We stayed at Blackberry House for seven nights in January. The room was decent, simple and clean. There were two bathrooms shared by all guests: one large, one small. The bathrooms were cleaned each morning. Breakfast was packaged pastries, cereals, and juice. We read great reviews about the owner, Barbara, but didn't have much contact with her ourselves. She did provide us with a map and a list of things to see in Rome. It was a bit of a walk to any of the sights, but the B&B is very close to the metro and bus, and within walking distance to the train station.

I traveled here in may 2009 with my Husband and 8 year old daughter. Firstly Barbara who runs the b&b was absolutely lovely and very helpful. We arrived late afternoon and as we walked through the courtyard to get to the apartment even the neighbours were happily pointing us in the right direction. Once there, Barbara immediately showed us to our room. Which had a double and a single bed. It was more than adequate for us. It was basic but very clean. In the morning Barbara always brewed up a fresj flask of Italian coffee. Lovely! Only thing is you have to get in quick if you want to get a cup as the place was fully booked when we were there and obviously most of the guests were coffee drinkers! But it was no problem to Barbara to make a fresh flask if you missed out on the first one. There was also a constant supply of instant coffee and hot water. As other reviews have said the breakfast was fairly basic but it was fine if you just wanted to have something small and quick with your coffee to keep you going before you went out for the day. For me there was a lovely atmosphere there as we met some very nice people and at the end of most days we would share our sightseeing experiences. There was also internet access all day for free. For me it was handy to look up any additional info on the sights in Rome before we visited them.
Overall, we loved our stay here and would come back again. The only downside for me was the shared bathroom. I have no complaints about the cleanliness as the bathrooms we spotless. However I did have one quite embarrasing experience in that one person using the bathroom had forgotten to lock the bathroom door and I walked in on him. So just make sure you lock the door and just to be on the safe side knock before you walk in!

As many other people have said, Barbara is an amazing hostess. She took the time to talk about the sights and provided us with a map of the city. The Blackberry Inn was perfect for us: clean, comfortable, and close to the metro station (manzione). It was very easy to get around Rome, and we had a great stay here!

The best thing about this BnB is the owner, Barbara. She's very gracious, helpful and attentive. We had an early flight out of Rome and so we had to leave early, but she left a tray of breakfast goodies in our room the night before. She also arranged for our taxi ride to the airport.

The location can't be beat. It is very close to the Manzoni metro station and the Colosseum is within walking distance.

The major issue that I had with the Blackberry House was the shared bathroom and toilet. We actually stayed in the Blackberry Inn, which was a few yards away from BH. There were 4 rooms sharing 1 bath/toilet, 1 was a quad, and the other 2 were either a triple or double. So imagine how busy it can get in the morning and early evening. It can also get messy.

But for the price and location, it was alright.

Barbara is a very very nice lady and her Cameroon assistant is very lively and likeable as well both hostesses could not do more than they did for us....however this is really a backpacker establishment and not a B and B.

Blackberry house is a good cheap B and B however should only be called a Bed as the breakfast is rather poor and not worthwaiting for as it consists of plastic foodstuffs dont wait for breakfast go out as you are better off looking through some dumpsters as opposed to eating the breads supplied.

Shower was broken, toilet paper ran out and cleanliness of showers were terrible with other guests very noisy

I originally booked the Blackberry near to the Colosseum but the day before I traveled Barbara contacted me to say she had a problem with this apartment and had a new apartment available near to termini station I was not happy with this as I was traveling with my elderly mother and wanted a quiet area and thought the area around termini would be too noisy but at this stage I had no other choice. Im glad to say it all worked out for the best the apartment is facing a square and while near a busy road the noise wasnt a problem the apartment is newly renovated and has three rooms and two bathrooms. The bedrooms are basic but lovely and clean and practical. There is a fridge for use in the hallway and a water cooler which was great. I cant say enough about Barbara the nicest person you can meet and so kind my mother found the heat a bit much and the last day we were due to check out but our flight wasnt until late Barbara kindly left us remain in the room until late evening and left all tea/coffee etc for our use. As it worked out the location of the apartment suited us better in the end as we were so close to Termini and found getting around from there so easy. The think to remember here is that for the price you pay it is great value., the rooms are really clean and sharing the bathroom wasnt a problem for us and they were immaculate. While people complain about the packaged breakfast it was edible and kept us going until lunch.

We stayed at Blackberry House for three nights in June 2009 and we very pleased overall. Barbara is very kind and considerate, and while her English is limited, she more than makes up for it with her careful attention and suggestions for good local places, away from the over-price and tourist-congested spots. The rooms were cozy and clean, and the bathrooms/shower were well maintained. The location is also outstanding: in a nice non-tourist neighbourhood, but only 10-15 minute walking to the Colosseum and the train station. The only real weak point was the breakfast: a bunch of packaged breads and sweets that really aren't worth the bother. The coffee, however, is excellent, and we ended up having coffee and picking up a pastry in the excellent shop just down the road. Overall, it's hard to ask for more for 60 Euros!
