hotel that I stayed at in the Campania region - in some cases, for less than half the price of similar establishments along the Amalfi Coast. The standard room was substantial - approx 25 squares - with a marble bathroom almost that size again. The usual 5 star trappings were to be found including nice touches such as a pillow menu, and integrated panel of air conditioning/lighting controls beside the bed.

The buffet breakfast was decent and can be taken on the roof terrace, overlooking the old part of the city and Vesuvius.

The hotel is right on the Piazza Garibaldi while perhaps not the most picturesque part of Naples is certainly the most convenient for transport to the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii and the surrounds and is by no means dangerous if you eschew dressing in head to toe monogrammed Louis Vuitton adorned with more bling than a gangster rapper.

Very convenient location to the train station, just on the other side of the square from it. Yes, Naples is a dirty city and yes this is not the best area of it, but if you're using Naples as a base to explore Pompeii and Herculaneum as I was then this is perfect as you're right next to the trains departing! If that's not what you want, then this isn't the place for you.

Very nice clean and comfortable rooms, and perfectly friendly staff. The breakfast buffet was decent, and you can eat outside overlooking the city. It's not the most arresting view, but perfectly nice and interesting.

Definitely a good base location and if you're only wanting to quickly see Naples, but if you're actually wanting to see the city properly then you might be better off looking at somewhere in a nicer region. But for me this was perfect, and had no problem with my bill at all which some people had complained about.

We arrived at the UNA and thought we were getting a good deal. I will say that the room itself was nice, but we encountered problems with the air conditioning that the staff was simply unwilling to deal with. They merely brushed us aside. Additionally, we were overcharged at checkout as another poster had mentioned. Honestly, if you're simply coming to Naples for Pompeii and Vesuvius (as we did), I would consider taking a day trip from Rome (though it would make for a LONG day) or moving onward toward Sorrento or Positano. As Naples was the dirtiest city I have encountered in all of Europe, I would avoid it and the UNA if at all possible.
