We had lunch here in the middle of a busy day. Food was better than average, service was good. Both pasta and risotto are reliable. Tartufo is very good.

The guy at the front door with the tongue stud is a lot of fun, but that is where the good times stop. All the elixir at the front gate then bam you're a tourista and a number. The produce is average and the service atrocious. I was travelling solo and other restaurants made such a fuss for comfort, not this one... Get 'em in, get 'em out. I ordered the warm gots cheese appetiser and it came out.. Knowing it wasn't goats cheese I questioned it and was told that was what I ordered... Only later to be told the menu had changed today and it was in fact NOT goats cheese I was served... Shock. Best thing about this place is the live street music... That ironically has nothing to do with the restaurant. Go into the nearby piazza's people... As late as you can possibility wait. Up to 10pm, you'll be treated like cattle.

Where do we start? First impression was when the guy trying to call people walking in the piazza into the restaurant started ushering us into a back table and then when we asked for one of the front tables gave us an "up and down" and a look as if those tables were reserved for VIPs. When we got sat, it took 10 minutes for someone to come for drink orders and who wouldn't take out food order because he wasn't the actual waiter. Then we got served two glasses of terrible wine (don't order the house wine). Our food was terrible. One pasta dish was obviously re-heated from cold and the other tasted as if I made it out of a box and a jar of sauce. Service was slow and sloppy which made the suits and bow ties of the waiters look ridiculous. Save yourself the experience and cross the street to Campo De fiori. We had several great meals at many restos there and the atmosphere is so much more authentic.

I wasn't sure if we would include Tre Scalini in our dining plans while in Rome, due to the high prices, but we decided to splurge and had a simply perfect lunch there while people watching on the Piazza Navona. The service was superb and their signature dessert lived up to its reputation. We highly recommend Tre Scalini and to dine al fresco outside if possible. We would return to this restaurant in a heartbeat!

Food is as expected - good basic pasta dishes in a tourist area. Excellent people watching. Nice spot for a break in the march around some of the main attractions of Rome.
