If you are in Rome and your enjoy wine, you HAVE to attend a wine tasting by Hande at Vino Roma. Not only was the wine tasing incredibly enjoyable, but it was also educational and informative. It is obvious that Hande really knows and loves wines and has a fantastic gift for communicating that knowledge and passion. She took the time to answer all my questions no matter how simple they were. I arrived at 5PM (her place is very easy to find) and was surprised when we finished and it was 2 hours later. You'll end up tasting 7 wines from various regions in Italy, and, if it is similiar to mine, you'll have 3 whites and 4 reds. Bottom line: You will learn a lot, drink great wines, and really enjoy yourself. I'd recommend--afterwards--walking to the Spanish Steps and eating at Ristorante 34.

My husband and I just spent a wonderful evening doing a wine tasting with Vino Roma. It was so much fun that I want to ask Hande to do another one, maybe with different wines or with food and wine pairings or something, anything to justify going back. When you leave you will know more about Italy and Italian wines than when you arrived. You will also know more about your own preferences in wine. When we travel, we make it a point to learn about the food and wine of the place we are visiting. This is one of the best "wine" experiences we have had -- and we found out about some great wine bargains, too. She doesn't actually sell wine, so the pressure to buy is off. Relax, sip, enjoy: that's all there is to it, but it's all good.

If you're at all interested in Italian wines, don't miss Vino Roma. Although I took the bus to get there, it's walkable from most areas of the city. Hande creates a warm atmosphere and made it comfortable for me, traveling solo.

If you value learning about wine in an intimate and very personal setting, from an accredited and very personable sommlier, in an Roman apartment next to the Tiber, near the Mausoleum of Augustus, then Vinoroma is for you! Hande is erudite about wine and adjusts her information to your level of interest and experience. She selects 7 or 8 different wines, prepares a printed guide to their characteristics and disusses each one. Over the ensuing 2 plus hours you get to taste, compare and talk about each one, ending by "working with" the one or two you most liked. We were there with 2 others from Alaska (around the Sara Palin time!) and the ensuing discussions were full of inside info and lots of great talk about wine, politics and life. Just what an evening in Rome should be! It was both "local" and "international" at the same time, the best of what travel has to offer, and with great wine too! We are very much looking forward to our return to Rome, and to Vinoroma.

An excellent, relaxed couple of hours were spent in the capable hands of Hande, an expert sommelier and the perfect tutor/host of this intimate seminar-style event. My partner and I joined another 7 people for a introduction to wine tasting with a focus on Italian wines. The specific session was tailored on the day to suit the group's differing but fairly basic knowledge and experience. Beginners were made to feel very welcome but nobody was patronised.

Highly recommended.
