“Amazing location, very clean and very comfortable”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 September 2011

We stayed with Imperium Suite Navona in late August/early September in one of their 'double deluxe'/superior rooms - the Trevi Fountain room - and it was perfect for us! As mentioned by others, this room is in a townhouse located on the opposite side of the laneway to the building that houses the reception. But this turned out to be no inconvenience at all - reception was moments away, and we had our own key to get into our building and our room, no buzzing required.

The room was cleaned to perfection every day, the breakfast was brought to our room exactly on time, and the staff were always friendly and ready to help with any enquiry. There's also free wifi and there are the usual basic mini bathroom products as well (shampoo, shower gel, etc).

The location is the real icing on the cake - it has all the benefits of being right next to the Piazza Navona (5 minutes' walk to the Pantheon or Castel Sant'Angelo, 10 minutes to the Spanish Steps, 15 minutes to the Vatican or Coliseum), but conveniently nestled a few laneways back so it doesn't suffer from tourist or traffic noise, bright lights at night or anything like that. We had a little window framed with beautiful hanging ivy that let in a lovely cool breeze, but the air con was also very good.

We also recommend the little cafe just outside, in the laneway of the Imperium Suite Navona. It's actually a small gallery, but has three little tables set up for lunch and dinner. The veal rolls and the dessert were both absolutely scrumptious, and it was nice to have a change from the usual pasta/pizza/gelateria places we'd tried.

Two thumbs up!

Excellent location - perfect for easy access to most of the main tourist areas, but also cozily nestled in a warren of side streets full of great bars and trattorias.

Unfortunately, that was the only positive...

The room was pretty basic, but the style of the accommodation let's it down. Our door was inches from the reception desk, so limited privacy and regular noise through day and night as guests buzzed to be let in the front door.

One other basic failing was the absence of simple facilities like a kettle. Instead a flask of tepid water was kept at reception, which could only be replenished if the staff went next door to boil some water! not quite four star in my opinion

Very grumpy and unhelpful night time receptionist.

No stand up shower

Imperium Suite Navona probably can't be called a "hidden gem," given that it's ranked so highly on TripAdvisor. However, I hadn't been aware of it during my past visits to Rome (usually staying in Campo dei Fiori or the Piazza Navona area). I'm glad my wife and I found it, though, because I doubt we'd find a better or more comfortable hotel at this price, with this location.

Aside from the hotel's perfect location (well positioned for sightseeing, restaurants, bars, and shops), we had a big, clean, and well-appointed (modern, but not tacky) room; a strong air conditioning; a large, clean bathroom; and a free bottle of wine. The room was in a separate building, across the street from the reception, but the reception is open 24-hours per day, delivers breakfast to the rooms, and is very helpful. In fact, when we were trying to re-route our flight back to the U.S. at the last minute (weather cancellations), the reception let us use their computer and made some last-minute arrangements for a car service and breakfast.

The entrance is hard to find, and there's no outward sign, so know the address, then look for the buzzer with the "Imperium Suite Navona" label. Our room (and several others) were in a secure building across the street. The rooms each have a separate "Roman" theme (ours was the Trevi Fountain room, with Trevi Fountain artwork hanging inside).

Highly recommended.

We stayed here for 3 nights and found the location of the hotel perfect for sightseeing. It was walking distance to most major sites including the Vatican, Trevi fountain, Spanish Steps and Borghese Museum. The room was great. It was a plus to be near the reception desk so if we had any questions we just stuck our head out of the room and the person at the reception desk came right over. The breakfast was a modest continental delivered to the room when specified. The people at the reception desk were exceptionally nice and helpful with restaurant recommendations. The room was adequate size with A/C and free Wi-FI and kept clean. One minor issue for me since I am petite was stepping into the jacuzzi tub to use the shower which was part of the tub. Also although they had a small elevator, we usually walked a flight of stairs to get to the hotel reception and our room. Other than those 2 things if u want a nice comfy place and don't need big hotel amenities this is a great choice.

More of an apartment than a hotel (ie no real reception/public bathrooms/common space). I don't mean that in a negative way, it's just it was a bit unusual (literally no external sign indicating that it was a hotel).
That said, the stay was fine and it's a reasonable tourist-class option.

The location is perfect-- centrally located, but on a quiet street. Price was very good for central Rome. The room was good sized w/ a/c. The bathroom quite large and modern. The staff were pleasant.

On the con-side-- bathroom was a bit dusty and not as clean as I would have liked. It wasn't outrageously filthy or anything beyond the pale, but a couple stray hairs in the tub put me off. Again, it wasn't that big a deal, obviously the tub had been cleaned, it likely was just a stray from the air kind of thing. But still, a bit of an 'ew' factor.

At the end of the day, pros and cons. Overall, I say a solid average. I wouldn't go there for luxury or a romantic atmosphere. But if I were just interested in having a convenient 'base' to tour from, I'd probably give it another chance.

My boyfriend and I stayed here at the end of July 2011 and we feel in love with the hotel and Rome! So want to go back soon!

Finding it:
It is tucked away ion a little street, but is easy peasy to find when you know where it is! I highly recommend taking a map that has all the street names listed on it, then it is easier to locate. We has aloso looked at the photos on here first which helped! Our taxi driver pointed us in completly the wrong direction (as cars cannot fit up the street) so it took us a little while to find it!

Staff:
AMAZING...all the staff speak good english, were so friendly and helpful, went out of their way to help us! Gave us a really good free map of Rome which was so useful!

The Hotel and Room:
It is on the 1st floor, so there are stairs to climb - not not hard! You have to buzz the intercom to get in (reception is manned 24hrs and this was nice as it felt safe) We stayed in the standard room, which is down the corridor from the reception. It was a good sixe, very clean, and very sweet! Air con worked which was a big bonus as it was so hot outside!

Breakfast:
You have a tick box selction each evening to fill out what you want and what time to be delivered - we ticked everything (!) and it was all great! Delivered bang on time each day, and it was a luxury eating breakfast in bed!

Location:
PERFECT! we couldnt have wished for more! 1 minute walk to Piazza Navona, 2 minutes to the river and bridges, 10 minutes from the Spanish Steps+Trevi Fountain, 20 minutes to the Colesseum.

There were some great local restaurants about 1 minute walk from the hotel, and the hotel staff gave some great recommendations of other places near by to.

There are local buses/taxis very nearby if you want to travel this way, but we walked everywhere - all the main sites were within easy walking distance. Rome is very easy to navigate (with a good map!) and we had so much fun walking down all the little cobbled streets and discovering new sites and places, which you wouldn't get if you got the bus!

The food is amazing, and the ice cream is the best we have ever had! Avoid the restaurants on Piazza Navona, as these are more pricey and not as cute as the little side street ones!

We felt really safe walking around day or niht in Rome - but always aware as pick pockets can sttrike at any time! But we were fine, and din't have any troubles at all!

Room Tip: We stayed in the stanadard room and this was lovely!

Stayed here for 3 nights in July and was really impressed. The rooms are modern and spotlessly clean, with great walk-in showers in the bathrooms. The staff are really friendly and so helpful. Breakfast was delivered to the room exactly on time each day and the choice is great, you order the night before and specify the time so it can fit in with your plans for the day. The location is great, a quiet street with no through traffic so hardly any noise and everything is within easy walking distance especially Piazza Navona which is a two minute walk. We had a room in the seperate block opposite from the main reception, it was like having our own private apartment. Can't praise this place enough, we will definetly be back!

Room Tip: Go for a superior room, it was fantastic
