We stayed 6 night with my family in that beautiful, well located and comfortable Cristal house.Roberto was a perfect host, very kind and helpful. We were close to the Vatican ,to fancy shops and good restaurants.Thank you to make us feel at home. All was perfect.
Nice warm welcoming clean apartment equipped with everything. Having two bathrooms and three bedrooms makes it a lot more comfortable when you are a group of people. Location was great and next to the metro. Communication with owner Roberto was very efficient prior to our arrival and he assisted us with all our queries and concerns. Additionally upon our arrival he was very helpful by giving us great tips, restaurant recommendations and a map of Rome. A great experience, highly recommended.
We had a great 5 day stay at Robertos apartment. It was very handy to everything one would need and 5 mins walk to the Metro. The apartment was spacious warm and comfortable. Roberto met us at the apartment and was very thorough in explaining everything we needed to know about the apartment and how to get about Rome even providing a map and accompanying us to the Metro. A nice gesture was a bottle of wine and coffee pods for us on arrival . Roberto is a most gracious and helpful host booking taxis for us to and from the airport. I would highly recommend this apartment for a stay in Rome.
We’ve just returned from a wonderful week in Rome, staying at Cristal House. Roberto was an excellent host, nothing was too much trouble, right from the time the airport transfer that he had arranged for us met us at the airport, to the time we were delivered back to departures – precisely on time.
On arrival, Roberto was at the apartment to greet us, gave us a comprehensive tour of Cristal House and ensured that we were comfortable with the door entry system, cooking facilities, internet and all of the other facilities. He then gave us an excellent map and many tips on what to do in Rome, where all the key sites were located, best ways to travel around and save money and restaurants nearby, even offering to make bookings if we needed.
Cristal House itself is well appointed, airy and tastefully decorated with heating and air conditioning although we didn’t need to use either during our stay. The kitchen is roomy and has the equipment needed to cook a reasonably scoped meal, which we did on a number of occasions. The gas hob, oven and microwave all work well as does the fridge which has a small freezer above. Kitchen towel is provided in the starter pack that Roberto thoughtfully provides along with oils, vinegars, seasonings, plus bread, jam and cakes and a bottle of good wine.
The lounge has a nice-sized table and comfy chairs with two sofas and a coffee table, plus terrestrial TV, mostly in Italian. A nice touch is the wooden flooring as opposed to the usual stone tiles or terrazzo which can be cold to the feet.
There are three bedrooms; two at one end of the property overlooking the road which share a common shower room and one bedroom at the other end of the property, overlooking the internal courtyard, which has its own shower room, en-suite. There is plenty of wardrobe and storage space in all three bedrooms. The showers work well, although it does take a little time for the warm water to arrive at the common shower room, due to the distance away from the boiler. Plenty of nice towels are provided and spares are available in the cupboards if needed. The beds are large and comfortable and additional pillows and blankets are available if required in the wardrobes and cupboards. For light sleepers it may be better to choose the bedroom overlooking the courtyard as there is a refuse collection in the road around 6am most mornings – though this doesn’t last long and overall the property is very quiet – particularly for a city apartment. All of the windows have shutters that work and are useful for keeping the light out on sunny mornings, if you wish to lie in!
The internet service in the apartment is good with reasonable ADSL speed and there are no restrictions on data volume or time. VOIP services such as Skype and Whatsapp work well. Roberto will help you to log in to the router. We found mobile phone reception in the apartment good, but this will depend on your network operator. Roberto provides some electrical adaptors that suit most types of plug and an extension lead and these are useful as not all the wall sockets are of the standard Schuko European type, but are the Italian standard style of three in-line pins.
The apartment is on the 5th floor. A lift is provided, which although rather small and sudden in operation, is reliable and is equipped with modern internal safety doors. For the more hardy, the staircase wraps around the lift shaft. It should be possible to get most wheelchairs in the lift and there is level access throughout the building and apartment.
For those who wish to self-cater as opposed to eating out, there are a number of supermarkets close to the apartment as well as a market selling a huge range of fresh products, vegetables, meat and fish as well as other goods. There is a really good Carrefour market underneath one of the shops, easily reached from the main shopping street, but you will need to look for this one, as it is not shown on Google maps. Other good supermarkets tried are the PAM Local, Castroni and Punto Simply – all within 10 minutes walk. Castroni being particularly good for high quality coffee, tea, oils and balsamic vinegar!
For eating out close to the apartment, we tried the restaurant Ragno D’Oro, on Via Sila, which is only 5 minutes walk away. In common with many restaurants, food is served until 11pm. We found the food here excellent with a good mix of pasta, meat and fish dishes, all beautifully prepared and well presented. They are sensitive to food allergy requests. Particularly worthy of mention was the fish dish Brill with roasted potatoes, which is a dish for two due to the size of the fish, but very tender and tasty. The house red wine is particularly nice and very drinkable!
The apartment is very well situated for most of the attractions in Rome and although Roberto advised us to purchase 7-day city travel passes for our holiday (€29 each, which includes metro, bus and tram), we found we could walk almost everywhere we needed in the city. This included such attractions as the Coliseum, Palatine and Forum, Spanish Steps and Pantheon, Our advice is that if you are used to walking and have a relaxed timetable, you probably don’t need the pass. If you don’t fancy the walking, the metro station is only 10 minutes walk away. The Vatican is particularly close to the apartment – about 15 minutes walk – which is very convenient if you wish to get up early and be near the front of the queue – but take Roberto’s advice on this.
Overall we had an excellent stay and would not hesitate to recommend this apartment and Roberto as a great host.
Roberto was a wonderful host! He kept in touch as our travel plans changed, and was quick to help make it work for us. Everything is provided, and Roberto was quick to respond to questions and concerns. Elevator is great, a snug fit for 4 without luggage!
The apartment is very spacious, clean and comfortable. The en-suite bath is located in the smallest of the bedrooms, which was fine for us. There are fantastic restaurants around the neighborhood and the metro stop is a short walk. The Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica are a short walk away as well. The area is lovely, we had a wonderful stay. Thank you Roberto!
My family and I have just returned from a fabulous break in Rome. This accommodation provided all we could need for our stay together with being in an ideal location only being a short walk to the Vatican and about a 20 min walk to main City Centre. Good bus and metro to all other places.
Great apartment with lots of space, good A/C in each room and clean! Great location makes it easy to the Metro, restaurants, shops. Calm and safe neighbourhood too! And what to say about Roberto, he is a wonderful host always happy to help and give some good advise to how to visit Rome. Thank you Roberto!
