“Great location and recommendations”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 May 2013

Very small hostel/hotel. Only about 4 rooms, but this added to its charm. A very small breakfast was provided. The owner gave us good recommendations. The bed was a bit uncomfortable and the walls very thin, but we enjoyed our stay and loved the location close to the coliseum.

Wow. I absolutely loved this place, Francesca was quite honestly one of the kindest people I have meet. From the map with super recommendations, the help with our case and of course an added treat!! Would I stay here again... Yes! The hotel has just 4 rooms, and a small kitchenette where you can make something if you wish (for me it provide tea and biscuits every morning, perfect!) it's just over a 5min walk to the colosseum and the same to the metro line. Termini station is also walkable (10 mins). All in all this place is great, rooms are basic but clean, spacious and well equipped. I challenge anyone to find better value in Rome. A city known for being notoriously overpriced, ape Latina provides an excellent base from which to explore the city at an excellent price.

Thank you Francesca.

I highly recommend Ape Latina. OK-here is what you really need to know: Ape Latina is like renting an apartment. It is not the hostel experience where you can really meet people, and not the hotel experience either. It is great for having a comfortable room and using it as home base to see Rome. The location is excellent. It is in a safe, quiet neighborhood quite close to the Colosseum. The Metro is close, & there are several restaurants, bars (Fiddlers Elbow is good Irish Bar) and supermarkets close by. One restaurant at the corner (literally 20 meters away) had a basic 3 course meal for 9 Euros. If you buy food, there is a fridge behind the reception desk you can use (along with a microwave, plates, cups and utensils). There was fresh fruit, coffee and tea provided throughout the day.

To see the sites - no problem. For those of you who are walkers-you can be in San Lorenzo in 15-20min, & central tourist area (Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps) in about 20-30min, but the walk is through nice areas & well worth it. There is also a bike rental place 5 minutes away that offers bike tours (which are a great way to see the city).

I was with a friend, so our room was with 2 twin beds, cold AC (which is much needed in the summer), & a small bathroom. Everything was clean and it is hard to complain about anything. OK - one thing - for our bathroom, if you are tall it is not easy to sit on the toilet. Francesca runs the show, and she is open, has a warm smile and ready to answer your questions.

I had origianally booked into another B&B (Sam Rooms) but was contacted before we set off to say they were over booked and they had booked us in to Ape Latina instead. Checked on Tripadvisor and it all looked fine although I did think the room photos showed the place to be very basic. When we arrived at the address it didn't look promising there were multiple dwellings in the large apartment block, but we rang the marked bell and within a few minutes Francesca arrived with the keys. She was amazingly friendly, booked us in quickly and gave us loads of really helpful advice about local restaurants, events in the city etc.
Our Room was lovely, a double en-suite, freshly decorated and spotlessly clean - I have stayed in many decent hotels which were no better. From what we could see there are only 4 rooms, so it is pretty quiet from the other guests and there was no road noise whatsoever. (our room was well set back looking into a small inner courtyard). The Kitchen is basic but quite adequate, microwave, kettle, fridge and sink, but there are biscuits, cake, fresh fruit as well as a selection of teas and coffee. 5 minute walk to the train station, 5 minutes through the park to the Coliseum. I don't think it would be possible to do better for the price. One piece of advice is that they do need to update their photos because they do not do justice to the rooms.

This is a clean and friendly place to stay - a couple of minutes walk to 'the Colloseum and possible to walk to all the major sites from the apartment. The hosts are very friendly and helpful with travel tips...they put out fruit, coffee, cookies etc, very nice! Not much to the room (for example, our room didn't have a view), but its clean and central and you don't need anything more.

Room Tip: Remember to advice of your time of arrival

The hostel is about a 10 minute walk from Roma Termini, which is great. Do bear in mind that because the roads are made of cobblestone, dragging your luggage can be a bit of a strain on the wheels. The nearest metro station is about 3 minutes away but really there is no need to take the metro unless you are heading to the Vatican. The main attractions are all within walking distance. For example, the Colosseum is a 10 minute walk away. Walking back to the hostel is harder though, since it's uphill. However, it's still very manageable.

We got the 3 bedroom ensuite which was neat, clean and really what you pay for. There were towels and soap provided. There was also a TV in the room but we didn't use it very much because just about all the channels were iitalian.

Francesca has got to be one of the best hosts I've met. She was very welcoming and provided us with information on Rome. It was great that she was able to warn us of tourist traps and recommended a few great restaurants which Italians frequent. As we were taking the overnight train to Venice, Francesca allowed us to stay in our rooms until 8pm for no charge.

All in all a great place to stay if you are looking for budget accommodation in Rome but be prepared to do some walking.

To find this place was pure coincidence as we booked it off a whim, and the great reviews.
An incredible find and literally made our stay at Rome. If you've found this place and there's availability, book it. We wouldn't have discovered the "real" Rome otherwise. Travelling as two young girls, safety and advice are key. We were met with Andrea, the owner, and Francesca, who advised us of the best places to go and see, shop, eat and explore.

The room we stayed in was large and clean equipped with Wifi and our own bathroom which, for the price, is stupidly cheap compared to the horrible hostels we had come from the night before. You receive your own keys to both this apartment and your room with a shared kitchen. The building is exquisite and down the road, a 5 min walk, from the Colosseum. In terms of the area, it feels like a safe area, which is priceless when you've stayed in some other shady Rome areas, and also walking distance from the main Termini station.

Location, Facilities, Hospitality, Comfort, Safety is all accounted for. You are not going to find a better place in Rome to stay. Perfect for friends, families and couples. Could not speak more highly of this B&B. Highly recommended and I make sure anyone I know going to Rome stays with Andrea.
