“Lovely home while in Rome”
Reviewed 26 February 2014

Blackberry B&B is lovely. Nice rooms, friendly and very helpful host, with several little cafes and pizza places nearby and almost on top of a metro station. It's also a 15, 20 minute walk from the Colosseum and Forum, which I found useful.

my friend and I stayed here for five nights, it was actually our second time there. Pluses - the location is great, it is really easily to find, metro station Manzoni, just about two hundred meters from it and is not far to walk to the city center, 15 min to Colosseum on foot. It was warm inside during this time of the year (end of december), just provide yourself with warm socks, because floors in Italy are cold. The welcome was very good - owner contacted me couple of days before our arriving to check exact time and gave me phone number to call in order to get into the building. And although we arrived at holiday, 25th, everything went smooth and we were waited. I called Barbara on our arrival to the airport, she answered immediately and contacted us herself when we didn't arrive as promised, because we didn't know that metro will be closed early because of the holiday. Negative is that you should not hope on breakfast - there is just a possibility to have water or make tea. There are some soluble capuccino, but it is not drinkable, also there is only couple of packed croissants, but my consideration is, that this is not breakfast. We went every day via Emanuele Filiberto toward piazza Emanuele Filiberto, there is a cafe, which offers a really tasteful coffe. Overall it is really simple place with a food location and if you intend to discover Rome and need just place to sleep/wash it is great choice and good value for this money. It is one of the cheepest places to stay. Barbara gave us map and showed what to see and how to get there. As we already know there everything is, we will definitely choose to stay there next time again. And one thing more - strong suggestion to bring earplugs with you - if you stay in the room, which has window toward street,as we had, there will be really loud noise the whole night, even with window closed.

Room Tip: Ask if the room is toward inside garden or the street, to be prepared for the noise. Call owner on t...

Our trip to Italy included 3 days in Rome.
We were lucky to find this place 'cause it's good located in the city and it's quite easy to move from there, expecially late at night. The staff give you a lot of information when you arrive on how to move around and what to see and what to avoid. They were very precious informations.
Rooms are large but there should be more manutenance of the rooms but overall they are good and cleaned almost daily.
Breakfast is really basic and somewhat disappointing but we didn't care a lot about it 'cause Rome has a lot of places where you can have a more delicious breakfast.
The best thing was the garden inside the building :)

I was travelling in Rome in May, 2012. I had just caught the train to Rome from Florence, it was late in the afternoon and i went to find the blackberry house for my booking (i had booked for 4 nights). Upon doing so, i was advised to call the lady, as mentioned on my booking, so she could meet us at out the front and let us up. I called and called, and there was no answer. This went on for about an hour - after several attempts at the pay phone i thought i was entering the wrong numbers or something - so i went into a shop to ask the shop assistant to call for me - yet still, no answer of the hosts phone. It started getting dark and was about 6pm- we decided to wait out the front of the hotel and wait for someone to come out so we could at least enter the front courtyard. We got through, and then at this stage, i located the building of the black berry house, in much relief, decided to go up so we could settle in. Wrong. We lugged our 25kg backpacks up the many flights of stairs - and knocked on the door to the b&b, waiting at the door for about 20minutes, knocking and knocking, and no answer. By this stage it was probably about 7pm. It was dark - and as i was foreign to the city i was panicked, and i gave up after 2 and a half hours of trying to get onto this woman. Luckily i found a lovely hotel called "melton" and we told the lady at the desk there what had happened, she was very helpful and thankfully gave us a reduced rate! By 8.30pm we had settled into our room, nearly 4 hours after arriving in Rome with lugging around our heavy bags. When i returned from dinner, about 11pm - i received an email from the lady i was supposed to meet - advising she was at the hotel waiting for us all night? Also being rude refusing to refund my money, saying i never called her etc. what a load of rubbish! For a first visit to Rome - this was possisbly the worst welcoming i could imagine. But juding by other reviews - i'm glad we did not stay here.

Room Tip: Dont stay here

We stayed at the B&B for six nights. I will come back to the fact that they call themselves a B&B.

So we were greated by one of the owners a man who was very welcoming and friendly. He pointed out all the good spots in Rome and which metro ticket to buy and where to go when - it was really helpful and thourough.

We got a nice room with a French balcony from where we could hang up wet towels etc. so far so good.

Now for the not so good things:

First of all to call this place a B&B is simply wrong. We got two small croissants in plastic wrapping which wasn't very tasty at all. To fill us up some more there were 2 small Twinkie looking cakes. Outside the room there was a water tank- the ones you find in a waiting room which had cold and hot water. Next to it was a couple of instant cappuccino/coffees which where to say te least awful tasting.
There was also a fridge that even though it looked and sounded like it was on was as warm as our room and didn't do a good job of cooling drinks etc down.

The bathroom: shower head was completely useless and we ended up taking of the head and simply using the thumb to make the stream hard.

It was not once cleaned in the time we were there. We had no toilet paper for three days and the towels were not replaced. It was really disappointing.

The hostel claims they have wifi. That is a complete lie. The owner said it would be fixed within a day and that was the last time we saw him. We managed to find somebody's wifi for the first 2 days but it was turned of.

It was a very cheap and affordable place but it was just not good enough. Two bathrooms for 4 rooms and one of them we out of order.

If you don't mind getting dirty and your on a budget trip it's ok but that's all!

This place in Rome, is not a B&B! There was no real bed or breakfast at this pensione.
I was not expecting much for our budget level, but two cots and instant coffee is below even my low expectations. The proprietors of this establishment should call it what it is, a bare bones room for dirt cheap price, a dry, warm place to rest your head for a night or two.
The shared restroom ran out of toliet paper for TWO days, we had to bring napkins back to the room wtih us for our toliet use. One of the cots broke and, one of had to sleep on the floor unti it could be repaired the next day (which it was). Stains on the walls, toilets were not cleaned on a daily basis. Pro: close to public transportation and friendly cafe street side.

Room Tip: I would not suggest this hotel for any reason.

this b&b is very central, thus making a good start for the city. quite basic and simple in furniture but it has anything you need plus coffee and tea everytime you need it (and i need 'em a lot!). The staff there is helpful and provide you with a lots of hints and tips&tricks for your journey in the eternal city.
