My students and I spent three nights at the Hotel Iside, a spot I've been staying for years. The staff was incredibly accommodating, helping us when our bags were lost by Air France, making photocopies for a student's handout for a presentation in Pompeii, allowing us to keep our lunch supplies in the friedge, and generally being warm and inviting. Students appreciated the excellent wi-fi coverage in the hotel, as well its proximity to the modern town of Pompeii. Breakfast was very pleasant, well-exceeding the normal continental fare of, for example, our hotel in Rome. To my mind, this spot is an excellent alternative to the more touristy hotels on the west side of town: one can easily stroll to good restaurants in modern Pompeii, quickly access the site of Pompeii through the amphitheater entrance, and also get to the Circumvesuviana stop in 10 minutes. Also, it's close to the grocery store, which makes shopping for an on-site picnic very easy. The owners are sweet and kind, especially the daughter who now runs the place.

Room Tip: The rooms on the rear of the hotel overlook a small orange grove as well as the Sorrentine peninsula...

I was a guest at the Hotel Iside for over a week, spending long days exploring the ancient cities nearby. At first I was nervous about staying in a small, out of the way hotel for so long but Hotel Iside actually turned out to be the high point of the places I stayed on this trip to Italy. It is first of all sparkling clean. Then it is run by an extended family who take turns with the responsibilities and they are all very responsible and helpful and pleasant. They can answer almost every question and if they can't they will go on line and find an answer. The breakfast is good and served with a smile. The family knows all the restaurants in town and they made great suggestions about where to go. You cannot do better than this hotel.

Room Tip: Mine faced the back towards the hills and there was nothing more pleasant than sitting on my balcony...

my husband, I, and two old ladies get a warm, friendly and very helpful service at the hotel iside at pompei. For all questions we've got an answer, the breakfast was enough to visit the exvacation.
The hotel is in the middle of everything. If it is possible, we go back to this hotel. Thank you, hotel iside best regard from Beate

For those wishing to visit the excavations at Pompei the hotel could not be better located. It is less than ten minutes to both the town centre. There are a number of restaurants within walking distance which are of a fair standard. The hotel provides an excellent base for visiting Vesuvious, Herculaneum, and Naples. Modern Pompei is not the most salubrious of locations. Nonetheless, and given that we were traveling with three children, at no stage did we feel unsafe. The hotel itself is pleasant and comfortable. It is spotlessly clean and the rooms, whilst basic, are perfectly adequate. The staff is keen to assist, their english significantly better than my italian. They provided advice on tours and lent books to avert the necessity of purchasing guides. The breakfast is good standard continental fare. Parking in the town is at a premium and the car park at the back of the hotel is a major benefit. Hard to fault at the price.

I generally pick by hotels based on location first, then look for reasonable quality and value for money. This hotel was superbly located, 5 minutes from the entrance to the ampitheatre entrance to the historical site of Pompeii and 10 minutes from the town centre and Basilica. A family run hotel, very friendly and helpful staff. Turning right as you leave the hotel, walk for 10 minutes and you get to the main square, on your left is the Basilica, do go in and see the amazing interior. If there is a mass going on, just sit at the back or to the side and look around. On your left as you entered the square is a bar where you can enjoy a beer or coffee at very reasonable prices. Beer was 3x the price at the restaurant opposite the main entrance to the archaeological site!

Loved our 3 day stay here, not least because of the owners - they could not have been kinder or more helpful (particularly when we made an almighty muddle with our travel arrangements). Ida, daughter of the owners, is particularly helpful because not only is she very knowledgeable about local tourism, she has also spent a lot of time in the UK and speaks very good English.

It is a small purpose built family run hotel, bright, unpretentious and homely. The fresh fruit from the garden was welcome at breakfast (though we supplemented the usual over-sweet Italian breakfast with our own muesli).

It would have been helpful to know that it is only a 15 minute walk from either station, then we would have saved ourselves the standard Pompeii confrontation with the greedy and unscrupulous local taxi drivers. Try to let your hotel know when you are arriving and they will arrange for a taxi to pick you up. Seeing everywhere is likely to be within 3 km of the station - including all the main entrances to the archaeological site - 8 euros is about right - the 15 to 20 demanded by local tourist rip off taxi drivers is outrageous.

The Iside is roughly half way between the 2 main entrances to the site - on foot, 5-10 minutes to the "Scavi" (town) entrance, and a good 10 minutes to the "Marina" (House of Mysteries) entrance (which does however go past a huge local Carrefour).

The whole place was immaculate, and we had a spectacular view of Vesuvius from our room.
The wifi reception was excellent, and, in our opinion, Iside is spectacularly good value in this overpriced area.

Hotel Iside is a satisfactory place for visiting Pompei. It is a bit deceiving. Looks like a 2 star place on the outside but turns out to be much nicer on the inside, and there is parking in the back, a real plus. Nice clean but spartan rooms, about 2 blocks from the back entrance, about 800 meters from main entrance (long walk). Pompei is a one day visit so plan on staying here, looking at the ruins, and talking short walk to the main street for dinner. Good breakfast.
