We stayed in this great hotel for 4 nights when in Naples and found it to be a great experience. We stayed in the annex and were pleasantly surprised at the size of the room (triple room), the décor and the wonderful ladies who looked after us while we were there. They were happy to help us in any way they could. The location is great, walking distance to everything. Breakfast was ample and on the lovely terrace overlooking the inside of the beautiful Galleria. This was one of our favourite hotels during our stay in Italy. My children and I loved our stay and would recommend it to anyone.

Nice vintage hotel in the middle of a cool art gallery mall. Our room was small but decent with murals painted on the ceiling and the walls. Very vintage looking. Very outdated shower, not a big fan. Room smelled a little mildew-ish. And they leave the doors of the galleria open at night (although there is a locked gate and camera for the hotels entrance inside) so there were some homeless people sleeping in there with their barking dogs at night. We saw this when we walked out of hotel to leave for the airport at 4 in the morning. We weren't very comfortable in this city. Glad we were only there for a night. ok for one night.

Building is stunning but hotel is not. I should have known - took several tries for them to successfully charge my credit card, and they could have been nicer about it - nothing wrong with my card or the bank; it was something on their end. When we arrived, checkin process and bag storage was smooth, but someone was jackhammering the wall outside our room and the noise was unbearable. My husband and I literally could not hear each other from a distance of 3 feet despite shouting. Receptionist told us that there was nothing to be done because the construction was being done by another tenant of the building and not controllable by the hotel. We were nice about it, but she was visibly upset with us (quite unreasonably, I thought, given the situation) and ended up shouting at another customer who happened to telephone at the wrong time. She left for the day without giving an update on when the noise was scheduled to end. Seriously?!!! No offer of another room, or discount?

The room was uninhabitable until the construction ended in the evening. Kids were playing soccer in the gallery during the evening, which was charming at first but after several hours the echoes of their shouting got annoying even with windows closed and earplugs. Despite this being their finest room, there were stains on the chairs and sofa, and the tub and shower curtain were revoltingly moldy. This was not just a problem with old tile (see pix). Would definitely not recommend nor return.

Room Tip: The Umberto gallery room in which our kids stayed was fine; the more expensive Van Gogh Gallery View...

Arrived at our hotel at 7am and were told to come back at 2:00pm. Came back at 1:00 and they told us it would now be 4:00 and showed up at 4:00 and then told us it would be soon. Finally at 6:00 I ask to cancel the room so we could go elsewhere and they said since I booked it with orbitz it was non refundable. It old them we were leaving and manically they got a room ready for us. Never have been treated this way. Had the reservation for 4 months. Was handled very poorly. There reason was that someone was sick and they gave them late checkout. I got very conflicting stories from all personnel so we don't really know what was going on. Would never stay here or suggest anyone else to.

The Hotel Galleria Umberto is beautiful! Our very favorite hotel of the three we stayed in while in Italy. The location is fantastic. Our trip was a combination of business and pleasure. A five to ten minute walk to the waterfront to see the castles, walk along the water, take a ferry to Capri. A few minutes walk to shopping along Via Toledo and lots of great places to eat. About seven minutes walk to the Metro. We stayed in two different rooms (because the first was only available for two days) and each was wonderful. The first was a lovely room with a balcony overlooking the beautiful Galleria (a beautiful glass ceilinged outdoor mall). The second was called an "economy" room so we expected it to be small and plain. It was huge and beautifully decorated! (Just didn't have a balcony and view of the Galleria.) Rooms were air conditioned and extremely quiet at night. During the day lovely live music often drifted in if you opened the window. Breakfast was wonderful! Delicious pastries, eggs, meats, cheeses, fruit, juices. A staff member greeted us each morning as we walked in and asked if we wanted espresso, cappuccino, etc., then brought it to us at our table. We ate on a covered outdoor balcony overlooking the Galleria and the city (indoor seating was also available.) Staff at the desk spoke excellent english, were extremely helpful and gave us good recommendations for restaurants and things to see. It was difficult to find the entrance to the hotel inside the Galleria. Even some of the local store clerks in the mall didn't know where it was. (Look for a small brass plaque on one of the four column/entrances from the center of the Galleria.) Once you find it, a wonderful place to stay in Napoli!

My husband and I stayed here for one night before flying back to Germany early in the morning the next day. We stayed in the budget part of the hotel, Depandance Economy Rooms, and had a splendid time.

Galleria Umberto is an absolutely stunning building. Just staying there is a treat. The entrance to the main hotel is accessed inside the Galleria. There is only a small plaque to guide you. Just look around, and eventually you will find it. The Depandance rooms are also part of the Galleria, but the entrance is outside. Enter the main part of the hotel and they will send someone to guide you over.

The service was lovely, though most of the worker's English was not up to par. However, with some patience you will be able to get everything figured out. Our economy room was really not what I expected. We had a private (albeit small) bath with a tub and soap and a hair dryer. The room had a gorgeous queen sized bed with incredibly tall ceilings and windows. Absolutely lovely.

The archaeological museum is a simple twenty minute walk up the main shopping street (Via Toledo). The palace is right next door. Many other sights within a few minutes of walking. While it is crazy in Naples, the area is not particularly unsafe. Be aware of your belongings, but the area near the hotel is busy, relatively upscale and friendly (heck there is even a Disney store a block down the street!)

After a long day of travelling from Amalfi to Naples and then walking the busy and chaotic streets of Naples, my husband and I crashed in this wonderful room. The Depandance rooms don't really have room service (or a phone!), but the front desk will order you drinks and pizzas. We got our nice pizzas, and the front desk man served it to us out on the balcony (I believe typically reserved from breakfast) which overlooks the whole gallery. Absolutely beautiful. Then he even offered us glasses of champagne gratis.

It was a charming place to spend our last night and I would recommend the economy rooms to anyone. They were an excellent price and beautifully kept up. I would definitely return again.

You have to make sure you have dimes to operate the elevator. There are no big signs to find the hotel, just a small brass plaque on one of the four interior entrances from the Galleria. The wifi does not work in your room; only in the common areas. The rooms are oddly shaped. These are some of the quirks of the hotel.

That said, the building itself is historic and unique. The "romantic canopy" room we stayed in was enormous by European standards. Everything was clean and comfortable. There were some very nice touches, including a beautiful breakfast room (though the breakfast itself could have been better) and complimentary prosecco and snacks in the evening.

The best part of the hotel is the location. If you want to see Naples, and see all of Naples, this is the ideal base. We went to the opera one night, and it was right across the street. Gambrinus cafe, the Royal Palace, Via Toleda, Castel Nuovo, and Piazza Plebiscito are all right outside your door. A short walk up Via Chiaia drops you in Chiaia; it's an equally short walk across Piazza Plebescito and you are in Santa Lucia. The funicular up to Vomero is a few blocks away. Spaccanapoli is a bit farther, but it is a great walk up Via Toledo. And if you don't feel like walking, there is a taxi stand right outside your door. Unless you plan to spend your whole trip in and around Spaccanapoli, this is the ideal spot.

Room Tip: We stayed in 104, the Romantic Canopy suite. Big room, typically small European bathroom. There wa...
