“The secret to a STRESS-FREE visit to Rome...”
Reviewed 20 May 2014

...is to stay at the Donna Camilla Savelli Hotel.
Rome can be overwhelming. The noise, occasional air pollution, the mobs of day-trippers,
and the frantic energy of the City often blind a visitor to the sublime sights and pleasures there.
But if one has the Donna Camilla Savelli Hotel as a place to retreat and rest and regroup, Rome
can qualify as the best place in the world for a long vacation.
The architecture of the Hotel is historic; the service is generally conscientious; and the views from
room windows, and from the rooftop terrace, are spectacular. Up top, in early morning or
at twilight, there can be periods of time when only the mumur of distant traffic, and the cries
of seagulls can be heard.
The only less-than-positive thing about the Hotel is that they occasionally rent our their
ground-level courtyard for special events, which are often noisy. I would suggest that the Management might alert their room-guests of upcoming special events, so that guests can
choose to be out for those evenings.

Beautiful hotel in Rome. Lovely courtyard where you can sit out and enjoy your breakfast. The breakfast is extremely good. Also lovely roof terrace with fab city views. Room not huge but very comfortable and tastefully decorated. Would recommend this very highly.

Stayed here again as the location suited our needs, however the hotel has a bit of trouble running at full capacity. We did not feel that the service was as good as on our first visit nor was our room as nice. For 250 Euro nightly I might expect better.
The room this time only had one medium sized mirror above the bathroom sink! No mirror near the desk or closet. The room was dark and looked out onto another building.
So, the combination of lack of mirror and poor lighting really makes getting dressed tricky.
There was no artwork or anything on the walls which made the room even more stark.
One night we had turn down service and the other nights no. Toiletries were not consistent either.
The pigeons at breakfast were intimidating. They would violently invade any empty table and toss the cups and food scraps all around. The staff didn't bother much with them. Many of the other guests also expressed horror at this sight. Once, when we got up to get more from the buffet, we returned to pigeons on our table too. We lost our appetite...
This monastery turned hotel is a quiet haven a bit off the beaten path- which could be a plus or a negative depending on individual taste.

Room Tip: if you like peace and calm this is a unique property, but it is off the beaten path, so not very pra...

Truly an oassis just away from the hustle and bustle. This very comfortable and well run hotel made our 3 night stay in Rome that bit more special. Easy walking distance to the river but within a charming area itself with pretty streets, good choice of restaurants and many interesting shops. Eating breakfast in the delightful courtyard garden was a good way to start the day - and to finish it with a late night glass or two as well! Staff were very friendly and helpful and the room service/cleaning was super efficient!

Room Tip: We did not choose our rooms - 2 couples booked together but we were allocated on different floors so...

Staying at Donna Camilla was one of the best hotel visits me and my husband have had when travelling in Europe. We were upgraded to junior suite, which was tasteful and had a lovely view facing a small garden. Overall, the former convent was well transformed -without loosing its charm - to a modern hotel. The staff was friendly and professionall, location in Trastevere perfect for walks around Rome. Highly recommended !

Donna Camilla Savelli is an old convent, so it's very charming in that old beautiful way. It's not only cosy, its actually very well made, clean and luxurious.

The back yard is a wonderful garden where you can eat your breakfast in the sun. This is a quiet oasis only a few minutes from the busy streets of Trastevere, with all the bars, restaurants and cafes within walking distance.

I can recommend this hotel to everyone, but especially for couples, as its very romantic.

Trastevere is the place to be if you want to focus on the Vatican and this buzzing section of Rome.Hotel is tranquil, relaxing, welcoming. Great rooms with all amenities and good service--but no internet the in room! Only hardwire and not accessible with MAC at a 12 Euro charge per day! Internet in the garden and lobby free! Superb breakfast buffet--lovely in the garden in nice weather! Location is perfect!
