Owner description: The largest baths of Ancient Pompeii
Reviewed 29 July 2014

If you visit public bathingplaces/sauna in Belgium, Holland, Germany these days, you think it's something typical of this days.
Noop!
The Romans did 2000 years ago.
The architecture of places now and 2000 years ago is almost the same.
What a spectacular place.

It is truly incredible how much is still there. There is a street that shows the lead pipes they used to pipe water.

The Forum Baths are perhaps one of the most well preserved buildings (which you can access) across the archaeological site. The detail in the stucco and tiling is amazing. Although not quite as impressive as the larger bath site at Pompei it is often less busy, affording you the opportunity to sit and appreciate the beauty. Tours are great for understanding Roman life, but I would recommend buying a book and exploring at your leisure. Part of the wonder of Pompei is your own exploration, discovery and guess work.

The forum baths are very well preserved and provide a lot of detail. I can't believe they used this 2000 years ago and it still stands today.

Tip: it is shaded so you can rest here inside sitting on the benches whilst appreciating the beauty of the baths.
