We signed up for the 3.5 hours one, but after an hour and a half, it was clear that the guide does not have strong knowledge or interesting stuff to share, so he kept on repeating the same things about how big or small the statues and sculptures were to make them look life-sized. My verdict is that it really depends on the guide. This is not a critique of the Vatican Museums or City. On hindsight, I would have saved the money and gone with a much shorter tour and roamed around on our own.

We were there off season so the lines were very reasonable. Even so we bought skip the line tour tickets and had a great guide. The Vatican Museum is nearly indescribable. The collection of Art is unrivaled and you cannot possibly take it all in during a single visit. The Sistine Chapel is amazingly beautiful. I'm not Catholic however I recommend anyone see this place. Following the Vatican tour we went to St. Peter's Basilica. Wow!!!

We paid about 60 euros for the tour and we were rushed around as if the guide had somewhere better to be. The Vatican is an amazing place, the Raphael rooms and the Sistine chapel are fantastic. Just remember,, ssshhhh no talking in the chapel.

Book your tickets in advance and consider getting an audio guide. We'd hoped booking the tour direct with the Vatican was the best option, although in hindsight this wasn't the case.

The lines to get in is LONG and we mistaking thought we can get in. Then a shady looking character suggested a tour. We followed gingerly. South Africans are cautious. To make a long story shot. Caput Mundi Tours was great. The guide was well informed and we are so glad we did the tour. Do not even think of seeing the Vatican by yourself.

With so many private tour operators we weren't sure what to book so we booked through the vatican official guided tours which was a good decision. It was a bit cheaper and very good. Make sure to pre-book because the line was hours long for those who didn't even at 8:30am
-tour size was about 15 people, great english guide
-very long 3.5 hours on our feet walking through the museum, sistine chapel and st pauls
-beautiful but without knowing entire historical value of all of the tapestry, sculptures, and artwork it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain excitement for the length of the tour
-if you are looking to study and see every sculpture you may not want a guided tour and just buy a book and take your time because you could likely spend a few days here
