“non convenient for a family with young children”
Reviewed 8 August 2017 for a stay in July 2017

I should have read more carefully the description and the left opinions (especially the one from MikeD363).

For accessing the house, the streets are narrow and I needed to be really careful with my peugeot 308 SW (family car). The parking is shared with an other rental and we need to agree who should be the first according on our departure time on the next day (it occured two times during our stay).

The flat is split: the living room and the kitchen on one side and the bedrooms on the other side. In order to go from one part to the other, we need to go through a common stair. This is not convenient for a family with young kids. Indeed, the wifi is only in the living room so we could not check something on the net or play a board game with the eldest after putting the youngest kid to bed because this means that we would have left the youngest alone in the bedroom floor which is separated from the living room floor by two heavy doors. The shower is not convenient neither for cleaning the kids since it is only a fixed shower head and the entrance to the shower is really narrow.

Finally, the neighborhood was quite noisy since there were fireworks almost every evening, barking dogs and cars which were horning for signaling their arrival.

This being said the flat was clean and its location was convenient as we could park the car close to the train station of Torre del greco where the parking cost only 1 euro/hour and only for a limited time (I do not remember exactly but something like from 9h to 12h30 and from 16h to 19h otherwise it is free). We did it for going to Naples and the price of the train tickets (young children do not pay) plus the parking were cheaper than the toll and the parking in Naples. We should have done this for going to Pompei( (which is close) since the parking price is 2.5 euros/hour. We though that we could have gone by public transport but the only bus stop that we found was for a line working only during the week-end and only not during the summer holidays.

“Poor, run down area and incorrectly advertised property. Multiple occupancy house.”

We had at least 3 times requested directions to this property from the owner. These were never provided. It was only because of another resident who spoke English and saw us lost in the maze of narrow alleys that we found this place.
Unfortunately we did not get what we thought we had booked. We should maybe have researched better ourselves, however we did email the owner in January and then 1 week before we arrived to confirm that we were 4 adults who wanted 3 bedrooms. This was confirmed by email by the owner.
What we got was 2 bedrooms. In one bedroom there was 1 double bed. In the only other bedroom, which they call the junior room there was a double bed and a camp bed. There was another camp bed in the entrance hall as an option and in the downstairs kitchen there was a sofa (not sofa bed) with a pillow only as an option.
On questioning the owner there were plenty of beds for 4 people what was the problem. After this we never saw the owner again and on checkout as we were driving off an older man came out and asked for the keys.
Apparently there is another bedroom and bathroom and kitchen but we never saw this and when we arrived there were 2 men staying in this part of the house.
It appears that depending on numbers of guests and bookings this 3 bedroom house is split into 2 in various ways.
Were provided with one key for the upstairs 2 bedrooms and you have to go downstairs and unlock for the kitchen area. Having to constantly take keys to go between the 2 parts of the apartment means you are walking in the communal areas (hallway/stairs/front door) and this is not pleasant as we expected a self-contained apartment.
There is only 1 bathroom for the 2 bedrooms and this is accessed only through 1 of the bedrooms. It is very small and if you are anything other than small you will not squeeze into the shower. The only other toilet is off the kitchen area downstairs through 2 locked doors. This is a toilet and basin with a hand-held shower hose and not even a proper wet room. We never used this.
Air conditioning is only in 1 of the 2 bedrooms upstairs and then in the downstairs kitchen area.
Internet connection is to one of 4 separate wireless nodes depending on where you are in the house. The only place we got good connection was in the downstairs kitchen. It is also a slow ADSL connection only.
The area is very run down and very poor for what is supposedly inside the Vesuvius National Park. There is rubbish all over the streets and one morning on driving out there was someone urinating up a wall around the corner.
We were not informed about where to place rubbish and this was the only rental apartment out of 6 on this journey that we were not so informed. We guess there are no rubbish bins at this property. We disposed of our rubbish respectfully, however most residents of this town do not.
We asked the owner on arrival about local restaurants and shops and he seemed surprised to be asked and was very vague. We found our own way around and did not use the very local amenities as these did not appeal.
Parking is shared with all other residents in a very tight gated driveway to the side of the house. You need to move cars as and when people want to get out.
We stayed in 6 apartments during our holiday in Italy and some were basic but not as disappointing as this place.

I don't have any idea to excuse me no about my property neither the service I offer to my clients. The family which I had a ''pleasure" to see just one day ( but it was absolutely enough) demonstrated who they are. Next time I should be more careful.

“nice single bedroom apartment with balcony”
Reviewed 3 May 2016 for a stay in April 2016

The apartment owner and his fater are charming and bid us welcome. The owner took us to a local shop to buy food to get us started. We interacted only with the owner on the first evening. His email communication is excellent. The bedroom was directly at the front door which opened out to an alley. Parking is available behind a locked gate but entry and exit is very tight and I strongly recommend a small car as possible. Parking is shared with any other residents so you have to collaborate to get vehicles out and there is space for two cars.

The apartment was clean, the kitchen was basic and small, and improvements could be made. For our short stay it was adequate. The living room is part of the kitchen and it was fine, there was no real space to store our suitcases, they were left of the floor, in the corridor leading to the separate toilet. The toilet also held a washing machine.

The apartment also had a balcony with a view of the garden. The neighbourhood was in general quite, but road traffic on the tight alley just beside the apartment used their horns to warn other road users may be an issue if you plan on beign in the apartment during the day. I was also woken up by a dog barking at 4 am one morning.

We enjoyed our stay at this apartment. I have one major point: according to my booking I paid for a 3 bedroom aparment with separate living room and this was clearly stated in the booking. The price I paid was in line with a much larger apartment as I deliberately wanted more space to live in. This was not what we received and I would strongly recommend that if you book this apartment you make clear with the owner exactly what rooms you are going to get as I do not recognise the living space we had in the photos of the apartment on the website. For this reason I will not use tripadvisor in the future, however the owner is very welcome to comment if he thinks my observation is wrong.

On a positive note we asked for, and received, late check out on our departure day. This was very helpful as we had late flights.

Because the apartment we rented was a small 1 bedroom and not the larger living space I booked I have given the apartment 3 stars.

Instead of going from one hotel to another try to rent a place and experience the daily activities of indigenous people of your visiting place. That's what we did. We were 3 couples and staid in this Villa of Erculano. The owner Vincenzo, also the dentist of the town and his lovely wife Elena were the most kindest people that we met in Naples. They made sure that we felt ourselves in our own home. Thank you Vincenzo for your warm and friendly hospitality. Say hello to your mama and Elena. We sure will come back to visit you again. Mille gracie!
