Very cozy place to walk, enjoy the views and atmosphere of this little island. Not really touristy, so really quiet.

A little old fishermen village. An wonderful oasis of silence and peace with beautiful colourful houses, narrow paved streets, terraces and patios. An interlacement of arcs, steps, staircases, windows and domes making it to look like a giant ant hill.No cars traffic.A few little seafood restaurants.
For wonderful views of the little village follow the road up to Terra Murata. There you'll find a belvedere terrace.

Set against a steep hill under a brooding castle. The seafront is lined with fish restaurants which are very good. The fishing boats in blue and white are colorful. The people friendly. At first the town looks shabby and unkept. A maze of houses and hundreds of steps going everywhere and nowhere. But after a few hours the town grows on you. There are lovely little pension's and hotels to stay with spectacular views of the bay.

As a foreign-film buff, I visited this port because of its connection with the wonderful "Il Postino." But one doesn't have to like films to become enthralled with this working fishing village. It is the real thing with boats bobbing in the water, finished with the morning's work. Mounds of fishing nets lined the quay. When I stopped by, at least 10 men stood or sat, usually solo, repairing torn nets.
Many turned to greet me with a big smile and a friendly greeting. I have never felt so welcome.

A few simple restaurants stand in the vicinity with weatherbeaten pastel-colored houses nearby. A huge hill, displaying more homes, a big yellow church and an old prison form the port's backdrop.

It takes about 15 minutes to walk from the hydrofoil landing to the port. There is no signage but I found residents to be delighted to show me the way. The final approach involves descending myriad steep steps for about three minutes.
