“Just perfect for a great little break”
Reviewed 11 March 2014

Marco and Helena are excellent hosts, generous, helpful, informative and entertaining. The suites are an easy journey from Fiumicino airport so you're off to a good start and although the immediate area feels a bit suburban, the excellent tram service practically outside the door speeds you into beautiful Trastevere for great cafes, restaurants bars and people watching, or a couple more stops into the heart of historic Rome. Coming back for a quick break from sightseeing is easy and what a treat to find fabulous home made cakes cooked by Marco's grandmother left on the table with tea, coffee or fruit for you to help yourself and recharge the batteries .... Small thing but one that makes you feel right at home, and it's very peaceful at the end of a busy day. Can't think why you would want to stay anywhere else in Rome, heartily recommend this lovely B&B.

Great place! We stayed for 4 nights during our visit in Rome. Beautiful, large, clean rooms, and comfortable beds. Breakfast is good; quality espresso, rolls, sandwiches, juice. Great people! Awesome place to base your trip to Rome.

There are many reviews here that confirm what a nice stay one will have at this property and how friendly and helpful Marco and Helena are. Thanks to those reviews, we chose this place, and we weren't disappointed. Please read them for happy accolades, since there is nothing I can say in that regard that hasn't already been gushed about in other reviews.

I think I can help with three reasons why you might want to stay in Trastevere. First, despite many articles and reviews on the internet about how Rome is a walking city, this is only true to a certain extant. There are sections of the city where you can walk around and see several tourist sites in a day, but it's not as if you'll be walking from the your hotel near the Coliseum to Vatican City. So, where is the most convenient place? While clearly that depends on your plans, if you intend to see as much of the city as possible and have several days, it's a good idea to be centrally located. Trastevere is south of the Tiber, but you won't feel it staying here, because the tram 8 runs up and into the city, with 8 stops to Campidoglio. Along the way, there are stops that bring you to the sights in Trastevere itself, the Jewish quarter, the neighborhoods of Campo Fiore, Piazza Navona, and the Pantheon, and finally to Campidoglio. There are also transfers to buses, etc. that your hosts are happy to tell you about.

Second, we walked throughout the tourist heavy parts of the city, and they were unbearably crowded even off season (winter). We really couldn't imagine staying there among the teeming hordes and were always happy to get back to our quiet place. The food is far worse and more expensive in those areas, and the Romans working in those parts may be jaded from the bustle, because they were definitely less friendly than in other places. Third, some say Trastevere is the real Rome, whatever that may mean (I think it means it's the Rome of today where regular people live and work). It still looks like the big city with all of the attendant grime and such, but it feels safe to walk around, and the public transportation options are cheap compared to taxis and tour buses that also cannot bring you that close to the Trevi Fountain and Spanish steps anyway, due to the small streets.

Of course, there are also reasons to stay in other places, but you can find those in the reviews of hotels in those neighborhoods.

Here are some instructions to help you navigate to this property, especially if you are arriving at night as we were (once you get there, Marco and Helena will help you with directions everywhere else!). Take the FR1 train from Fiumicino, and it will cost you 8 euros. At the Trastevere station, exit and walk straight across the parking lot. The street directly in front of you (not the busy one crossing you) is Trastevere. Stay on the left hand side and walk past the stone wall. After that, you will see an apartment building in a corner niche; the first floor houses dressmaker or bridal shop and has picture windows (when we were there, the display was of wedding dresses). Buzz the B&B to get in and take the elevator to the 3rd floor (Marco will tell you this, but we couldn't hear the speaker well and had to guess).

Bonus tip for the Vatican: Bus 64 does not go to the museum side, as we were told. It stops near the basilica, and the walk to the museum is very far. Bus 64 does stop closer to the basilica than the FR3 train, but the train is a tad bit cheaper, only takes between 4 and 6 minutes, and runs 1 minute (really!) or 14 minutes apart. The ones 1 minute apart are slightly different in that one stops at an intermediate station called Quattro Venti. The other goes directly to Roma S. Pietro (checking Trenitalia, you must type it in this way to find it).

Bonus bonus tip for the airport: If you have an early flight, know that the FR1 train to the airport only starts running at 5:21. This isn't nearly early enough for many morning flights, knowing that you are asked to be at the airport 3 hours in advance. If you have Marco book a driver, it will cost you 70 euros. That's crazy expensive for a single person, but not quite as painfully bad if you have a group of four that would cost 32 total on the FR1 train during regular hours. You could also take a cab, but before 7 am, it costs 60 euros anyway. If you go with the driver, which is possibly a more secure and reliable option, you'll need to put cash aside, as he doesn't take cards.

Room Tip: The room near the breakfast room is a little noisy sometimes. Ask for one further down the hall.

We stayed here in feb 2014 for 4 nights. The hosts Marco and Helena were extremely friendly and helpful and interesting. Our room was beautifully decorated and clean and our bed was so comfortable. It was so nice to be able to get food and drinks from the open all day and night kitchen/dining area. The suites are a stones throw from the no. 8 tram which goes every 5-7 mins to Rome centre. It is a great position to explore just everything yet see how the Romans today live. great restaurants and bars close by that are much cheaper than in the tourist areas.Anyone with a sense of adventure will love this place to stay.

Marco, Christina, Helena are wonderful host/hostesses. The apartment was clean, the food was good and the host/hotesses were so very nice! The location was excellent, just a short walk to Travestevere Station or to the Number 8 tram to Piazza Venencia and all the sites. Do not miss a great local restaurant called the New Station. Just a 2 minute walk from the B& B and the food was excellent. Marco is very helpful with directions and he is just fun to be around. If you are lucky, you may also get a visit from the Norweigans!!!!!!! I will return to this B&B and I nwill recommend it to everyone.

Room Tip: All rooms are nice!

Had a very enjoyable stay and was very well looked after by Marco and Helena from the time we arrived till we left. Certainly hope to return in due course. Very close to both the train\ tram station and with a tram stop just across the road, only a few minutes and you are close to the city centre. Room was clean and comfortable and Helena looked after us well at breakfast time. Having access to the kitchen facilities throughout the day was great too. As mentioned by other reviewers, Marco was very good at giving us information as to trams etc. and keen to help out on any questions we had. Can't go wrong booking a few nights in my opinion.
