We loved this little restaurant! The staff are extremely friendly and the food delicious! We spent € 60 on 2 starters, 2 mains, a dessert and a bottle of wine, good price for the grey quality of food.

I think the really nice thing about this little restaurant is the fact that they don't play music, in other restaurants around we have found that the music is played too loud to have a nice and relaxed meal.

We'll be back here, next time we're in Rome

Thank Ellen B

First night in Rome, found this little restaurant which we thought will having typical local food. It turns to be a great first night dinner. Good starter with Bruschetta, my wife ordered Pasta Amatriciana, and I ordered the ox (beef??) tail with tomato sauce which was recomended by the waitress. All good.. Ah, forget one thing. The waitress was also put bread (we didn't order it) on the table which we didn't touch.. Asked for the bill, all good and reasonable but turns out the bread was included in the bill :)

This family owned restaurant (founded in 1907) has the most amazing atmosphere. The paintings on the walls tell the story of a young painter coming to Rome without any Lire in his pockets. The founder of Al Gran Sasso invited the young painter to dine at his Trattoria for the prize of decorating the walls. He painted scenes of the Roman everyday life. Splendid!
Mamma is still working here together with her two sons. She cooks a Tiramisu which is probably the best in town!? Pasta dishes are cooked to absolute perfection and you never get ingredients that are out of season. I think that this is the best typical Roman kitchen I have ever tried.
The location seems a bit humble even if the Trattoria is situated very close to Piazza del Popolo, The Spanish Stairs and the most posh shopping area in Rome prizes are extremely good! Don’t miss any opportunity to visit this historic Trattoria!

Traditional Roman food experience.
This was highly recommended by the owner of the apartment we were staying at.
Trattoria Al Gran Sasso made our first dinner experience in Rome memorable.
The servers are very friendly and hospitable.

We ordered: Total 87 Euro
Prosciutto with Mozzarella Bufala
Porcini Mushroom with Eggplant (Our favorite)
Pan fried Veal
Potaotes
Mixed Vegetables
1 Bottle of Chardonnay
1 Bottle Aqua Nappa Naturale
Tiramisu

Divine!

This place is small and intimate. To get there from Piazza del Popolo, just walk towards Via Ripetta! So close.

Experience is priceless.

This little restaurant was right opposite the hotel we stayed , we tried their food along some other restaurants on the street. We just loved their minestrone and chestnut soups. We are vegetarians and the food selection was amazing. We were in Rome for 5 days and had dinner here for the entire duration. Great little place!
