“Roman-tic Perfection”
Reviewed 17 October 2013

What a fabulous place the Villa Duse is! I was treated to a surprise weekend break here, by my now fiancé as he chose Rome as the perfect place to pop the question! From the moment we arrived at the Villa we could not have been more impressed!
First, my OH had sorted for the hotel to pre-book a Mercedes limousine to collect us from the airport. A definite wow factor, as the driver went right through the centre of Rome pointing out places of interest to start our break off properly.
On arrival at the Villa, the staff were delightful and led us to our magnificent room....impressively furnished in luxurious Italian style, with plush fabrics, the hugest of beds, and antique style furnishings...not to mention a cheeky bottle of red waiting for us! Superb. Every aspect of the room and its bathroom was as if it was from a designer magazine! Stunning. And as well as the visual impact....the bed was an absolute dream...and the shower was a blast!
The hotel is well placed for being away from the busy centre of Rome but with easy access by public transport. The bus stop (number 360 - took you to main metro station for underground hops round city) was literally just turn right out of the gate turn left at junction, then 200 yds and main stopping point was there. Ask at hotel desk for help. Also you can purchase a day pass for public transport in and around the city, from the hotel desk for next to nothing...makes life very easy. Make sure you chat to the helpful staff on the desk of the hotel....they will explain how everything works.
Breakfast at the hotel was continental buffet style....but what a varied choice! Salamis, meats, cereals, pastries, cakes, fruit, crusty bread, jams, eggs....yummmmeeeeeee!!!
I can't recommend this place highly enough....we had the best service, and the best villa to complete the best weekend ever. Thank you, Cupid, for finding us the Hotel Villa Duse ❤

This Hotel was perfect for our 3 days in Rome. It is a bit out of town to the north of the city in a residential area, very quiet hotel in a very busy city. We were greeted on our arrival by the lovely Eleanora who gave us great information from what buses, trams to get to where to eat. It really helped. The room was beautiful, the breakfast was great. We walked back from the city centre through the Borghese park a few times in the evening and never felt unsafe (apart from crossing the roads) on occasion we got the 360 bus which goes from termini to more or less outside the hotel. the trams go from the park into town or to the vatican as well. We really had no complaints and lots of positives for Villa Duse.

This hotel is a little gem. It is in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood away from the noise, dirt and crowds of downtown, yet very accessible by bus or tram. Our room was an oasis after a busy day being tourists and everyone at Hotel Villa Duse did everything possible to make us feel at home. Great variety of options on the breakfast buffet; the home baked goods are not to be missed. Grazie mille :)

Our stay here was slightly disappointing in light of the wonderful reviews it has received.

We were really impressed with the service we received during our stay - the staff were very helpful.

In terms of location, we enjoyed staying out of the city centre. We walked through the park to get to the tourist centres once, but it was a bit hot during September so caught the bus the rest of the time - this was okay, but quite uncomfortable (no air conditioning and no seats), so might not suit some travellers.

There is a great stretch of restaurants a 15 minute walk from the hotel so that was very convenient.

The room was comfortable and a reasonable size (we had one of the garden rooms).

However, it wasn't as clean as I would have liked - there was quite a bit of mould in the shower, and the floors needed to be mopped. There was also some minor damage to the walls, etc.

Breakfast had a great range for people who like sweet food, but there weren't many savoury or warm options.

While there were no real major issues, I didn't feel that this was great value for money compared to other options I had considered in Rome.

The staff was very helpful and the rooms were very spacious. It was far enough out of city center that you could still commute and not feel out of the way. Nice location and great atmosphere. Very clean. We would stay here again.

We stayed here for two nights and were very pleased with our choice. It's in a smart neighbourhood with restaurants and shops close by and a lovely walk through villa Borghese park that brings you out to the top of the Spanish steps for days out exploring Rome. It was lovely to come back to the calm smart hotel in the leafy neighbourhood. We were really glad we didn't choose to stay in the centre.

Our room was nicely decorated and very clean and comfortable but very dark. No window just doors opening onto a small private patio. The bathroom was large and very clean. Breakfast was good, enough choice. Reception staff were really great. Welcoming ,helpful and efficient.
I would stay here again and would definitely recommend it.

Stayed here in May 2013 and was rather disappointed when we compare wth our "normal" hotel in Rome, Napoleon (see separate review).
We stayed in the junior suite. Pro: Good size, only room at this floor, large balcony. Con: balcony was not cleaned on two of three days, When you left the room all electricity was turned off meaning that you could not chrage your Ipad etc. while you were away.
Breakfast: Pro: Good coffee. Con: Breakfast room situated in the cellar so no windows. Staff was not present in the room but come "on and off" meaning that you could wait up to 10 minutes for a cup of coffee. The choice of bread and cold cut was rather limited.
Also one morning we were looking for the staff at the reception as our key card was not working - no one there and we could not find anyone elsewhere. Result - we waited for 10 - 15 minutes to go into our room.
At last - be aware of the distance to the city center. As other says there is only one bus in the area and walking to f.e. Piazza del Popolo take app. 40 minutes!
So - no we would not return to this hotel.
