“Wonderful People, Great Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2013

We stayed at Villa Franca for seven nights between the 3rd and 10th June 2013.
We arrived late afternoon on the 3rd, finding the location with ease. We were emailed by the proprietor, Giuseppe on the day before our arrival to see at what time we were likely to arrive and also to ask if we would like food on our first evening, an offer we were happy to accept.
Giuseppe himself welcomed us with the drink of our choice- cold beer in even colder glasses, straight from the freezer. It was a pleasure to sit by the pool in the late afternoon sun after the long journey. We settled into our room and unpacked in time for our evening meal. Were we glad that we accepted the offer of food!
The meal on our first night was excellent and plentiful. The food was simple Italian cuisine made from very fresh ingredients, all cooked superbly by Giuseppe and his father Dominico who were to become our food gods over the next week. Indeed we only chose to eat elsewhere on one evening during the week, so good and reasonably priced was the food on offer at Villa Franca. The meal they served us of local Neapolitan rustic dishes (including delicious baby octopus) was one that I will remember forever, it was so good :-)
Our room was a good size, spotlessly clean, cool and simply furnished. We were offered an "upgrade" to their flat located in the next building but we were happy with the room we had and enjoyed its position adjacent to the pool and the dining area, all too convenient! My only suggestion would be to have a small table and chairs in the room (which was large enough to easily accommodate them) though this really isn't essential as there are plenty of tables and chairs around the pool.
The location is excellent for the ruins and for exploring the surrounding area by train (station opposite the entrance to the ruins) or by car and there is secure parking available. Giuseppe and his lovely wife Lorena were more than happy to offer help and advice on the local area, where to go, what to see and the best way to get there.
The thing we enjoyed most of all about this wonderful and memorable holiday was the way we were looked after by Giuseppe, Dominico and Lorena. It felt less like staying in a hotel and more like being staying with friends and family, so welcoming was the atmosphere. This family feeling passed on to the guests too, with most of us sitting and talking like old friends, long after dark. When checking out, I asked Giuseppe to pass on my thanks to Lorena for helping to make our stay so memorable (she was away looking after the children), he actually rang her so that I could say goodbye in person. Such a nice and thoughtful gesture!
Overall, I would recommend the Villa Franca to anyone looking for simple, unpretentious base to explore this wonderful area, I doubt you will ever find a warmer welcome on your travels.

Room Tip: There is a railway line running net to the property but this never was a cause for concern even thou...

I would give this place full marks if we had stayed in the hotel, however on our arrival we were shown to an annex room across the train line from the hotel. On seeing it we told Guiseppe that we would not stay in this room. It was dark dingy and tucked away from everything apart from the train line. We were told that because we had booked through Travel Republic and given a 15% discount this is the room we had booked. This at no time showed on our booking form and at this moment in time we are taking it up with Travel Republic. So please make sure when you book you know where you are going to stay!
When we said we would happily look for somewhere else to stay, (plenty of hotels and B&B in Pompei) Guiseppe gave us a drink and said he would sort it, which he did. We stayed next door at villa Diomede a lovely big room with a nice terrace. We used the pool at Franca and ate there every night and had a great time. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the other rooms at Franca has i did not see them but met many guests that stayed there and not one negative comment was made to me.
The pool is a godsend after a day of walking the ruins. Everything is so near to this hotel the train station is a short walk away and we used it to travel to Sorrento, Herculaneum, Oplontis, Stabaei, Boscorlea and many more. The train is really cheap and easy to use.
The food is unbelievable and is a real family affair. Pepe wine must be tried, he makes it himself and the red is lovely. The family make this hotel and make you feel so welcome and at home, ask and they will go out of their way to get what you want. it is for this reason i would go back time and time again.
Not to end on a negative note but the train line is right next to this hotel, though it does not stop here. the trains stop at about 11.pm and start again around 6.30am. You can hear them when they run, but don't be put off by this as you will miss a real piece of Italy!

Room Tip: Make sure you are staying at the B&B and not the annex rooms across the train line

Giuseppe's BB is excellent if your goal is to spend a couple of days visiting the ruins and Mount Vesuvius on a budget. First, the location is directly across the street from the ruins. Second, you could enjoy a home-cooked meal (Italian cuisine) for a reasonable price. I mention this because the food around Pompeii is rather pricey. This is also a great location if you are traveling with children. I found Giuseppe’s place to be safe and quite at nights. Overall, I rate this BB very high not only for location, but for the pleasant atmosphere. You can’t go wrong if you choose this location. In fact, I plan on returning soon with my family. Have fun in Pompeii!

We were made so welcome and Giuseppe picked us up from the station without our asking. We ate by the pool in the evening and the meal and local wine were beautiful. The ruins are a very short walk away and Vesuvius looms overhead- the whole experience felt very personal and we would certainly come again. Thanks to you and your family Giuseppe.

Stayed at Villa Franca for 2 nights based off a friends recommendation - as soon as we arrived we were greeted by Guiseppe and drinks by the pool, free guide books for the ruins, and a big smile. You've got to try dining with them at least once, perfect after a long day walking the ruins, jump into the pool for a swim then wrap a towl around and sit down at the poolside tables to some home cooking by Domenico. Location also amazing as its a few minutes walk to the ruins, the town is a bit further but there is a train stop right next door. Will remember the stay for a long time and definetely choose Villa Franca again next time we visit Pompei - thanks again!

This was a wonderful place for our little family group to stay... We were two women traveling with four children. The facility was steps from the ruin and Scavi train station. Very safe, very clean and the pool was a life saver!
The hosts Guiseppe and Dominico were gracious and accommodating made us feel welcome throughout our 4 day stay.
The breakfast was excellent but the highlight was the excellent dinner served by the pool each night. Highly recommended!
